Wonderful place!

The resort is made of luxurious villas only so you get your own villa with your very own plunge pool. The decoration is very sophisticated but not too much.
In our villa there was a huge king size bed overlooking the plunge pool and the garden.
The bathroom was immense with a bath tub (with a very sweet attention every night: the hotel would lite a candle...) a separate shower that does not steam therefore you can a view on a very beautiful little garden. The cherry on the cake: an outdoor shower!!!!
Each villas are very private and have a patio with table and chairs, sofa, hifi station, mimi bar and a large sun bed by the pool.

The main resort (resort is a strong word as it is very intimate, only 65 villas) has an infinity pool directly facing the sea. The beach is also beautiful.

The cuisine is just very good!!! Please eat some gateau piment! The Maradiva has its own garden therefore you can ask the chef to collect your ingredients and cook them for you! How good is that?

Now let's talk about the spa... It is not for nothing that it is a "Leading Spa" ! I had the best massage of my life there, it would strongly recommend to treat yourself to one of the massage, for sure you will not regret it!

The service is beyond good, well above any expectations we had initially - it is almost as if the staff was reading our mind... It was incredible. This is what differentiate the Maradiva to other hotels on the island....

I DEFINITELY recommend this hotel - you will spend a magical moment.

Thank you the Maradiva for those wonderful moments and precious memories.

These villas are great! A king size bed, 40" LCD TV, big bathroom with bath, indoor & outdoor showers, your own private splash pool and outdoor seating area. They even supply you with a remotely controlled ipod dock and bose sound system to enjoy a few tunes.
The staff use golf carts to get around quickly and welcome passengers with open arms. At night if the are driving towards you they will stop and turn their lights off, so as to not blind you. These little things make such a difference! Overall the staff are very well mannered and always willing to help. Even at 4am when I needed a taxi to get to the airport, they were there to make me food take my bags and wish me a safe trip.
The only thing about this resort that I found frustrating is the Internet speed in the villas and lack there of at the restaurant/main pool area.

Room Tip: If you plan on visiting The Sands next door often, get a villa with number 3xx or 4xx. They are closer to The Sands than the other villas.

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Maradiva Mauritius. We wanted to thank you for your tripadvisor review of our resort that we have read attentively. We are pleased to know that you have enjoyed the villa and amenities but furthermore all the little courtesy from our staff, they are our best assets.

Concerning the internet, we have done our best to ensure a good access to the web from the villas by purchasing 70 dedicated broadband internet lines but unfortunately as we are located at the end of a long stretch of hotels the bandwidth allocated by Mauritius Telecom is not as great as it should be. We are also currently working on a solution to install a Wifi connection at Main pool and Coast to Coast restaurant without sacrificing the speed in the remaining of the resort.

We are taking our guests comments very seriously in order to always improve our service and hardware. We will be happy to know if we have missed something that could have made your stay even more enjoyable and permitted to reach the 5 stars mark in your assessment scale.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again at Maradiva.

Kind regards

My wife and I both questioned whether the Resort was deserving of a 5 star rating by us.

There is no doubt it is a wonderful and relaxing private beach resort on a road servicing several other top-end hotels and resorts. Maradiva always looked far less like a large holiday complex from outside its borders and this was confirmed when walking around its beautifully maintained and spacious grounds.

From the moment of our arrival, late (very late) on Sunday, 1 July thanks to huge traffic problems in Flic en Flac the quality of the resort was evident and the welcome by the staff was as comforting as the surroundings. All through the time of our stay, the warmth and efficiency of every staff member, including restaurant management and personnel, was to the fore with unassuming and willing attention, and that includes the staff serving on the beach too.

We had the pleasure of speaking with both General Manager, M. Fabrice Collot, and Resident Manager, M. Eric Molle a few times and it is clear that the attention to the needs of the guests begins with them and forms part of the service standards of all guest-contact staff.

The food in both restaurants was of good standard and the wines available for purchase at dinner incorporated varieties from around the world, including if you were prepared to pay for them several first-growth clarets! Prices ranged from around 1,500 rupees to 9,000 rupees (a 2007 Puligny Montrachet was 7,500 rupees, a 2005 Ch. Lilian Ladouys 3,500 rupees for example) although you could have a Ch. Petrus or Latour for a price containing too many 0’s for this writer! The Australian wines available could be better however.

As with the wine, the food was varied in its make up. It had both French and Indian influences, obviously given Mauritius’ culture, but Italian and cosmopolitan dishes were also available. For those on half-board bases, there were plenty of dishes to select without the need to choose other, clearly marked, supplementary dishes. It is worth noting that bottled water and coffee are not included in half-board rates at the restaurants. Villa dining will also carry a premium to be added.

Breakfasts are sufficient but they will be different from what you probably anticipate. Bacon, eggs, mushroom, tomato etc which appear on English breakfast menus are somewhat different. There are plenty of cereals, fresh juice, cheese, breads, pastries to be had in addition to your chosen cooked breakfast. Don’t fear, you will not go hungry and it is good!

Dining surroundings, naturally, are beautiful and meal times can be as much fun with waiter interaction as you care to allow to occur. The wait staff are excellent, they will respond to you if you want that or will respect your privacy if that is your preference.

The villas are spacious and comfortable too. There are lots of descriptions of them on TA so I won’t add to them here except to say you would be hard to please if you didn’t enjoy your time in them.

We spent a day playing golf at Tamarina GC. Much more expensive than our Australian club rates but a lovely course (not easy) and had a private day excursion courtesy of our wonderful holiday representatives in Mauritius, Coquille Bonheur. There is a sense of dereliction to much of the towns and villages of Mauritius which is not pleasing to the eye and the major tourist attractions whilst interesting are not captivating.

