Firstly let me say that the hotel is very pretty upon arrival, and indeed welcoming. However the room was small, with a small balcony. Upon arrival in our room, as we were a honeymoon couple and it was 11pm at night, we received a "cold platter" accompanied by thick chocolate cake in the shape of a heart and a large fruit platter. Not bad at all. That was pretty much the only thing that went smoothly. We had booked ourselves "Full Board Plus", which was all food and 2 drinks at lunch (either wine, juice or beers each) and 2 drinks at dinner. This was great, except the staff don't understand the difference between full board, full board plus and half board. So each day at lunch and night at dinner, there were constant questions and discussions over our bill. Irritating is an understatement. However that isn't all. Whenever your room is cleaned you will note a "Hilton Mauritius" channel is left on and you are reminded how fabulous your resort is, but especially the food hall, and how unmissable the breakfast is. OMG - breakfast is memorable, but for ALL the wrong reasons - it's absolutely filthy. Several mornings I got a dirty plate and I ALWAYS got my coffee when my breakfast was finished. At dinner, one had better be quick or everything edible is gone and you are left with Indian vegetarian curry night after night. Also, 3 nights in a row, the dessert table with stacked cakes and pastries was crawling, and I am not exaggerating, crawling with ants. It was off putting to say the least. The staff are slow, can be rude and extremely unhelpful. Oh, and whatever you do, becareful ordering Mocktails and as far as the staff are concerned, it's a cocktail (even though there is no alcohol in it) and you will be charged the 12EUR it costs. If there is more than one juice in it, it's a cocktail. We had endless fun trying to argue that point! NOT. The beach is nice, lovely sunset walks, but the beach isn't "private" as you are led to believe by the website, as some properties on Mauritius.
If you have a family - whatever you do DONT forget your toothbrush, sun creme or any sundries as there is a shop at the Hilton (which they take no responsibility for even though its on their property) and a book will set you back 24EUR, Nivea sun creme 24EUR, Aloe gel (if one gets burned) 25EUR and if you fancy a sarong, buy it on the beach as the one in the shops are 70EUR!! You can always go into Flic en Flac, but it's depressing to say the least. Not interesting like some towns/cities in Asia with markets and other sites, it's awful, and tiny. In short, there is NOTHING to do outside your hotel, and quiet frankly nothing to do in it. There is no disco, there is a band that plays during dinner but they finish at 11pm and who wants to sit at a bar, at night, getting eating alive but more irritatingly pay over 10EUR for a flipping drink!!! Whilst listening to a bad karaoke rendition of "Saving all my love for you" by Whitney Houston, sung by a bloke!! BORING! My husband and I have had the luck of being in a position to travel to some very beautiful destinations around the globe, especially in South East Asia. So when we got married this year, we decided that as we had never been to Africa, so we would go to South Africa and Mauritius for our honeymoon. SA was amazing, lots of animal watching on a game reserve and then touring Cape Town. So we were so looking forward to Mauritius for sun, sea, fun and good memories. What a shocking disappointment. We met with hotel management to tell of our disappointment and they were very understanding and admitted that the staff issues had to be resolved. We brought our notes after 8 days which were practically a foolscap page per day!! We have never complained on a holiday before, but felt bound too. I have stayed in 5 star properties in Malaysia for example and the service, food and entertainment are absolutely fabulous, and the outside areas, for example in Penang, interesting to see and wonder about with good shopping malls etc. Mauritius, in a word, is awful. It's no paradise and if one is saving hard earned cash to treat loved ones to 5 star luxury - then please, go to Asia or the Maldives, as Mauritius is not only rip off, but the service shoddy and the experience, in total, rubbish. I wouldn't recommend anyone go to either the island or the hotel. Not value for money and a waste of time. I'm sure there are nicer properties on the island, I wish we had found them!!

