This ryad is a must stay! We booked for 3 nights and extended for another 3 as we absolutely loved it. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay and both were gorgeous, clean and comfortable with an elegant combination of moroccan and european styling. The bathrooms in particular are very stylish. The beds were comfy too and blankets were provided for the cooler winter nights, which we used. The common areas and internal balconies of the ryad are also very beautiful, giving the whole place a serene and stylish feel.

And yes, the home made breakfast is fantastic! It was different each day and we usually couldn't finish it! Although we tested the owner's theory that guests eat more when they dine on the rooftop terrace! The fresh fruit combinations served are fantastic and a welcome addition.

The location is great - close to one of the main shopping streets, one of the ramparts, many restaurants as well as the fishing port.

But what makes this Ryad an absolute gem are the owners, Lorraine and Didier. They are the perfect hosts and feel more like friends than staff. They run the ryad in a very calm and welcoming manner. Their assistance was fantastic, from restaurant and hammam recommendations, booking a hire car and cooking classes and even helping with a trip to the chemist to translate. Their service and willingness to help far surpassed our expectations. We wish them all the very best with the beautiful ryad which they are so fond and proud of - and rightly so! Congratulations Didier and Lorraine. We love your place.

As mentioned in another review, we look forward to watching this wonderful place climb higher in the Essaouira accommodation rankings.

Stayed beginning of March 2013. We would also like to state we are not affiliated with Ryad Lyon-Mogador in any way.

Loraine and Didier really make this place feel like home. They are welcoming, smiling and always there, often discreetly, to provide advice, mint tea, restaurant recommendations, extra towels..We chose this ryad for the roof top views which really are panoramic with sheltered corners and sun beds too.The rooms are immaculate, clean and the beds very comfy. We stayed in the Egyptian room with it's cocoonlike bath and lots of hot water. The entrance to Lyon Mogador is easy, on an open street (unlike some ryads, down dark alleyways) a 30 second walk off one of the main shopping streets. It is so quiet inside. Everyday Loraine prepared a different four course!! breakfast (including eggs, cereals and fruits) with goooood hot coffee and tea. Internet is available in reception.
A beautiful, peaceful place. Thank you

Room Tip: Ask for specifics as all the rooms are different. Some have baths, mostly showers, some with a table and chair, more windows etc.

What a disappointment. I have stayed in many Riads in Morocco from luxury to budget. After reading all the great reviews on trip advisor, I was looking so forward. It was downright disgusting. The sheets and cover were stained and smelly, there wasnt even a top sheet! Dusty, not cleaned basin, dusty hair dryer. The lights didnt work for some time either. The owner was also rude when we didnt like the room. Also smokes in the riad which is highly unprofessional.
Noisy street as well. I would highly advise you to look elsewhere. Even at a reasonable price, it was too much money for these unsanitary conditions. Don't be fooled by the photos which look a lot better than the real thing.

The guys at this riad give a very warm welcome, and helped us with anything we needed. Breakfast on the terrace was superb. This is a sure bet if you are looking for value for money, comfort, location, and very personal service.

Room Tip: The family suite is all the way upstairs, but easily fits four adults with space for a baby bed.

From the moment of arrival to departure this place is nothing short of outstanding! Didier and his wife own this place and live on the premises, they even serve the complimentary breakfast each morning themselves on the rooftop terrace. I was given a history and background of the city as well as attractions and getting around upon arrival. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is the best it can be and you are most comfortable. Hard to believe the breakfast served each morning is included, it was impeccable and the best I've had since staying in Morocco as well as best Ryad. Every city needs a Ryad Lyon Mogador, although I would probably never leave this country :). I can't wait to see this Gem climb the rankings of places to stay in Essaouira. Thank you Didier and Family, I will give nothing but the top recommendation for this place. Merci et Au Revoir!
