Description: Restored carefully with respect for tradition and heritage, la 'Table Madada' is a former warehouse where the Jewish traders, "the 'kings traders", stored carob. This fruit of the carob tree, a tree in the legume family which grows in the region of Essaouira, was then exported via the port towards Europe. The seeds of the carob have a strangely regular weight, which gave the name to the unit of measure 'carat'. Its seeds but also the sap of carob tree, is nowadays used in the form of a stabilizer found in sweets and ice cream. Originally a sub-Saharan slave at the service of privileged families, the dada in time became a cook, nanny and confidante. Loved and feared at the same time, she represented the guard of the home and passed on her traditional cuisine. Some of these dadas became famous for having a particular dish.

Nice restaurant in the medina of Essaouira, with a cosy atmosphere, live music, excellent food and service and very fair prices. Delicious lobster salads and well made grilled bream. Highly recommended.

We have recently spent 5 nights in Essaouira and La Table was one of the restaurants recommended by the owners in our Riad. Everything about the restaurant was perfect ... the food (especially the monkfish & pear tajine), the wine, the ambience, the staff and also the live music all combine to make our visits very memorable.

What to say... everything perfect here design, service, food, drinks, company and whatnot

Had the oysters gratin from Dahklia(?), then a crab gratin and lamb tajine for Azra accompanied by a small green salad. Wine: Ferme Rouge slightly chilled
A chocolatey dessert, forgot the name ( the wine was working on my brain cells) and two cognacs at the bar where we enjoyed the musicians.
We stumbled home to our Riad happy as larks

A beautiful restaurant in a great location serving excellent French food using the best local ingredients. Value is unbelievable though it is expensive by some local, far lower, standards. Should be number 1, compares unbelievably favourably to Elizir that rates number 2

La Table is owned by the Madada Mogador Hotel. It sports a laidback staff, a very pleasant environment with a unique menu of fresh seafood & steak. I had an octopus starter & steak & my wife had Iberico ham & a spiny crab dish. Mine was great but the crab was a little mushier than expected & the ham was a little on the too-thick-cut side of things as far as smoked ham goes. I know fussy, fussy. Very good overall & a great change from the tourist-packed haunts around town in both food quality & ambiance. A very nice evening. Recommended.
