“The Best Hotel in Mauritius”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

Excellent Bedrooms, service and location which has given my wife and I the most relaxing stress free holiday. The Management went out there way to make sure we were looked after, always great surprises with food, every request we made possible. The Sands hotel gave us a 5 star 3 week holiday.
I am sitting at the bar after the superb breakfast looking at the most incredable views of pool, beach and mountains, with only two days to go we are already planning our return to the Sands.
A highly recommended Hotel to stay, not busy, we were treated like guests rather than tourists, great entertainment in the evenings with live music and local shows, the evening buffet Dinner offered a huge choice of freshly made food, and even made dishes that we requested .

Thank you to the Management of the Sands for making dreams come true.

Victor Cini

This is great property.
Located in a nice little corner with everything possible available at your disposal.
The Hotel is built really well with some great landscaping.
Rooms are quite modern and nice.
The bar in the evenings is the place to be in. Great music and great drinks.
The best thing about the hotel is its Swimming Pool. Fantastic.
I surely recommend this hotel.

Its a must visit when in Mauritius.

What was supposed to be our honeymoon, ended being our wedding anniversary as we couldn't make it due to medical reasons. Even then the reservation team was very kind and understanding of our situation (Melissa) and ensured that our booking didn't go waste. They accommodated us even after a year of our original booking without charging us any penalty or revised new year rates etc!!!

Upon our arrival we were graciously greeted by the general manager of the resort (apologies forget the name here but I think it was Mr Guillame).

We had the Honeymoon offer with the MAP plan (room+breakfast+dinner for the uninitiated). The room was in the Tamarin Wing (so called because it faces the Tamarin village and bay and also the best place in the hotel) on the first floor (try and get a second floor as the view is the best from there). When you open the windows every morning and are hit with a majestic view of the Trois Mammelle to Le Morne in the same sight, its majestic. You'll also see sparrows of every color possible and surprisingly unafraid.

We had booked a Deluxe Room that was spacious with a turn-down service every day.

The breakfast is amazing and don't miss out on a lovely morning chat with the one-man-army-station-during-breakfast = Nalinee...she dishes out omelettes, waffles, pancakes and what not for every guest single handedly and man were they sumptuous!!! Ashwin, the server, has dreams of going to Mumbai and see the Filmfare Awards live (poor cousin of Oscars in India) :)

The breakfast has a good spread for veg and non veg both. The dinner is decent though word of caution for vegetarians as you may not have a lot of options to choose from. The service is flawless and awesome.

The infinity pool and the activities everyday scheduled by the hotel are really nice. The sea floor close to the hotel is pretty rocky. We'd suggest visitors to buy Water Shoes so as to ensure not hurting themselves. There isn't much active sea life near the shore of the hotel so you'd have to go deeper inside the sea for a full snorkeling experience (again something that the hotel facilitates almost everyday).

The hotel also provides for daily activities for guests like glass boat rides, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, mountain bike rentals, scuba diving courses, songs/dance by locals in the evening etc.

We tried their a-la-carte restaurant only once and the food was good so was the service. They also arranged for a customized cake for us on the eve of our anniversary.

We truly had a memorable and unforgettable experience.

Tips for the readers here:-

1. You can make do with just bed and breakfast plan as there a host of options that Mauritius has to offer and you should try (though you may need a car / bike on hire).

2. Try and book a room on the second floor of the Tamarin Wing for best views.

3. The hotel has a lot of activities daily so be sure to check them out before you plan your stuff. They are complimentary and really nice.

4. Book a car rental before you reach here. It'll help you a lot especially if you plan to visit different parts of the island and explore the local offerings. Don't worry, an International Driving License is not required. You just need to have a one year old driving license from the country you come (though double check with the rental agency at the time of renting it). Don't book from the airport as the prices are very high there.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the Tamarin Wing especially on the second floor if you want good view or the g...

I went to Sands last year for my honeymoon and enjoyed my stay really well. The location is picture perfect and so are hotel surroundings. The infinity pool, water sports, rest-o-bars are really great.
I haven't come across a more courteous staff before, and they were always very helpful and top notch in their service.
The food was good and there were many options, but considering I'm a vegetarian, i had few things to choose from, but again, I do not expect to find great vegetarian food while travelling abroad.
Rooms was pretty spacious and with a nice and big bathroom.

What an amazing resort! Beautiful views and clean interior! A great place to relax! The staff are very friendly and were always willing to go the extra mile. As my husband and I have dietary requirements, we were pleasantly surprised that the chef's Christof and Ashok were always willing to make a custom 3 course meal to accommodate us. Jean's hospitality was more than welcoming and we would gladly stay here again! Fantastic staff all round that made our stay the best it could be! Highly recommended. Thank you! A great place to do business or relax. The atmosphere is very laid back. We stayed in October of 2006 for an incentive travel, The food was great the chef's are extremely able to satisfy anybody's request. On one evening in particular crocodile was also on the menu!!! The pool area was very well looked after ! Being in an all inclusive resort all was free...water sports included Kayak, water-ski, Para surfing and scuba diving (book in advance) We had asked for a suite and as asked it got given...Altogether Top quality All inclusive resort. Good work GV club

This is a great small and cozy hotel with very attentive staff who make you feel welcome and show they care about you being happy on your holiday. Great wild dolphin watching experience! Nice and different food, amazing view, big rooms with a nice view - what else can you wish? :)