What was a phenomenal experience (for us) though was Casela Wildlife Park and the Walk With The Lions. Believe me, if the thought of doing this walk doesn’t scare you (and it shouldn’t – it is very safe) do it. The experience was just marvellous. Very small groups, great handlers and two terrific cats. Pat them, walk beside them, hold their tails, be photographed with them. Love it.

Sadly, our six nights soon elapsed.

So why, then, the query over the resort’s rating? There have been reviewers on this website that have been very picky about some aspects of their stay – faults can be found if one wants to look for them. I’m on holiday, I accept things may not always be 100%, I won’t quibble about having to pay more here than somewhere else, I want to enjoy myself. But sometimes things can happen which just detract from one’s experience.

For us, that detraction came in the form of the villa cleaning. There were just a few small things which in isolation wouldn’t concern us but collectively they just caused us to question whether they would happen in a truly five-star establishment. Dinner is served in restaurants from 7 pm, why then do the turn-down staff appear when we are getting prepared at 6.40pm? When asked if they wouldn’t mind returning in about a half hour’s time they did not return at all leaving us without the supplied water for the night. On the following evening, they do not arrive at our door until 9.50 pm – we were asleep in bed. Surely this is too late a time for this service? Something lost in translation possibly?

The next day, we were due to check out at 6.30 pm (a genuine ‘thanks’ to Management for allowing us to continue to use the villa until then at no additional cost) but no supply of water as was the norm previously in the morning room cleans.

One bath towel less left on one day, an empty conditioner bottle not replaced immediately, a drinking glass not replaced until 48 hours later, a mini-bar item not replaced until 48 hours later.

They are each minor incidents and they certainly didn’t affect the enjoyment of our holiday, but in a true 5 star establishment they just should not happen so, sorry MM Collot and Molle, we deduct 0.5 points which on Trip Advisor equates to a rating of 4.

The weather was a little too cool for us early July, due mainly to the wind which blew stronger than we were expecting on the more sheltered side of the island so when we return it will be at a later date in the year and it will be to Maradiva Villas undoubtedly.

On behalf of Fabrice COLLOT - General Manager

Dear Mr. and Mrs. S.,

warm greetings from Maradiva, we are pleased to see that you have reached Australia safely.

We wanted to thank you for your thorough TripAdvisor review of our resort that we have read attentively.
As you have mentioned we take guest comments very seriously hence making a point to meet and chat with most if not all our guests on a daily basis to enquire about their well being. We go the extra mile to respond immediately and heartily to any guest request as we are committed to provide a relaxing, worry-free, unforgettable time in Mauritius.

In that spirit, upon arrival, Guest is asked for his preferred time for turndown to guarantee that he will not be disturbed untimely, I have checked your folio and noticed that you have not registered any preference for turndown time. Due to the clientele mix in our resort turn down starts at 6pm when some guests are still enjoying the sunset on the beach and ends at 10pm because most of our patrons are still in the restaurants at that time. Nevertheless please accept our apologies for any disturbance caused.

We appreciate your graceful thank you for the late checkout; we try to offer this service free of charge when occupancy permits, we think that it is part of the five star service that we are offering, very few 5 star hotels can make that claim. As everything comes at a cost, it is a common practice in the hotel industry not to clean up the room until guest departure therefore no water or amenity delivery that day.

Again please accept my apologies for the little minor incidents encountered during your stay, we have briefed our staff to pay more attention to details as it is the true sign of a 5 star establishment. We are just a little bit saddened to have heard about these problems through Tripadvisor rather than directly from you during our daily chat which could have given us the opportunity to fix them on the spot and regain this very important 0.5 point rating. Finally we are benchmarked annually by the leading hotels of the world and according to our high score there is no doubt in the fact that we are offering a 5 Star quality.

We thank you for your comments which have been taken on board and are looking forward to welcoming you again at Maradiva.

Kind regards
Fabrice Collot

Stayed for 7 nights at the beginning of June, what an amazing place.

We were looking for somewhere special and where we could take our 2 year old son with us. Maradiva was the perfect choice, from the food to the hotel staff everything was amazing.
The staff went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Every morning the staff in the restaurants knew exactly what my son wanted for breakfast. In the evenings we went for food in the 2 restaurants, maybe the best food I have had in any hotel. The staff and chef looked after us all well.

The villa itself was nice and clean, and plenty of space to relax.
The plunge pool was nice and cold, perfect to jump in to after a few hours in the sun. The villa is just steps away from the beach, perfect for a stroll before breakfast.
The spa is a must, very relaxing massages from very experienced people...
Best bit was the sweet surprises left in your villa every afternoon, a different fruit cake daily.

Will have to make sure i return back very soon as i enjoyed my stay.

Thank you all at Maradiva for a wonderful experience. My son loved feeding the fish at the reception area.

We stayed for our honeymoon end of June to beginning of July and felt we were in paradise. We are experienced travellers and this is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. The Maradiva ticks every box and more for a 5 star hotel. All of the staff across all service areas were excellent and friendly...from the gardeners to front of house. We stayed half board but had so much food we didn't need lunch. The cuisine is fine dining in both restaurants...I am gluten free and the chef made me special bread and deserts every day, including a delicious chocolate cake for my birthday. As previous reviewers say the villa's are outstanding. We chose the location because we are both active people and wanted things to do. In reality we only left the hotel to play golf twice and a couple of visits into flic en flac, the rest of the time we just chilled on the beautiful beach and let ourselves be waited on by the beach staff. This place is quality.
