Le Meridien Ile Maurice

Reviewed March 9, 2013

We have just returned from a great two weeks stay in Le Meridien in Mauritius with my wife and two small kids.
When we’ve decided to make our first trip to Mauritius I spent a lot of time to choose the hotel to stay at.
We were very lucky to pick Le Meridien hotel!
Le Meridien is a great choice for family holiday. Kids are welcomed and find beautiful and safe environment in the hotel.
There are many things we liked about the hotel. Let me list some of them:
Location – hotel is directly o a beautiful long beach in the west/northern part of the island. This is area with the best weather in Mauritius.
Beach – beautiful long sandy beach with plenty of sunbeds. Different type od ocean access from rocky to sandy with no deep water. To access the ocean protective shoes are recommended because of stones and coral pieces in some parts of the bottom.
Hotel staff – almost everyone we have met from the employees were very helpful, nice and friendly. Answer to my question “How or where can I do this or that?” was mosty : Ï’ll do that for you!”. Special thanks to guest relations manager Ahmed for his help.
Hotel layout and facilities – we found everything we needed in the hotel. Pool, bars, restaurants, gym, spa, kids club, kids playground. View from our room was unforgetable.
Free “toys and games” on the beach and in the ocean – water skiing, windsurfing, glass bottom boat, snorkling trips, kayaks, sail boats... everything right there free of charge. I have tried everything I could.
Food – in all restaurants, including the main one buffet style 180, was great! Especialy dinners with Italian, French and seafood theme were perfect.
To be fair, it’s necessary to mention that there also some negative things that would need improvement:
Dated furniture and interiors – already mentioned many times here. Hotel is in the environment that is affecting state of wood and everything used. I hope that investment in repairs is comming soon. Managing of restaurant waiters – having restaurant myself I could not believe how disorganized they were. Our table was at the same time serviced by at least five different waiters. Orders were often late and we’ve never managed to complete our lunch or al a carte dinner in less than two hours.
Little and bit bigger animals – for someone could be disturbing finding some insect and geckos in the room. Unpleasant were also birds in restaurants not only outside but also inside. Birds were sometimes eating and drinking directly from guests plates and glasses while they were getting some more food. My wife has real phobia of birds and she has experienced some hard times in the restaurants.

BUT, these negatives were not disturbing us so much and we had great times in Le Meridien and will come back to this hotel again for sure!

Hopefully will be there again next winter!

Dear Mr br72,

Thank you for taking time off in writing this review. We were delighted to hear that you had a wonderful stay with us at Le Meridien Ile Maurice.

Your positive comments and kind words are very much appreciated and we assure you we have communicated these to those staff and departments concerned. Customer care service is amongst our highest priorities and it is always gratifying to receive such positive feedback and know that the team has looked after you and your family so well.

We have also taken on board your comments on service in the restaurant and our Food and Beverage Manager is currently taking corrective steps so that these situations do not recur.

With regards to your comments of the bird situation in the main restaurant, we are reviewing with the maintenance department where we can prevent access to this nuisance.

Regarding insects in the room, whilst all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that no insects are present in guest rooms, on a tropical island with an open plan hotel, it is challenging to guarantee that such incidents will not occasionally occur. This is indeed an issue which has developed quite recently with the warmer weather and we have regular initiatives being carried such as pest control to keep the matter under control.

In closing, it is our hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to Le Meridien Ile Maurice on many future occasions.

Sincerely,

The Management

The price was heart ripping and the apprehension at its peak when we booked our honeymoon at Le Meridien, Mauritius. The sorry rainy weather and intolerable heat at the airport further dampened our spirits. But the moment we stepped foot inside LE MERIDIEN, we knew it was going to be the best holiday of our life. The majestic sea view from the hotel lobby took away all the stress that we had accumulated with all the running around during our big fat Indian wedding. The reception staff were kind and attentive, we were greeted by Melanie who was a darling! The staff at the restaurants was equally pleasant and our cleaning lady was a delight to talk to :) she was our local connection to the cultural amalgam that Mauritius is. The room service was extraordinary. Mauritius in itself is a beautiful place but if anything the stay at Meridien only made it better. The huge property of this place is a wonderful exploration for the curious ones so much so that we didn't mind chucking one of our tour days just to roam around the hotel and spend the day at its beach. The live band at night is great fun and makes evenings at the beach even more romantic. Our special honeymoon dinner by the beach at Shells restaurant was simply out of this world. We were attended by a charming lady called Pamela who made our special dinner even more special. The spa and sauna were extremely relaxing; they took us to some place else, the place where dreams are made! My pick for all honeymooners, you won't regret a single penny spent here...

I Had Mixed Feelings when i arrived at Mauritius as our Package Tour Operator Called Akquasun was so Bad and I booked my package through yatra but they dont care for the customers I mailed them about the tour operator who made pick our luuggage to the top of the Bus so i decided not to go for any Tours if you want to explore the real Mauritius anyone should hire a car with GPS it is so beautiful country that i will like to go again and again but do not book through any tour operator as they fool you.
So when i arrived at Le Meridien i had mixed Feelings But they gave Welcome Drink on Arrival which were refreshing but they took 15 Minutes to clean the table after telling the service assistant thrice but the girl who attended us was very nice and helpful so checkin was very smooth.

