“Only For Carnivores”

Do not be put off by this being part of a service station complex the food is really pretty good. Not sure I would drive 100 k just to eat here as many Casablancans do but if you are in El Jadida there are few places that offer as good a meat fix as here. On my most recent visit my friends and I shared a kilo of grilled meat and a one kilo tagine of kefta and eggs with delicious bread and soft drinks for just Dhr 400 including a tip. I have eaten better in Morocco but seldom this well so cheaply.
If you are traveling with young children the enclosed play area alone will make this a worthwhile place to visit!

“An institution”

People actually pop down the motorway from Casa to come here. It's part the Afriquia chain of petrol stations, which doesn't sound promising, I know. What the chain does is to have either a simple snack type place serving good fast food attached to some of its prestige stations or a proper restaurant. Most, if not all, of these latter are rather large and have facilities such as children's playgrounds and outside covered areas as well as a large dining hall/cafe. The one in El Jadida is the latter. Apparently the chain is the first in Morocco to have acquired an ISO 22 000 certificate via the auspices of the Commerce Ministry.

You can see into the kitchens from the outside eating area. They are spotlessly clean and produce good food. It's a relentlessly meaty menu, more or less - and it's worth ordering the meat dishes as they are really good. You order by the quarter kilo, minced meat kebabs, cutlets, meat kebabs and so on. Or there are tajines or mechoui. There are several types of traditional bread served too. Chips and salad have to be ordered separately as additions to the main meal.

It's great in the summer, when you can eat outside and watch the kids playing in the playground - and you can feed the sleek, fat cats that wander over every now and again. But no gristle or bones, mind you - these cats have this place sewn up. They want meat and they get it! In colder weather you eat inside, of course.

After the restaurant closes, the cafe remains open all night. There's also a Mini Brahim supermarket attached to each of these complexes selling both basic as well as rather posh imported items and cigarettes.

And guess what? For a good meal, you pay peanuts! Definitely worth a detour.