We spent 10 days at the Hilton in late October/early November for our honeymoon. We spent a long time deciding on which hotel to choose in Mauritius and we were very pleased that we decided on the Hilton. We walked along the beach and looked at the other hotels we considered and none looked as nice as the Hilton. The staff are exceptionally helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel itself is clean and well looked after and the rooms are spotless.
You do not need to take any beach towels, bath robes or slippers, beach bag, shampoo, conditioner or body lotion as all is supplied. The cosmetics are replaced every day.
As we were on honeymoon we also got special welcome gifts which were lovely, we were treated like royalty our whole stay.
There is plenty to do with the boat trips and water sports equipment all included in the price. There are also bikes you can take out for an extra charge. We snorkelled a lot and saw some amazing fish, each time we went out we saw something different.
We stayed on half board basis but did not find drinks overly expensive, I am not sure what people expect from a 5 star resort but if you compare the drink prices to 5 star hotel prices in the UK then they are actually quite cheap! Cocktails worked out about £6 each but with happy hour (which lasted for 2 hours!) every night in the Vista bar then coctails are only £3 each. You are provided with water in your room every day, juices and water at breakfast and free bottles of water on the beach, this meant we hardly bought a drink all day. Food on the beach we thought was really reasonable and most dishes were so big you could share one between 2 people. they were about £8 each. We didn't really need much lunch as breakfast was so delicious and there was so much choice we ended up eating enough to fill us up all day.
The local store in Wolmar is within walking distance or you can ride there on the bikes or jump on the bus outside the hotel. It was really cheap for drinks and snacks and we did make a couple of trips there to get some crisps which we took to the beach each day in case we did get peckish but didn't want a full lunch.
The evening buffet was beautiful with a great choice every night, we would get drinks from the Vista bar and take them down with us as the drinks menu was different in the restaurant and my favourite cocktail wasn't on there!
There are birds in the restaurant but these didn't bother us at all, I think you have to expect it when you are in an open air restaurant. The people moaning about them are probably the people that can't be bothered to close the covers over the bread and pastries which the birds then help themselves to! The hotel do everything they can to discourage them and even put temporary covers over the back of the chairs at breakfast to stop them messing on the chairs. I would rather have the birds and be outside than be sat in an inside restaurant not able to enjoy the beautiful views.
We loved the restaurant and did not feel like we were in a buffet style restaurant at all, the tables are well spaced out and there are different areas within the restaurant. We liked sitting on the left as you first go in, there is a little garden area with parasols over the top. There is a cat family that live in the garden there and we fed them each day. Again some people won't like them but they didn't pester people and if the people that do like them feed them then we thought it would keep them away from the people that didn't like them!
We ate in the Thai restaurant one night which was lovely, the hotel give you a credit towards your bill. It is quite pricey but the food is great so we didnt mind paying it at all.
The beach was lovely but some days the tide did seem to bring in leaves and seaweed etc. The hotel seemed to rake the sand around the sunbeds but not down on the waters edge' Other days the water was completely clear and the sand clean. We sat up near the beach snack bar as you could hear music from the bar and it was closer to the pool when we wanted a quick dip. The pool was lovely, just the right temperature and never seemed busy. The jacuzzi did always seem to have children in there, which the signs said was not allowed but no-one did anything about it.
We used the spa which was lovely, when you consider the surroundings and the fact you are in a 5* hotel we thought the prices were comparable to what you would pay at home for similar quality.
As it was our honeymoon we had high expectations and we were not disappointed, we would definitely go back again.

This hotel was selected in the main after reading the reviews which were not wrong. The hotel setting was idylilic. We stayed in room 1021 which was on the ground floor with a sea view through the gardens and putting green. The gardens were beautiful and well kept |The staff worked hard every day to keep both the gardens and beach clean despite a few winding days and rain trying to dictate otherwise. The rooms were always clean and wewere never without clean beach towles

We had originally booked half board but the hotel very kindly upgraded us to full board albeit we stuggled at lunchtime to eat. The buffets morning and evening were wonderful and we wanted for nothing. We dont normally do buffets but these were the best we have ever seen. As others commented the pancakes are well worth going to this hotel for and its little wonder we came home a few pounds heavier

Drinks are expensive but the local visit is a short bus drive away and drinks are an eighth of the price. We did not though have to buy any we were always kept well stocked up with water and our package provided us with 4 glasses of wine or beer or pop and 2 bottles of water a day albeit at meal times only. It is well worth taking these deals. We didnt go to the special buffets so we left having spent not a lot of money. The hotel catered for what you wanted and we saw a number of couples having meals prepared for them on the beach. Very romantic.

The staff worked extremely hard and provided an excellent service in the restaurants. THose people moaning about the staff must have a problem because we found them friendly and could fault nothing with the service they provided. Queency, Jennifer, Devi, were just a few that made our holiday so special.

The birds were amusing to watch and many would come and sit waiting for things to be left. There were many varieites around the hotel. I dont think I saw any guest complain about them beingin the restaurant and the hotel is clearly doing everything possible to reduce the nusiance.

