“Interesting but not much to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2014

Interesting to see the essence of Essaouira and a way of life for a lot of people living in the area. Amazing to see so many fishing boats and so many people in the fish market, it is essentially just tables and tables of the same fish though, so it doesn't take long to lose interest. Good opportunity for some photos and we thought it was amazing that every single boat was the same colour blue...no idea if its just the only one available or if it has some bigger significance.

“Bewitching!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

Fabulous friendly and lively but without the mania of Marrakech. Everyone has time for chats and tea. Thanks to HSAM most of the street cats and dogs are in good condition and are a picturesque part if the scenery.

“no hassle but lots of character”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

This is much nicer than the medina at Marrakech, atmospheric but more relaxed, and with shops mixed in with the souk stalls, e.g. a good bookshop with books in English and French, a good pharmacy, varied cafés and restaurants, including 2 in the main square which are not the expensive tourist ones but where the locals go - a small one in the southeast corner where we had excellent mint tea for 7 dirhams, and a larger one on the north side where we had excellent café auf lait for 8 dirhams, both absolute bargains and perfect for watching the world go by, out of the wind!

“Our revisit did not disappoint”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014

Some places change for the worse others keep their charm. Essaouira does that well. The art scene has actually got even better with some really decent galleries. Visit, enjoy the scene. Bargain for goods, the traders are NOT aggressive in the way you might find in other cities. Bargain sensibly and remember that many artisanal goods would cost much much more from high end shops back in the UK. These people work for their money from tourists