They room was very clean but little old as ac vent had leaking problem cupboards were old needed polishing but room views and size of the room was great. So Small issues were not to ponder upon as the staff was good View from my room was great Had a private Lawn and Private Beach was Serene.

So Coming to the Breakfast choices were Little and every day Same so repetition made us very bored and But the Dinners were Exceptional as you can have food as all the Four restaurants.Dinner Was Just Great

We had problems with the Shuttle Guy 2 Were very nice but the Fat guy with hair was pathetic did not treated us well said he is very busy

Checking Out is Lenghty Procedure so should checkout early morning or late as they have queues but one of the shuttle guy Tall Thin helped us so we checked out early Beach was Staff 80% Good ,Food was Good so I will say one should stay at this Hotel

The cleaning staff were excellent. Most staff are friendly. But during my stay at this hotel with my family i found that for a highly recommened hotel it was a absoulutly ridiculous experience.
A family member upon breakfast found a trail of spiders nest in his cup.At one particular restarant inside the hotel flies were landing on our food and hovering around us while we were eating. This is was a unspeakable event were the family had to get up and leave our food.Manangement just lit a few candles to try stop the flies from roaming around us but did not work.At that point we just had enough and left
All 7 members of the family had a upset stomach this i know was due to the none of the heath and safety food hygine standards were followed if any
During our dinner meals water was leaking from the roof as it rained heavy on one particular evening. Not even a sign to indicate puddle on floor were my mother nearly slipped which would of caused a serous accident were we would of sued.
On Speaking to a lady on her second day of the honeymoon she explained she had slipped inthe sauna and broke her arm.Tragic.No Safety signs at all are put in hotel for care of the persons.
Bottled Water prices inside hotel is a extreme rip off.Charging of £4 for a small bottle
Also be warned of the Taxi service as they will also try to rip you off
This was my first time in Mauritius but hotel experience has not put me off.The people are lovely and friendly and the country is beautifull but i shall not be returning back to that hotel on my next visit.

We been to Mauritius about every 2nd year since 1999, so we clearly like it. For us it is a great place to relax as a family.

We have tried several hotels on our trips and have stayed at Le Meridien several times. The main reason we choose to come back is nice staff, comfortable rooms (50 sqm and up) and a good long beach.

You will of course find better hotels in Mauritius, but for us Oberoi, Prince Maurice and the like are too expensive (and have seemed to be a bit boring when we visited). Meridien offers an attractive mix, and for us the extra you may get the other places are often not worth the cost.

For us this is a great hotel for a family. Activities like volleyball, fotball etc on the beach at the end of the day is great.

They also have a whole separate part of the hotel for couples only, so if you prefer not to have kids around that is no problem.

You will eat in the hotel most days so we always take at least half-board. This time we chose all-inclusive which worked great (covers almost everything except expensive import wines).

All-in-all another great stay at Le Meridien. Many thanks to the staff who do everything they can for the guests to have a great holiday!

We spent the last part of our 17 days November 2012 vacation in The Indian Ocean at Le Meridien Ile Maurice. We benefited from a great offer from agoda's site of 85 euro/pers/day on AI basis. After a flight delay of more than one hour caused by the sickness of one flight attendance from Etihad we have arrived in Mauritius from Seychelles for the second time in a period of 10 days. The transfer from the airport was made with taxismauritius.com and took around 60 minutes. Check-in went fast and we received a room on the northern part of the resort at 2nd floor. This was a standard room, with a very nice balcony and ocean view. Room is vey spacious and has everything you need from safe, comfy bed, mini-fridge to A/C, LCD TV, big bathroom with shower and bathtube. The only downside of the room is the furniture which is old and needs replacement. If you are AI you receive 2 complimentary bottles of water, but the mini-fridge is empty and you can have access to drinks only if you pay for the minibar.
The first dinner we had it was at The Buffet Restaurant (180 degrees), located close to the reception. It did not meet our standards because some of the food was cold and some dishes like prawns or beef were finished and they were not replenished. So for the next dinner we decided to choose an a la carte restaurant. We went for La Faya next evening where we found great dishes and hard-working mauritians trying to meet our expectations. We loved all the dishes from pumpkin soup to beef steak, also deserts (chocolate souflee, passion fruit icecream) were really great. The Rose South African wine had a really nice flavour. From that moment we decided to have dinner only at La Faya listening to the music of waves and enjoying top-class food.
We ate lunch at Sea-shells but unfortunately the service is very lousy and we had lunch for 90 minutes.
As for bars we loved Bois Cheri which has a relaxing atmosphere opposite to BayView Bar which during the evenings have local singers which were playing the music too loud for us.
The hotel is offering free wifi at the reception lobby, if you want to have internet in your room you have to pay for it. Also the non-motorized sports are free you can have a snorkeling trip or a glass bottom boat tour if you make the reservation before at the beach hut.
The garden is very nice with frangipani, pines and palms and the sunsets are really great when the sky is clear.
Pamplemousses botanical garden is close to the hotel so I recommend it for a 2 hour trip.
All in all it was a nice holiday and we are thinking of coming back to Mauritius in the future.
AI package is the best if you spend a lot of time on hotel grounds because lunch or dinner can go up to 1000-1200 RS (25-30 Euro)/person. If you go AI some of the food and drinks of the menu are still chargeable so be careful when you are ordering (the items with an asterisk are the chargeable ones).

Room Tip: Rooms on North Side of the resort are very quiet and for us the standard rooms were enough because t...
