“Top notch resort”

Enjoyed my stay here in jan 2012. Excellent for families with great clubs for kids and teens. Food was good and I recommend full board. Anne Claire received us and was a fantastic host. I did not feel the need to leave the resort as there was plenty to do.

Room Tip: There are lots of flies in the area and gets very annoying when you are eating. This is not unique t...

Stayed there in 2011, found it, and more especially the staff, absolutely top class. Very friendly service, staff always willing to help and look after you.
A children's club that accommodated a wide range of ages,(young and teens) which they all loved and had to be dragged away from most evenings if there was something good on for them.
The grounds and beaches were well maintained, the rooms were always cleaned and tidied every day and the staff had some lovely little finishing touches for the children's room when they cleaned it/arranged it etc.
The food was good with great variety in the various restaurants including the ones on neighbouring resorts which were available to hotel guests.
A very minor point being the fact that when water ski-ing it had to be done quite a way out due to reefs, or whatever they were, so this added to the time taken for the trip. (It was being talked about as possibly something that would be charged for from the following year, so that may affect if people decide to go or not)
Overall it was everything we hoped it would be, a lovely place with lovely people.
We would return.

Sugar Beach is absolutly top notch.. Try to get a room in the villas if u can.. But most of the day u are out of the room..Food is excellent!! Caters for all taste buds!! There are many activities for adults/families/kids.. I enjoyed the tennis with a very good coach(Kavi)..I will beat him the next time we meet!!.. And daily activities in the resort are well managed and safe for kids as well.. Just ask for Denis(sportsdesk) and he will make sure u don't miss any of the activities,, and then u get the "quite pool" which is lovely in the afternoons and for watching the sun go down(ask for Soorab and he will take care of u as if u are a king)..the spa is superb and addictive(ask for Moksha),, the hotel is under tight supervision by the manager himself(come rain, sun, moon, and even cyclone..Andrew is there to make sure all is well).. To be honest,, The whole team is fantastic..the hotel is great,, and I don't think u will be dissapointed in Sugar Beach..however, U will be sad when its time to go home..so stay there for as long as u can..10 to 14 days at least.. I will go back in December!!... Only 1 thing must change,, try to get a band with Mauritian/creole type of music for Tides in the evening!! Its Mauritius afterall..thank u Sugar Beach!!

We were at Sugar Beach in January 2009 and returned in December 2012. I cannot complain about anything in 2012.
The staff were all fantastic, even after a full day of serving very demanding "tourists".
The teens club was fabulous - we never saw our teenagers and the staff that worked in the club were absolutely amazing according to my daughter.
The boathouse "crew" and the lifeguards were always full of smiles and energy and really joined in with all the activities. There was always lots of laughter and nothing was a problem.
The food in all the restaurants was great, especially Citronella and the service was very good. One had to be a little patient every now and again for drinks service, but that is to be expected when the hotel is basically 100% full.
I was very happy to see Rama - who once again made sure that we were all very happy! He is amazing and my kids are convinced that there are 4 of him as he is everywhere!!! He made our holiday special in 2009 and once again in 2012!
Saddul kept my glass full and really looked after my family - he is an asset to Sugar Beach. Pamela in the Gym remembered me from 2009 - she makes the gym a pleasure to walk into and I could not believe how she could memorise everyones names at the "aqua aerobics" which was fantastic every morning at 11h00.
We had superior rooms close to the teens club and they were fantastic and close to everything. The staff who clean the rooms and fill the minibars were great and made sure we had everything we needed all the time!
Our family enjoyed the "croquet" - and I really enjoyed the "drinks cart" that came past to make sure that I had my "G & T", which seemed to improve my game!
We had such a good time in December 2012 that we are already enquiring for December 2013. I cannot wait to go back.

The Sugar Beach Hotel Resort is an excellently set out establishment right on the beach in the Flic an Flac area of the island. The rooms are very well appointed in a well designed environment which is very well suited to romance for couples but is also great for families too.

The beach is kept clean and is raked/cleaned every day. The bar makes great island style drinks and the food is just as great too.

A highly recommended destination.

Room Tip: All rooms are great so just ensure that a good seaview is requested.