The thing that we regret was not spending any time in the Spa. In the spa is a quiet area with a plunge pool. Its all in the shade. Gym is good.

The holiday was restful albeit when we go back we will probably stop in Dubai to break up the journey. We travelled Bham = Dubai - Maritius. Journey over by Emirates was very good with just a few hours wait. ON the way back we had a 7 hr wait which is not to be recommended. To make matters worse all the children seemed to have been put in the section we were sitting and many were howling for the 7 hr journey. So with no meal they ran out!!) and screaming kids the jorney back was crap.

The transfer to the hotel via Mauri tours was very good. The transfer back was by coach and one couple decided to be 15 mins late. We booked a boat trip though Mauri tours that journyed down the East Coast and to an island. It was a good trip but a little on the expensive side. It was disappointing that the travel rep did not have a price list. In the second week we bookeda trip to Quatre Bonn, Duty Free shops, The Hall of Fame and The Nature Reserve. We were disappointed that this was a shopping trip and we did not go to the Nature Reserve. On this trip we went to an asian shop that had some very good quality goods. We went to the Hall of Fame a glass recycling project which wasnt that interesting. Quatre Bonne Market you could have spent half a day walking around and there is a local bus that can be taken from just outside the hotel

As we have a few days of rain we went to Port Louis and Fleur en Flac. The ticket collectors on the buses were wonderful and always ensured you got off at the right place. Port Louis took about an hour and the cost 48 rupees each way. The bus station was just outside the hotel but the bus drivers would pick you up anywhere along the road. Local people were very friendly and albeit armed Police Officers stood by the banks at no time did we feel uncomfortable walking around the villages and town
There wasnt a lot to do in the evening and shops closed around 6pm musch to the disappointment of the husband but he loved to feed the Koi fish in the evenings. There were a number of shows but they didnt start until 945pm.

The boathouse and facilities were great. Plenty of things to try either here or around the hotel (bikes, tennis, mini golf, Library)

You dont need to take shampoo, conditionaer, soap, body wash as this is provided. UK travellers do need to take an adaptor. Dont need to take beach towels. Water is provided in the rooms as is a kettle with tea and coffee.

Laundry was a little on the expensive side but a washing line is provided in the bathroom.

Overall this was a wonderful holiday and we have no complaints Plenty of sun, food and relaxation so what more would you want

I booked this holiday through DREAM.COM. They were the cheapest. The service and help I got from this company was the best I have had for a long time anywhere. I would have no hesitation in going back to them for my next booking.

Will we go back - Yes

From the welcoming to Au revoir was fantastic. On arrival we where escorted to the bar area and welcomed with refreshing drinks. (The green stuff is very good). Special touches like the welcoming message on our bed and chocolates and biscuit bites where inviting. The hotel room have all the necessities, no need to pack your gown or slippers. The food was tasty and delicious; every night for dinner was a different theme. (Ladies I would suggest that you pack quite a few dresses for your stay). As a South African I could not bear paying so much for South African wine. Better to buy your wine from the Spar in Flic en Flac, close to the hotel. So much to do from reading to bike riding (can take the bikes into town), swimming, golf, water activities, Spa treatments (I think this was way too expensive, but very good) and so much more. The Hilton Staff really got the service part right, friendly and efficient! We are planning our next trip (with our kids). The birds can become a nuisance when you want to enjoy your meal, but I think we as people are to blame (probably been feeding the birds and they then expect this from all of us). Every evening the hotel had a local band or cultural performances by dancers to entertain the guest. A stroll on the beach after dinner is good exercise and relaxing at the same time. On our departure we where send of with a bottle of water, to make sure we keep cool on our 40 minute drive to the airport. Yes, the Hilton really thought of everything to make sure we had a memorable and enjoyable time.

Relaxed at the Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa, trying watersports or lazing on the Indian Ocean beach. The hotel is an hour’s drive from International Airport .

Wind down in one of 4 restaurants and 2 bars. Enjoy a romantic dinner in the gourmet Melanzane restaurant, or cocktails and the catch of the day at the Mauritius Hilton Resort & Spa’s Aqua Bar.

Enjoyed the pool complex, watersports, spa and fitness center, kids’ club and 3 floodlit tennis courts.

The hotel has 5 meeting rooms , a business center and wireless internet access in all rooms and public areas.i was in a Deluxe Room to a Junior Suite for a seating area with sofa.
