“Worth a visit, more European feel than Marrakech”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Great experience, very calm and laid back compared to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. Great walls, souk and lovely barbequed fish near the port

“Compact”

Great stalls everywhere, not too much hassling, just smile and be friendly, very safe and easy to navigate around. Take lots of change as there are a lot of beggars who really need help.

“Very pleasant”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

This medina is small so easy to navigate and explore. Quite touristy but no hassles which makes for pleasant shopping and browsing. There are some nice restaurants with very pleasant and friendly staff.

“I love Essaouira!”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

The only mistake you can make here, is to go on to Nice, France and spend 3 times what it costs to stay here by the sea. I was here for some days, and when I got to Nice I realized I should have stayed. Enough said?

“Souvenir Shopping in Essaouria”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

This was the third medina we visited on our trip to Morocco and we found this to be the cleanest, friendliest and cheapest of all the Medinas.

This was the one market where we didn't feel pressured to buy anything, we didn't feel harassed by people on the street and the streets and views at this Medina were incredible.

Interestingly enough, this is where we bought most of our souvenirs. We found the prices to be great, (no haggling required) and the merchandise we bought was unique and of good quality. We bought art work, ash trays, painted rocks (friendly haggle) and key chains.

The streets were clean, some stores were bright and more modern and the views on the outskirts of this medina are incredible.

Definitely worth a leisurely visit!

It is good to know that it is very windy in Essaouira, so wear something that stays in place when the wind blows. I happened to put on a loose, 3/4 length dress and ended up holding it down for the whole day. A short pant and linen top or t-shirt would have been a better choice for me. Live and learn!

I would highly recommend visiting this Medina and spending lots of time there. It is a beautiful place and offers great photo ops for photogs.
