“Looks better in pictures”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

We spent two nights at this hotel and we were not very impressed. Despite the helpful and attentive welcome reception, we were disappointed with our room, it was dirty, there was mould in the shower area, and the paint was peeling off in places, there was only a thin sheet on the bed, no fluffy duvets. With 125€/per night, I expected a bit more. The place looked like it was renovated very quickly without much attention to detail. The pictures on the site look so much better than what it is in reality. Breakfast was included in the price, but it lacked variety, the croissants were hard, no fresh fruit available. Beach is small, but ok, the reef starts very close to the shore, so it is difficult to walk into water, but it is good for snorkeling. The pool area is nice. We had a rental car, so it was easy to find restaurants from the nearby Grand Baie area.

Dear Sir ,

Thank you for your post.

We would like to apologize for the few disappointment mentioned concerning the room.
Rest assured that all necessary measures have been taken.
However we would like to point out that our normal procedure will include 2 bed sheets on the bed and a wool cover is put in every room in addition.

Furthermore, our breakfast includes everyday a minimum of three different fresh fruits.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you one more time at Recif Attitude to rectify this disappointment.

Regards,

Raymond Duvergé

Took my 9 yo granddaughter (her first trip to Mauritius, my 2nd) and we both loved our stay at the hotel. She especially loved the pool but the chlorine hurt her eyes the first day. The room we had on the first floor was delightful but the lack of shade/shelter from the sun and rain on the balcony was a bit off-putting but there is a vine growing which will hopefully remedy this situation. The manager and staff are a sheer delight and I cannot recommend them highly enough, Nothing is too much bother and they are always helpful, cheerful, smiling and informative. The hotel is well situated for exploring and the taxis are right outside. The taxi drivers sure know their stuff. The welcome and greet from the airport was fantastic too. My granddaughter says she's taking her parents and sister there and staying for at least 3 weeks and when you think that they are all "homebodies" that's high praise indeed. She has stayed at hotels in Paris and London and elsewhere so she has a good yardstick for comparison. Needless to say I'll be back again even if it is later rather than sooner.

Room Tip: Try a first floor room with an ocean view - it really is sooo worth it. The lights in the distance...

Dear Wendy,

On behalf of all the ‘Family Members’ I would like to thank you for your warm recommendations of Récif Attitude: it was our pleasure to welcome you to our hotel and we are very happy to know that your stay even short was “sweet”.

The vine growing has been put to give some shade and protection; this should be effective in a near future.

Thank you again for your review.

We would be delighted to seeing you again soon at Récif Attitude,

Kind regards,

We had a great week at le Recif hotel. The staff are friendly and unlike many faceless larger resorts this little hotel makes it feel as if you're staying in Mauritius.
The food is good, some local dishes and it's well worth booking a table on the beach for the speciality fish menu once a week.
As others have suggested its worth splashing out on a sea view room. (upper floor if you can get it)
I had 2 massages in the spa whilst there and they were good value compared to other places on the island. A must after a long flight from the uk.
We hired a car for 2 days to do some exploring. Not for the faint hearted and definitely don't drive at night. It's like playing a computer game of miss the moped, dog, children etc.
Lovely pool but unfortunately on day 3 a whole bunch of kids took over. We didn't realise it was French school holidays. It would be good if there were adult only swim times during the day when it gets busy.
The hotel is extremely well managed and the management are always on hand to ask about your stay.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Upper floor sea view room.

Beautiful hotel, with excellent service. Quality and choice of breakfast and diner could be improved. Perfectly located to explore the island. The prices of drinks and snacks at the bar are reasonable. Beautiful beach and pool area. Boathouse service at the beach, free rent of snorkeling equipment and free glasbottom boat trip twice a day.

We spent 7 nights at Recif. Trip from airport is an hour. We arrived at night and were shown to our room which was comfortable and had the basics. We stayed on a ground floor garden room close to the gate, the noise was not that bad just scooters driving past which you can still hear at the beach anyway. Raymond and his staff are fanrastic, my mom had a birthday and they baked us a lovely cake. Its like a family, everyone is so nice! The food was ok, lots of chicken and fish which is fine. We went half board and just ordered sandwiches if we got hungry at lunch which was 2 out of 8 days. The spa is fantastic and the treatments are well done. We didnt swim much but the beach is nice and relaxing to just read a book or nap. The taxi service outside is efficient and reasonably priced if you want a tour of the island. There is a shop outside where you can buy water and I saw an aquarium but we didnt visit. There is a bus stop close by. And its not far from grand baie if you want some hustle and bustle. Overall we enjoyed our stay, the hotel is like a home. There isn't any nightlife outside of the hotel but you can use that time to relax during the evenings. I will definitely come back to this hotel. Its intimate and friendly.

Stayed at Recif in March 2013- half board booked via Kuoni. Took around 1 hour from airport to Recif by taxi. Weather was hot and it was sunny.Staff were excellent and friendly. The manager arranged to extend the time of our check out on the day we left so it was much more relaxing for us. Spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach under the beach umbrella or the pool.Went on the free glass bottom boat trips. The beach is relatively shallow and it is fun to do snorkelling. They also have kayaks which are free to use. The beach is sandy/shingly. Trou aux beach has an excellent beach and is 10-15 mnts by bus or about 45 mins to walk.We went half board. The food was good on some days and average on others. There is plenty of choice with the buffet. There are no other restaurants close by so we could not compare the food.Went on a boat trip arranged via the boat house to isle of cerfs which was good.Room was nice and was cleaned daily. Majority of guests are French with a few Brits and other nationalities. On most nights there is live music which finishes by 11-1130 pm.Overall we thought it was a good resort and good value for money.

First impressions count, and Recif did not get off to the best start with our stay (although quite possibly through no fault of the Resort, but of an on-line booking service) - not expecting us to arrive the day we did, we were offered a room which was not at all comfortable, or well positioned on the property. Once we were moved to a different room, things certainly picked up. The beach, the pool, the restaurant, the garden and the bar were all lovely - all the common areas were well maintained, well attended and comfortable. The room we ended up with was adequate - it was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the airconditioning worked (except for one night, but it was promptly fixed) - but looked a bit tired and sparse (a lick of paint would improve it, and including a fan in the room as an alternative to the airconditioner could be both functional and ornamental). There were forever ants in the room, but it is the tropics and some things are to be expected.

Although it was clear from the outset that the resort was isolated, it surprised us precisely *how* isolated it is. If you want to eat other than at the resort's restaurant, you will need to factor in the cost of a taxi or hire car, because walking to restaurants is not feasible.

Room Tip: Avoid room 22

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your recent stay at Récif Attitude.

We would like to apologize once again for the “little mixed-up” when you arrived at the hotel, but were happy that a suitable solution could have been found the next day.

As you must have found out, Mauritius is sometimes like a big village and things can be further than they seem on a map! For guests willing to travel like a local, there is also a bus stop in front of the hotel.

Warm regards,

Raymond Duvergé
