The place we had planned to go for lunch was closed so ended up here as it was quite busy (got to be a good sign... Maybe not!). Our waiter was very friendly, however my Niçoise salad really was very bad. A tiny plate, piled up with bland salad, no dressing, no anchovies or egg, and a teaspoon of tuna on top of a hidden pile of rice underneath! Rice on a Niçoise salad? Very odd. Left still feeling hungry.

dont bother with this place as service and dried fried sardines awful. the staff seemed more interested in an adjacent cafe whilst you were trapped by "musicians" and "acrobats" with their 45 seconds of "entertainment" before trying to arm-wrestle you into payment.
shame, as i love essaouira. but there are many more places to sit quietly with yesterday's newspaper.

Points to consider here:

1) Great range of specialty teas - well prepared and presented
2) Limited choice for food but the pastilla (pigeon or chicken on the day we were there) was superb - the best I had the whole time I was in Morocco; large, sweet and tasty
3) Not the easiest to find - ask somebody before you set off and inevitably get lost
4) The restaurants in the square are all set close together and you could easily sit down in the wrong place here; there are only maybe 8 tables
5) Large selection of cats and flies in this square for some reason - hey, you're in Morocco and you have to expect this - nothing the restaurant can do
6) Friendly effective service
7) Given how public this is, there will be musicians, tumblers etc. all vying for your attention and money whilst you eat - cheap, fun entertainment
8) The juices tasted fresh - really good

This is a small cafe amongst others in a small, pleasant square just off the main souk. We ate here twice out of our four days in Essaouira. We had the seventy dihram (less than six pounds) breakfast which included: fresh juice, omelette/eggs, bread, crepes, local cheeses, fruit salad and (good) coffee or hot chocolate. Very clean and very high standard. Also very friendly and helpful staff.

The cuisine is excellent of taste and presentation. The service efficient, smiling, genuinely friendly. A super pleasant experience. And they serve the best ice cream in town ! But you have to hurry up as Bibi, the mastermind of the place and Jamal will not be there after April.
