based on reviews on tripadvisor , we chose this hotel and i must say we were most disappointed with the service..
although the hotel needs a revamp , we could deal with the current condition..VERY LIVABLE , BUT NEEDS THAT MODERN TOUCH
the staff were friendly , but NOT very helpful.
The rest of my group actually rated the service...' ' non- existent'..
The breakfast table was always short of cutlery , whether it was , cereal spoons or teaspoons, sometimes by the time the spoons arrived the tea was cold and getting someone to bring us some more tea was a mission,
we were promised a bottle of juice on arrival as we dont drink red wine , we asked 4 times and received the juice a day before we left, it was one of those that neede a knife or scissor to open , and we just didnt bother to ask as all our previous requests , were to no avail.
i looked forward to the 'origami animal with towels'..as i read and seen on trip advisor.. [ no such such luck...sadly..
one day we went without towels with delayed our shower for the day..
the second day , the empty bottle of shower gel , still laid in the shower cubicle , showing no sign of services rendered..[ much to our dismay)
the shuttle from the main hotel to the nirvana wing was a nightmare, we had to 'beg' for transport to main building ,
for a hotel that big , its a shame that theres only 2 or 3 shuttles servicing the needs of the guests..
the drinks are 'FLAT' and exorbitantly priced.
the spa area is beautiful , but treatment fair...[ balinese massage].
shells restaurants didnt cater for our needs ,as our requests werent available , but the chefs at cumin buffet , really went out of their way to satisfy us ,[ the one plus point]
we rounded off our stay with a lovely dinner at LA FAYA restaurant , a special request of prawn curry and grilled prawns were delectable, we asked to see the chef personally to thank him..
that was about the highlight of our stay there..
i hope the staff and management of le meridian takes this as constructive criticism and not as a platform to degrade your resort , which does have extreme potential.
but i have to admit some of the staff were friendly..
disappointing indeed....

Room Tip: choose sea facing... we didnt get these...

I stayed at the Nirvana suites. It was very peaceful and quiet. The sea was not to good - lots of coral so I settled for the swimming pools. The resturants and food was good. The fizzy drinks and water was exceptionally expensive. Overall I had a lovely weekend - the health spa was awesome.

Room Tip: If u need a very quiet area - go for the Nirvana suites. No children allowed and it is very restful.

I researched our stay at Le Meridien extensively as it was our first family holiday. The good and bad reviews are warranted. It is a yin/yang experience! Good food, great staff, old hotel.

I have to say we had an amazing holiday here. But there are some considerations for other travellers to note re the hotel.

The reception and bar are stunning, Balinese style, pretty views. Mauritian people, including the staff here, are generous and wonderfully kind people. They went out of their way to ensure we were happy. This meant our room needed a cot, microwave, kettle etc for our child (thank you Sachin in housekeeping). These needs were met.
I would go back for the delicious baby food prepared freshly every day and our unique requests (thank you Kunal and Kaminee for arranging every day). The meals were amazing.

The restaurants are good. Poolside Indian restaurant, Cumin is fantastic, delicious, although not always open depending on the number of diners. Thank you chef Sahijeed and Deepak for our divine meals for ourselves and our baby who got special Indian baby food freshly made! Shells for seafood is beautiful on the beach, but the special seafood is at an added cost, exhorbitant even. La Faya was odd. Billed as French fine dining... it is not, but at the foot of the ocean and with lovely staff like Nithin, it was a romantic, pretty setting for dinner. The food is 80s chic.

The buffet and breakfast area at 180 was good... always something good on offer and the themed evenings were fun. We loved the desserts! Breakfasts, esp the fresh South Indian idli, puri etc were wonderful. Leely was a friendly host. There are birds which visited which were cute, but then a bit over friendly, hopping onto tables and into cups and saucers.

The hotel itself is not 4-star, more 3,5+ star but there is no official rating in Mauritius so they rate themselves apparently. The bathroom needs refurbishment and the furniture too. The shaving mirror fell out of the wall and sink was cracked! There was also water damage on the roof and walls. The shower was new though. It was also very clean thanks to Yosina our housekeeper.

While it was roomy and comfortable, the suite felt a bit run down for a luxury stay. The view was lovely, and all rooms have a sea-view.

Perhaps the most important is that Le Meridien is not in the best location. It is extremely far north, which is the opposite end of the island from the airport, not ideal to travel in heat for an hour and 15 mins. Also, there is also nothing nearby – no shops, restaurants for anyone on half board who wanted to eat out or do a quick visit. The remote location means taxi fares start at R1000 for a 15km trip to the tourist town, Grand Baie, from Le Meridien. That is excessive at any rate. You pay R75 for a beer and R200 for a margharita pizza. So without outside restaurant options, you spend a lot more on your lunch. It is still cheaper than full board, which would really be too much food for one day! But it is a consideration.

The beach is a little rocky and there is a bit of coral on the shore, so not the best on the island for swimming, but warm and still and inviting enough to be enjoyable. They have lovely swimming pools too. Service on the beach can be slow until you befriend one of the staff, (Seegobin was attentive and Nicolas, the manager of Shells and the Papaya pool bar).

