This is the first time we have ever written a review but having read some of the comments regarding the Maradiva we felt we had to put the record straight, in our opinion that is. We only booked the Maradiva for our wedding (we will cover this later) in January and we arrived for our 2 week stay early on 18thFeb. Having made the booking we started to worry about our special day having read some of the recent reviews. Just to let you have some background, we have stayed in some of the most exclusive hotels in the Far East, Dubai, Europe, the States and the Caribbean so we like to think that we have a good idea of how a top Hotel should be. Well all we can say is that the poor reviews on this site, in our opinion, are simply wrong. From our early arrival we have been treated so well by ALL the staff who are attentive, helpful but not over the top and they come across as being so sincere. There are obviously some exceptions, but only in a good way, for instance the wedding co-ordinator, Prithee is simply outstanding and she made our special day simply perfect (we were married on Feb 24th). We have had breakfast and Dinner in Coast2Coast several times and have found the service and the food superb, only once did I have a problem with my eggs being over cooked one breakfast and having pointed this out to one of the waiters, I had a replacement within 5 mins.
Others have complained of a “lack of privacy”. True, the plunge pool in front of your Villa is not surrounded by a brick wall, why would you want it to be?? We can relax in ours and look across at the view of the superb gardens and the Indian Ocean beyond, if you want total privacy why not go inside the gorgeous Villa.
No the bars are not full of noisy people, this is such a peaceful resort where you can unwind and enjoy each others company, if you want noisy Bars probably best to go to a resort in Spain.
We could go on and on about how amazing this place is, we are lucky enough to have another week here, however, if anyone is thinking of a trip to Mauritius or better still, planning a wedding here, please do not be put off by the negative comments on this web site. If you contact us through Trip Advisor we would be happy to answer any questions you may have or share some of the 100+ photo’s we have already taken!!

On arriving at the resort we were greeted by very friendly staff and it was thoughtful to be asked if we had specific food requirements at this time. We were taken to our villa by buggy and found it to be spacious and clean, with awelcoming fruit basket and drink. It rained frequently, so we were bitten a few times. Due to this, we did not use the outside shower. Also as the refreshments and mini bar were located in the outside area, we chose not to sit outside inthe evening and use them. It would have been nice to have had some milk left in the fridge though. The service was excellent, both in the villa and the restaurants. The food was excellent, though being on half board it was careless of the resort to charge extra for some dishes - I felt that this detracted from the sense of a "getaway and carefree" break and was detrimental to the resort. The location was so beautifiul and the gardens well stocked with lovely flowers and well kept, it was a joy to walk round them. There could have been a touch more lighting on the paths, especially as the snails were going for walks! There were plenty of activities on offer, many free, but we chose not to take up any. The Spa treatments were good, though the floor was slippery during the rain, when walking to the treatment rooms in outside buildings. Remember to take plastic shoes for going into the sea, as there may be lion fish. The shop on site had sold out, though I could have bought a pair from the few friendly (and not pushy) sellers on the beach. I appreciated that when you approached a lounger on the beach, immediately the bed was prepared by the beach staff and I was given a cold flannel along with cold water with ice in a glass - very refreshing. And with the occasional choice of fruit or an ice cream being brought to me, I was in heaven! Check your time of collection when leaving, we were told 11am in a letter then 10am verbally. We prepared for 10am and it was actually 11am, so it spoiled the end of our holiday, having to be at the small airport longer than was necessary. But overall, the villa was all we needed and the plunge pool was a lovely temperature.

Having just returned from a week in Maradiva, we both feel that this is one of the most wonderful hotels we have ever stayed in. The location is fabulous- west side means gorgeous sunsets and more sun that in east Mauritius, plus the dramatic backdrop of the mountains makes the beach so much more stunning than simply sand and sea.
Our villa was just Heaven- very private indeed and extremely chic. The gardens are joyous and very lush, fabulous bathroom and outside shower. Best Spa and gymn I have ever used in any hotel. The staff were fabulously helpful and polite, service occasionally could be slow- but as we were not rushing to catch the next tube train it didnt matter! We loved the food- and best cocktails as the sun went down. Boat house activities superb too.
Any little niggles? Drinks were expensive- but again, very high quality. I would have liked a wider range of light snacks at lunchtime. A mini bar price list would be helpful.
Would we return- cant wait!

I found what I was looking for at Maradiva. What a place. Beautiful location, secluded villa with a plunge pool. Exactly what my partner and I needed, peace, quiet... The Spa was amazing. Well set up, wet area, relaxation area with vast sunbeds and a great treatment, the staff is very good and asks the right questions before your treatment starts.
We truly enjoyed every moment, the pool, the beach(could be a bit more manicured if you're picky). The only let down would be the food offerings, a bit limited, and strange choice of combinations. Having said that the nearby village and endless number of resorts offer enough variety if one gets tired of the offerings at Maradiva. We enjoyed the well equipped fitness area with distinct cardio and gym area.
The hotel could do with some investment here and there and staff needs maybe more direction but overall a great experience. We loved the dinner on the beach, a real treat in one of those beach gazebos. We would go back, a real retreat, away from the restless cities and enjoy the comfort and luxury of a villa.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Maradiva with my wife. To sum up the service is poor and confused and certainly doesn't tally with a hotel that charges the prices the Maradiva does for accommodation, food and drink.

My intention isn't to air our every gripe with the hotel in minute detail but to give anyone potentially looking at hotels in Mauritius an honest view.

First impressions were very positive. The resort is very nice and well laid out. Our beach villa was very nice if starting to look a little bit dated. The outside area with the little plunge pool was particularly nice. So potentially a decent base for a nice stay.

The service is a real let down though and judging by other very similar comments it looks like a bit of a problem in general here.

While pleasant enough the staff lack any genuine warmth and empathy towards the guests. That on it's own is obviously not a major crime but most seem to lack any sort of common sense and eventually you do feel they are 50/50 to get anything right at all.

The housekeeping and in villa dining staff were comical. In fact at times we felt like we might have been in some Truman Show style sitcom. They don't allow you any privacy and at times it feels like you have the builders in!

My personal comic highlight was the dude who at 2.30 very politely asked if he could come back in an hour to collect the lunch plates etc but didn't show 'til 6.30 where upon he walked straight into the room while the missus was in the bath!

They had a curious habit of leaving your front door open (actually open, not unlocked) when leaving. It was all truly bizarre.

Restaurant staff were technically well trained but I would swap a technical lapse here or there for a friendlier approach and overall more competence. We actually found one or two of them quite condescending in a couple of simple exchanges (one where we were waiting well over an hour for starters).

Anyway as I said at the start I won't go into every problem we had as I haven't got a massive axe to grind and it would get boring!

But to sum up - the resort is nice enough but lacks any atmosphere or soul (the bar is totally lifeless). The banqueting staff may have been trained to a reasonable technical standard but lack any sort of genuine warmth, sense or flair and are erratic and error prone. The house keeping staff are total loons who won't leave you alone in peace in your villa.

For an establishment that puts itself in the bracket it does in terms of price, the service falls way way below what you'd expect. Definitely one to avoid.
