“Nice place to stay in Essaouira”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Very nice Riad in the heart of Essaouira.
We have been especially impressed by the very familiar atmosphere in this hotel and extremely friendly, caring and helpful staff.
The Riad is run by a friendly and well organized woman. With her you feel the real passion for hospitality.
The building has a light flooded inner courtyard, which is decorated very authentically. It gives you the feeling from 1001 nights.
The rooms are individually decorated and very clean, but maybe a bit small if you are traveling with a lot of luggage.
The price includes a nice breakfast, including tea/coffee, croissants, baguette with jam and cheese.
Summing up, Hotel Cap Sim is definitely recommendable for a stay in the Medina of Essaouira.

Friendly staff, basic accommodations at a very good price

My friend and I arrived in the middle of the week without reservations and got two single rooms at the front of the riad, on the street. Other rooms were filled (an extended family and several couples on vacation)—the tourist season is beginning to get underway.

The accommodations are basic. The rooms are colorful and the bed was firm and comfortable. The private bathroom consisted of a toilet, a tiny sink and a small shower (basically the corner of the tiled bathroom served as the “stall” with a simple curtain that pulled across) with a hand-held shower attachment connected to a faucet. There was plenty of hot water.

Sleeping proved to be a bit of a challenge due to intermittent street noise (people talking or walking by. There was no motorized noise) that lasted until almost 1 a.m. (on a week night) followed by the call to prayer from the nearby mosque at 5:50 a.m. This made for interrupted sleep for me though, admittedly, I am a light sleeper. Therefore I would recommend getting a room that is not street-side and using foam earplugs.

Breakfast was a hot drink, fresh squeezed orange juice, a pain au chocolat and a generous amount of sliced baguette accompanied by butter, jam, processed cheese and black olives. I was offered an egg as well but I don’t think that is standard. We asked for a second cup of coffee and were not charged extra.

The owner is a lovely, kind-hearted woman and the staff is very friendly and helpful and appreciative of their guests. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a simple place to stay. If you are looking for pampering and luxury go elsewhere.

Stayed here for two nights in a room facing the street. Very pleasant staff. Very nice, bright and sunny room, tiny vestibule with built-in wardrobe and a more than adequate bathroom. Comfy bed. This hotel is opposite a patisserie that seems to be open all hours and attracts rowdy clientèle until late at night.
A reasonable breakfast, unfortunately a second cup of coffee costs extra. Churlish!

This is a nice budget hotel ideally located in the medina within a minute of the ramparts, restaurants and the cafes on the square. The rooms are great value and though a little small they are clean and it is a delight to stay here. Nadia and the staff are friendly and ensure you enjoy your stay. Indeed i've stayed here several times over the past 10 years and have never had reason for complaint. There is a great patisserie across the street, and a roof terrace where you can relax and enjoy the view across the rooftops of the old town.

A convenient location in the medina and on a quiet street.
Large and comfortable entrance area where breakfast served. Our ensuite room on the first floor overlooked the street - an interesting outlook as there were a few small shops. The room was quite small but perfectly adequate and in a good state of decoration. Reception was helpful and staff friendly.
