“Wireless a MAJOR problem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I'm going to start with my frustration with the wireless. It's the single worst WIFI we've experienced after almost 5 months of travel. Everyone there thought so. We absolutely rely on wifi to plan next destinations and communicate back home by blogging and e-mail. This place was SO FRUSTRATING, and it didn't help that the staff was taking up what little bandwidth there was with their own personal laptops and the computer there, which I suspect was also wireless. Fair warning: if you absolutely need to use wireless on this particular leg of your journey, I do NOT recommend staying here. Sorry guys but this absolutely ABSOLUTELY needs to be fixed. It's simply inexcusable in this day and age.

If you DON'T really care about wifi, well then this is the place! The guys at the front are so nice and helpful. They go out of their way to help you find good places, hammams, etc. They love to make you mint tea at any and all times, nor do they charge you for this. i can't speak high enough about how awesome, friendly and helpful the staff is.

Breakfast is basically bread, but very fresh and warm with 3 sides of jam and butter and comes with orange juice and coffee or tea. The hot water is somewhat sporadic, but the rooms are clean, well appointed and the place is in a near perfectly located spot in Ess...close to beach, close to port, close to souks but tucked in a quiet alleyway between the 2 main streets. The place has a communal lounge on the main floor and a great sunny rooftop patio on top. Lastly, it's very inexpensive to stay here and you definitely get a lot for the money.

In short, this is THE place to stay in Ess provided you can get over the utter lack of reliable wifi. Unfortunately, we couldn't.

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty good.

We stayed only one night at this very friendly run Riad.Location could not be more perfect-right in the heart of the charming Medina and close to the Supratour bus station and all important sights.Although the riad is located in one of the narrow streets, it is just off of the main one so easy to find after all. Moreover Essaouira's Medina is not very big so one can navigate through it without many problems.Very good value for money including a simple breakfast.Fact, there was no air condition in our room but you do not need it in October at ll.Staff was absolutely fantastic-very nice and helpful. Thanks guys for making our short stay unforgetable. We were recommended the Les 3 Portes restaurant just arround the corner and we ended up having meal there twice as the place was beautifully decorated, with special ambience and most important -delicoius food.

We had planned an overnight stay so we could have two days in Essaouira, but we found the town so pleasant and the staff and hotel so accommodating that we extended our stay by another night.

Centrally located, this is an excellent base to explore the town and environs; the staff are really friendly and it is amazingly quiet at night, (Ignoring the seagull chicks on the roof and crying baby of one of the other guests, cats yodelling and the ubiquitous call to prayer.... :-) ). We all enjoyed really good night’s sleep each night in well appointed simple and clean rooms.

This is a Riad which reflects real Morroco, excellent value for money, easy hospitality and a place you felt you came as guests and left as friends.

The fresh pure orange juice every morning was perfect as was the pancakes, French bread and preserves. My only gripe about breakfast would be the instant coffee which I can’t abide, but this was quickly replaced with Morrocan tea, which is a lovely way to start the day.

The roof terrace was also a great pace to relax any time of the day.

We checked out at 12 but were able to leave our luggage til we collected it later that day, after doing one more camel ride and one more restaurant... all in all well worth a stay.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs and no lift, so ask for lower rooms if you dont like climbing stairs!

The staff were really helpful. Do ask them about the showers etc as you can easily miss tricks to get hot water. Great location and its nice they have a bar and food at the Riad but they can also steer you to great restaurants. They pointed us to Caravane Cafe -totally worth a visit.

Room Tip: You can have them show you the rooms, if they a few to choose from, and pick one that suits you.

Riad Sidi Magdoul is a good value hotel, located in the centre of town. Our room was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is clean as well, included are towels, toilet paper and soap. The only unfortunate thing is that the shower gets cold after 2 minutes before it gets hot again, and so on. Furthermore, the staff is very friendly and there's a roof terrace to enjoy the sun. Breakfast is ok, with orange juice, coffee/tea, bread, pancakes and marmalade. Though it could be improved with some variation (an egg, honey, cheese or something like that). To conclude, we stayed for three days and really enjoyed this hotel. It has a great central location, in a lovely city, where you will feel welcome, just like us!

This is a great little guest house tucked away in an alleyway between two major shopping streets. The location was very useful for popping back to the room after making purchases.

the accommodation is simple, with a functional bathroom and basic continental breakfast. Evening live music sessions provided a funky bonus. I didn't eat dinner there, but i regret it as the meal across the road was disappointing.

Polekatlex Hello!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we thank you for having allowed testimony.
We take this letter to inform our readers and our guests that we have closed our alternative space "corner of the artists." It was an exciting project, through which many young musical talents of Essaouira were found, consistent with international visitors.
So there will be more music in the evening and the hotel will be reserved exclusively for guests.
We hope to see you soon (when you're in love with Essaouira it does not let you go ...).
We wish you a very nice holiday season and we will send our best wishes for happiness and success for 2012
Cordially.

One of the things we enjoyed about this hotel was the excellent pool of personnel, who were friendly and particularly helpful with all queries we had about the hotel itself, its surroundings and the city. Staff would be keen, for example, to help find shops and restaurants with the best deals or explain local customs and habits. It is also a good place to meet locals who, as well as the tourists, liked to gather in the courtyard for evening music, wifi and chats. The decor is simple but cosy in Moroccan style. Overal a safe, clean, fun and well located place with a good price-quality balance!

Hello!
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and we thank you for posting this notice.
There is nothing to add except, from me, to thank also the staff who were able to satisfy you and welcome you ... Thank you to them.
I take this letter to inform you, also our readers and our future guests, that we have closed our alternative space "Creative Corner." It was an exciting project, through which many young musical talents of Essaouira were found, in accordance with international visitors. But, as I explain in my response to Mr Kaplitsh, we had to close.
So there will be more music in the evening and the hotel will be reserved exclusively for guests.
We wish you a season of winter holiday very enjoyable and we will send our best wishes for happiness and success for 2012
