“Beautiful hotel in Essaouira”

This must be one of the best places to stay in Essaouria. It overlooks the sea, you can watch the sunset from the rooftop terrace, it's within walking distance of the heart of the town, yet quiet and very relaxed. The rooms are simple but sylish, with lots of local artwork on the walls, and the staff are extremely welcoming and make you feel at home. It's amazing value for money - I'd highly recommend it.

I have never been to such an interesting hotel, the rooms are small but that's where the negatives end. The room overlooked the sea and the sound of the waves was just wonderful, if it is too noisy you can always close the window! The breakfast was lovely, some fruit in a bowl, fresh orange juice, rolls, butter, jam and coffee. It really was the most an experience. Would love to go back. You can ask for breakfast on the terrace we didn't know this and wish we had.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7 which is on the top floor and the view and the sound of the waves was wonderful

Dar al Bahar is the best option for staying in Essaouira, it is in a great location within easy walking distance of the main souk and other attractions in the city. Clean, comfortable, quiet and simple. We stayed in a double room with a sea view, it was very relaxing to fall asleep with the window open, listening to the sound of the waves. The view from the rooftop terrace was simply amazing, taking our breakfast there in the morning was a very memorable experience. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Immediately after making my reservation online, I received an email from the hotel confirming my reservation and informing me my credit card would not be charged as the hotel only accepts cash when checking out. This was a great heads up, and was the first time I have ever had any hotel in the MENA region follow up prior to checking in.
I will definitely stay there again on my next trip to Essaouira.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a room with a sea view, it is completely worth it.

we had a great room with a sea view, the staff were really friendly and very accommodating, the breakfasts were really great and i looked forward to them every morning! the hot water was the only thing that was a little variable, but it was so hot outside this did not really bother me. a great way to spend a relaxing week of our honeymoon after the mania of Marrakesh.

Room Tip: the sea view made it for us!

This hotel had a very relaxed atmosphere. We were made to feel very very welcome. The pretty rooms are very tasteful - we stayed in a double room without a sea view. It was spotless and cosy. Basic and a little small but very reasonable for the price. Breakfast a little bland - bread and pancakes, but served by the lovely staff on the roof terrace which beholds stunning views. The windy city means that shutters and window frames rattle relentlessly - bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view with the extra bed for the room.

We were quite surprised with this Dar. After staying in some terrible places in other parts of Morocco, our expectations were very low. We were pleasantly surprised to find the room comfortable and it was easy to get around the Medina from this place. The breakfast was lacking, but adequate. We did not eat dinner there, but they were one of the rare places that served wine.

I stayed in one of the double bedrooms here for 2 nights, we did not book in advance because June is a less busy time of year in Essaouira. We were greeted warmly on arrival and everyone there is friendly though prehaps less so than the other riads we stayed at. The seaview room was out of our budget but as the hotel was empty we asked if we could be upgraded to a seaview room which was never a problem at any other hotel, however we were told this was not possible which I thought a little mean considering it is not a cheap hotel. Our room was well decorated, although the bed sheets could have been better (the duvet had no duvet cover). On a final note the roof terrace was fantastic with a beautiful view and a wonderful place to have breakfast.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Dar Al Bahar is certainly the name it deserves: the house by the sea.Built on the ramparts of the city of Essaouira in the "San Dion" area, she faces the ocean and its trade winds. From the terrace the view is one of constant movement, winds breaking against the rocks of the coast, offering an amazing spectacle. From there, you can also enjoy the panoramic view over the medina with its northern fort of the ancient Scala and the Mellah (the former Jewish quarter). In the distance, you can see the sand dunes, which actually touch the northern outskirts of the city. Jean-Claude and Lise, a french-dutch couple, have completely renovated this house which was built at the turn of the last century. At that time, this part of Essaouira was much more animated thanks to the presence of an authentic windmill which formerly provided flour for the city and the back country. At this place, a new hotel has been built but the street name remained: Touahen, which means ‘mill’ in Arabic.Today, the peacefulness of this place is only disturbed by breaking waves and shrieking seagulls.During October 13-17, 2012, the town of Essaouira witnessed the filming of parts of the third season of "Game of Thrones", the popular medieval fantasy series. On October 15, some of the scenes were filmed on our street and near Dar Al Bahar, both almost magically transformed in a medieval set by the crafty crew, some of them also being our guests in the hotel. For the current and future fans of the series, we share some of our photos of the stars, extras and set, and, for those wishing to experience the "Game of Thrones" atmosphere, we look forward to having them of our guests. You will certainly have a pleasant stay in Dar Al Bahar ! ... more   less
