“takes my breath away”
Reviewed June 13, 2010

We went to mauritius Oberoi for our honeymoon. We have managed to stay in some of the most stunning places in the world but have never been in a place with such friendly staff, exquisite food and quirky weather such as here! The staff genuinely made you feel special and couldn't do enough to make the stay special to the point where we felt almost as if we didn't want to make any little critisisms such as 'i don't like the spinach' for fear of having your plate whipped away and being re-cooked to our exacting standards, ooops sorry thats not a critisism! The beach, pool, restaurant, admin and room staff couldn't have done more. There is plenty to do if you want and if not just relax. The food is Michelin star standard although half board is the minimum I would recommend as the prices reflect the standard. Drinks can be expensive especially the wine but govt. duty dictates the costs. Stock up on duty free spirits & ciggies when in Dubai and this will help spread the cost. If we ever make it back to Mauritius the Oberoi is the one for us

My Wife and I have just returned from what I can only describe as one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.
The Oberoi is absolutely fantastic. The location is beautiful. Overlooking mountains to the left, from the beach, you immediately begin to appreciate you are somewhere special.
I could end up writing an essay on this place but I'll summarise in short the top points.
The rooms are of a very high standard, we stayed in a luxury pavillion which was more than adequate. You can pay for a villa with a private pool, but honestly, the pools at the hotel are so beautiful I wouldnt bother.
The grounds are exceptionally well kept, with so many staff attending to them daily.
The food at the hotel although expensive, is of the highest order. Thats breakfast, lunch & dinner, just fantastic.
The facilities are incredible. A great gym/spa, great restaurants (a main one and one set right on the beach), a lovely situated bar that allows panoramic views of the sunsets and also a great beach which is as private as beaches can be ( there are no such thing as private beaches!) where the water is ridiculously clear.
What makes this hotel so special however, something which has been repeated in other reviews, are the staff. They really are something special. Literally every single staff member from the cleaners to the management treat you like royalty. The attention to detail is amazing and you are made to feel so welcome its untrue. A good example are the beach boys as they are called. They wait on you hand & foot whilst you lay in the sun, almost to the point where you begin to feel bad! But honestly, you will not be disappointed with the service levels, they are incredible.
The Oberoi puts customer serive levels in this country to shame.

I have just returned from this hotel with my wife where we stayed for 2 weeks for our honeymoon. It was simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was amazing, food was top restaurant quality and the staff were so very nice and helpful. It was expensive but I think worth it for what we got. My only grip was that my pillow was a bit soft. I definitely intend to stay at more Oberois. First time I have stayed with this chain (I have stayed at hotels run by the Taj and Leela groups in India- they were good but not as good.)

Just back from 2 weeks at this superb hotel. Perhaps the outstanding strength is its staff who from beach boys, cleaners, reception to restaurant are charming, helpful and offer perfect understated service. Our room was an upgrade to a villa with pool - could have served as a house and garden for 4. The hotel is situated on the best part of the NE coast with stunning views over the Moka mountains. Walking along the beach South to Port Louis or North to Grand Baie you pass one hotel after another - it is clear that the Oberoi is in a class of its own. The beach is the sandiest and cleanest (they rake each night), the gardens beautifully planted and cared for. The restaurant provides outstanding food (Italian exec chef) with a wide choice and a standard equal to any capital city top restaurant. None of this comes cheap and the drinks are expensive (too). On the other hand room rates include a breakfast that lasted us until dinner, water sports apart from diving, activities such as cookery school and wine tasting...Go if you can!

We stayed at the Oberoi hotel for only three nights to start our holiday in Mauritus. We found the hotel absolutely beautiful - the quality of the fixtures and fittings in our room was excellent. We had a private villa with its own pool and garden, right on the beach. Grounds were very well kept and a pleasure to walk around. However, it is the service which makes the Oberoi special - their staff are just so well trained. Always stopped to speak to you and ask you how you were enjoying your stay etc. Service in the restaurant and in the bar was also friendly and prompt. We really couldn't fault it. The food was of a very high quality and yes both food and wine is quite expensive but we did expect this from a five star hotel. We liked the fact that there was an adults only pool (although we stayed at a time when there were very few children around) and the service around both the pool and the beach was superb. Our only critisism was that they beach is very small and we were glad that the hotel was so quiet that we were able to get a sunbed.

I recently stayed there and loved the villa with its private pool, big enough for laps. Great views on the beach and everything is within walking distance. The set up is elegant, yet not stuffy and the staff is all smiles and ready to assist.
It has everything the traveller can look for, night life is available nearby for those hungry for action and shopping. If you look for peace and quiet, privacy, the hotel is just that.I would go there again.

We have been fortunate enough to stay in several Oberois and this one was no disappointment.
We had perhaps the best holiday we have ever had when we stayed there in Feb/March 2009 and so are booked to go again Feb/March 2010 to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
We had an individual thatched luxury villa - and have booked the same but are lusting after a pool villa !
Lovely welcome, comfortable bed and room, excellent bathroom.
Garden pretty and with gazebo style structure great for eating room service lunch in.
Two pools (one infinity & one quiet only but actually both quiet).
Snorkelling excellent - we plan to use the dive facilities this time & are busy doing the theory for the PADI course now. We had the most wonderful half day taken by the hotel watersports staff swimming with dolphins and snorkelling in the clearest brightest water I have ever seen. The Green Island rum helped things along too!
Visiting lecturer on the night sky was very good and although the wine was rather pricey (as across the island) I would recommend the tutored wine tasting.
Food was fantastic and the restaurant staff very good (it is invidious to single anyone out but Giany was particularly memorable) and remembered our repetitive requests. You could even have dinner on the beach with the sunset & stars.
Perhaps if my memory serves me right the internet access was wired - would it be too much to request it be wireless? If it is already then my apologies.
Simply perfect for recharging batteries.