So a contradiction of sorts, but all in all a worthwhile visit to a beautiful island for us, because we did not want to travel out of the resort. For those who would want to, consider the location.
I hope it is renovated soon as this seemed to be underway, and it would make it idyllic for a family holiday!

We arrived at Le Meridian on 2nd October with 11 friends and family to have our wedding on 5th October. Right from the first minute of our arrival we were made to feel most welcome and relaxed. Even when there was a mix up with our paper work at the government office (no fault of the Holiday Company or hotel) that meant we had to get married a day later, the hotel and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Our wedding coordinators Melanie Juste and Karine De Casanove helped us with the planning of our special day,( although Melanie was main co-ordinator and looked after us as if she was looking after her own family, nothing was too much trouble for Melanie) everything from choosing the flowers, cake, and which part of the hotel we wanted to get married in, to the finer details of the wedding meal. It was fantastic!

The facilities of the hotel were excellent and exceeded our expectations, there were 3 different restaurants (one buffet) and then a 4th restaurant opened whilst we were there. As we were staying in the Nirvarna area we had breakfast at La Faya restaurant most mornings, overlooking the beach, Nitish and Mehfooza greeted us each morning with a charming smile and great coffee. Each day at all the restaurants the presentation was exquisite and the a la carte menu at La Faya was as good as any top restaurant you would find in London, the Niçoise Salad is well worth trying, I had one every day! The newest restaurant, Cumin, has an excellent selection of curies and they make fresh naan bread in front of you, light and delicious! Pradeep was our waiter in Cumin and he was very attentive and professional; we never went hungry or thirsty. We would always see the head chef’s in the restaurant and they would always make a point of speaking to us and asking if we were enjoying our food. The one thing I would say is that the hot plates needed to be a bit hotter as sometimes the food wasn’t always piping hot.

The staff at all the bars were constantly friendly and pleased to see us and Dillan at the beach bar very quickly knew what our favourite drinks were. Sahil, the bar manager in the main reception area was always friendly as told us the best places to visit in Grand Baie.
I only have a little to mention about the rooms as we spent most of our time on the beach or in the many restaurants. Upon arrival, as part of our wedding package we were eligible for an upgrade if one was available. Imagine our complete surprise when we were given the keys to the Royal Suite in the Nirvana area. Oh my goodness it was incredible! The house keeping staff that looked after us and our room made a point of personally introducing himself to us as Soudesh and you could see he was very proud and professional about his job, and kept our suite spotless.

All in all we were all so pleased to have chosen Le Meridian for our wedding, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, and would definitely go back one day (to celebrate our anniversary maybe?). It is clear that they are professional, and well equipped to cope with your dream wedding with any number of guests that you wish. The setting was complete paradise and the whole experience was a fairy tale. We have very treasured memories of this wonderful hotel and beautiful people and Paradise Island.

Room Tip: The quieter end is the Nirvana end of the hotel where they tend to have couples and honeymoon couple...

I checked into this hotel expecting the normal Starwood experience I get everywhere. We booked two rooms and what a nightmare it has been. I booked this place for 6 nights and at have just done two nights and I am already thoroughly fed up. The AC didn't work at all the first night. They fix it the net day but forget to clean up the mess or even make up my room. The next day I come back to my room after breakfast and the lock doesn't work. They take forty minutes to fix. The manager don't seem to really care. I have never seen such callous attitude on any other property. I am going to be a platinum member soon and I feel I should have continued my loyalty with the other hotel chain. I have four more days to go and wonder what comes next. I would not recommend this place to any traveller. This is the first review I have written about any hotel so you can imagine how disappointed I am with this whole experience.

Room Tip: Just stay away from this particular property

We have just come back from our honeymoon at Le Meridien Ile Maurice. There were many good characteristics of the hotel including fantastic service. The rooms were always well serviced and the staff were always polite, attentive and helpful.

However, there were quite a few things which made it a disappointing holiday for us. No1 is the food: there is a choice of three restaurants: Indian buffet, Seafood, Al La Carte and a general buffet for dinner and two to choose from (seafood and al la carte ) for lunch. The food was generally of good quality however there was not alot of choice compared to similar hotels we've been to, particularly being a vegetarian. There is 1.5 hour gap in between breakfast and lunch, and 3 hour gap between lunch and dinner where the only food available was from the beach bar which had a limited and unvaried menu of burger and chips/pizza. If for any reason you missed the lunch you were stuck with very little choice.

However, the main problem with the hotel was lack of entertainment. There was supposedly an entertainment team, however they did not run any activities during the day. In the evening there is a multi cultural show once a week. The rest of the evenings are pretty dull with dinner ending at 10pm and the bar closing at 11pm. Most days guests spent lounging by the pool followed by evenings slumped in the lounge. As a young couple, we really struggled with the boredom and had we not been on a post-wedding high I think this would have caused us real issues. We resorted to a couple of cocktails and playing cards most nights or heading out to the cinema which is ridiculous when you are staying in an all inclusive resort.

All in all, due to the above we were quite disappointed and would not return or recommend Ile Maurice unless people wanted to sunbathe all day and do little else. What a shame.