My wife and I spent a fortnight at the Sugar Beach in November 2012, and had a delightful holiday.
The hotel itself is at the heart of extensive and imaginatively landscaped resort grounds, which are immaculately maintained, and run directly on to a glorious beach. The accommodation is divided between a number of different buildings around the central reception and dining block.
The management and staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and this was certainly one of the pleasures of our stay. In particular, our first [standard] room was in the Manor building, which is exposed to late night music at the nearby The Tides restaurant/ night club [within the hotel complex], and, as older folk, we found this disturbing. The management was immediately responsive, and we were moved to another [upgraded] room well away from The Tides. This helpfulness was reflected by all levels of staff, in the dining rooms, reception, the bars, the beach facilities and so on, at all times.
We were on half board and very much enjoyed the evening buffets, which were changed daily to offer different food themes on a regional basis eg Indian, French, New World, American etc. The dishes were always interesting, at least good, sometimes quite excellent, and there was an enormous choice.
As older folk, we didn't take full advantage of the resort facilities, of course, but we admired the range, especially the boating, and everything seemed to be in very good order. Our main interest was swimming and snorkelling, and the snorkelling equipment made available was first rate. Our one, initial disappointment was that it was difficult to find good snorkelling areas simply off the beach, and it was really best to go to the edge of the reef or beyond. So snorkelling was not quite as simply "casual from the beach" as we had hoped; but the resort provided regular boats to take snorkellers to the good areas.
From the hotel it is an easy walk to Flic en Flac, where there is a useful collection of shops for holiday type shopping, including supermarkets; and there is bus stop just outside the hotel, with a regular and, apparently, quite frequent service to Port Louis, about 45mins away.
In one very small detail the brochures dont quite represent the facilities adequately. There is Wifi, and it is chargeable in the rooms; but it is also available free of charge at Wifi hot spots around the complex, with expertise to hand to help with any problems.
All in all, it was a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday; and we hope very much that we will find it possible to return to Sugar Beach in the near future.

Having wanted to visit Mauritius for a number of years, I had high expectations... I wasn't disappointed, Mauritius is a beautiful island were you are made to feel extremely welcome, and there is plenty to do!

Sugar beach is a beautiful hotel on a amazing stretch of beach, white soft sand and clear blue sea - truely a picture postcard. The hotel itself is lovely and we recieved a warm welcome when we arrived and a swift check in. The rooms are all fairly close to the lobby and resturants, but nicely spaced out. We had a room on the ground floor which had a fairly good sea view (the sunsets are amazing).

Facilities
Our room was really near the gym which was really handy as the facilities and staff in the gym are brilliant, our party used the gym frequently and also attended some of the classes which were great. They have a fully equipped Pilates room, boxing & kick boxing studio and spinning studio! I haven't been to a hotel before with such great sport facilities. There is a really good bike tour you can do as well. The tennis courts were also excellent and the water sports team were also great, plenty on offer to try, sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking and more. One tip - take sea shoes as the coral is really sharp and the cuts hurt!

Rooms
The rooms don't quite live up to the rest of the hotel, you can see that they are trying to keep the colonial style, but they could do with being a touch more contemporary, the bathroom was a touch scruffy, alway kept clean but really quite tired, and I don't really like having a shower in the bath, not in a hotel of this standard anyway. But you don't really spend much time in your room on holiday anyway.

Food
The food at sugar beach main buffet resturant was brilliant the chefs did an amazing job in providing interest and there was always something for all tastes. The two resturants were you are required to book 24h in advance (advisable especially if you want to go the Italian) were also really good especially tides, we ate here every few nights as it was so good (we all really love our food)! You also get to eat at the sister hotel which is quieter, but the food was just as good. One big bit of advise is go all inclusive, it's very expensive to eat and drink here, and if you are all inclusive be careful what you order as not everything is included - plenty is but you need to be careful especially if you have had a few to drink.

When we were visiting the hotel seemed at capacity, but the service was always good. We were given the option to move to another sister hotel - long beach - for the last two nights of our stay but we were not really told why they had offered this to us and it seemed like a bit of a faff to move even though the other hotel looked beautiful.

Overall our trip to Mauritius was wonderful, we had an amazing time and Mauritius really lived up to my expectations. One day I would love to return to the island...but there are still lots of places to visit first!
