“Must try a little harder”
Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

Riad malaika in itself is a nice place to stay, but the small things make it not worth the raving reviews I read. Rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, but on the other hand our room smelt a bit damp (they could use airco), the cold water tap wasn't working and the (very large!) bed was not entirely straight. In the morning you are woken up by the noise from the open kitchen downstairs. Staff is friendly. Also the windows are big enough to climb through, so couldn't leave them open during the day to let some air in. Wouldn't go again.

We selected Riad Malaika from Tripadvisor. Although people said good things about the riad, you never know until you get there. I am pleased to say that the experience was excellent from start to finish.
We had the junior suite, which I think is the only room in the riad with an outside view. The room suited us well with a bedroom, lounge, shower and separate toilet. The lounge has a fire place and two day beds so it makes a good family accommodation.
The room is advertised as having a terrace, which is a little misleading. The room adjoins a rooftop terrace that is for everyone in the hotel (i.e. not a private terrace). We had not special problems but the public terrace limits privacy at some times. A evening party on the terrace could be distracting.
You will not find nicer, more helpful people in Morocco than the staff at Riad Malaika. My wife is gluten intolerant. The cooks went out of their way to make special gluten-free breads and cakes for breakfast.
The riad serves dinner as well, if you ask in advance. The food is simple but well prepared and with nice touches.
Riad Malaika is located conveniently near the main square and harbour.Essaouira has loads of Riads; I am sure many are excellent. However, rest assured you will not be disappointed with the quality of this riad or the people that make excellent.

Room Tip: The junior suite has good natural light although it is located at the top of narrow, winding stairs

We spent 3 nights in Riad Malaika. I had chosen this riad based on the excellent reviews in tripadvisor. The room was beautiful and we were served delicious breakfast on the roof terrace. The Riad is located in a small, quiet alley, just a hundred yards both from the lively centre and the seashore. The interior design is stunning and tastefully decorated, clean and quiet.Great staff, lovely and extremely helpful.absolutely recommended!!!special thanks to the honor of the riad friendly french couple.

This is a small and beautifully appointed riad. Each room has lovely art work, a bathroom tiled in deep blue and patterned tiles, and is immaculately maintained. The breakfasts are lavish and delicious. Whether you stay at this riad or not, you should plan to eat dinner there - the tangines are in a class by themselves (you need to put in a dinner reservation by 4 in the afternoon). The people in charge of the hotel are extremely helpful, and made restaurant recommendations and set us up at (and actually walked us to) a hammam.

We spent two weeks in Morocco visiting the Imperial Cities, and Essaouria was our last stop. Riad Malaika made these final 3 days the icing for our cake. It's location in the centre of the medina is just right, it is easy to find your way back to, the staff are super friendly and helpful, the room we had was very comfortable and well furnished - we can highly recommend that if you are considering accommodation in Essaouria, give Malaika serious consideration. We booked 2 months ahead of our trip and every time we communicated with Sylvie and Piermark we got prompt replies with information we needed.

A very beautiful riad very close to the centre of the medina that made our stay in Essaouira a great experience. The roof terrace was very relaxing and the suite was ideal for our family of four. The staff could not have have been more friendly or helpful.

Room Tip: The junior suite was perfect for our family of four. One room with a double bed, a living room with...

A wonderful Riad in the centre of the medina, perfect location.
We could not have asked for more from them.
A lovely breakfast, an amazing roof terrace and friendly staff. The food smelt wonderful even though we did not eat here. The rooms were spacious and finished to a really good standard. The whole Riad was calm and tranquil.
I'd mentioned on booking that it was my husbands birthday whilst we were there (as well as us being on our honeymoon) and on the evening of his birthday he was presented with the most fantastic birthday cake with his name on top!!! A fantastic personal touch well above and beyond our expectations. Thank you so much for making his day all the more special!!
