“Lovely atmosphere”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

I was reluctant to go in as there was only one other couple when we arrived, but the French owner and Moroccan waiter gently encouraged us in... and it was so worth. It was our last night in Essaouira after 5 nights - and it was one of the best meals out. Wonderful atmosphere, even though it wasn't very busy that night: the courtyard is lovely with some quirky art, a fountain in the middle and cool jazz playing in the background. The food was exceptional and my tagine was the best I'd eaten. My wife really enjoyed the monk fish. Perhaps best of all, there was a local red wine at an excellent price - and that was lovely. All in all, very reasonably priced. Would love to go here again.

“Disappointing!”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We went for lunch having seen a positive review in the Rough Guide, and were disappointed. The tablecloths weren't very clean, and we were the only diners. We ordered a few things from the tapas menu, including some garlic prawns (didn't really taste of anything), saffron rice (ditto), and a couple of vegetable dips, which were fine. Food took a long time to come. We thought the waiter was quite unfriendly. At one point, they brought over a large fish dish that we definitely hadn't ordered, which was awkward. Just before we left, I could hear someone sneezing and coughing in the kitchen, which was a real turn off! All in all, a definite no.

“Gorgeous food”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

We have visited Essaouria many times and eaten in different places. We stumbled on Dar Loubane this year and are pleased we did. The food in Morocco can vary greatly, with some tagines lacking in flavour. The food here is excellent with a greater choice than in many The restaurants. We ate here four times, as a family of five, and there was something for all tastes. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is decorated in a very interesting way. We will certainly return!

“Great tapas!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Interesting environment eating in the middle of an open courtyard. We were ready for a break from tagine and really enjoyed the tapas for a change, but I also had a great fish tagine. Saturday night music had a mixed review from our teenage children. Sadly our daughter was suffering from too much sun so we had to leave early. We need special catering to avoid serious allergic reactions and our host in this restaurant was fantastic. He listened, understood and was really helpful. I would definitely go there again. It was also one of the few occasions that we seemed to be eating alongside locals.
