A last minute decision to take a weeks holiday in the sun for our family of 4, 2 boys aged 22 and 18. We wanted a warm, relaxing week somewhere beautiful, all inc. with a spa.
We arrived just after a cyclone, our plane was delayed by 8 hours as it had been grounded during the storm Then when over northern Italy we were diverted back to Charles de Gaul as the weather system had gone down in the cockpit. This meant we lost a day of our break, however when our all inc ran out at lunch time on the last day, the hotel did not charge us for drinks or lunch and let us keep a room until we departed, all without charge, we were very grateful.
We found staff extremely helpful and courteous, they couldn't do enough for us. Food and drinks could take a little while to arrive at lunch time, but for us this wasn't a problem. We found the food varied and plentiful, and the dessert table in particular excellent.
In our opinion the hotel is well located on the rocky outcrop where the eastern coastline curves, and a shady rocky corner joins one long white sandy beach to another. Temperatures were 30 degrees plus, so whilst holiday makers staying at hotels on the beach huddled together beneath umbrellas, we lay under shady pine trees and umbrellas. In our opinion we had by far the most beautiful spot. It was lovely to swim around the rocks by the hotel, the beds were fine and plentiful.
We didn't go to the fitness center however we made full use of the spa. We had several massages including sports and ayurvedic, and both sons had henna tattoos! There were a good selection of treatments to choose from.
We hired a speed boat and driver for 2 x 1.5 hours from the water sports kiosk, any longer and we would have burnt, even though we were constantly covered in factor 50! We all water skied and snorkled from the boat which was beautifully clean, and the driver gave us interesting information as we went up the coast.
This hotel is billed as a small boutique hotel, and that's an accurate description. I read other comments on this site prior to booking, and in my opinion the rating is correct. Evening entertainment changes nightly but we tended to go to our rooms fairly early. We didn't try the DVD's but there is a limited selection available from the desk. Internet access is patchy, but sufficient for us. Everything was kept clean and I liked the architecture of the hotel, and the beautiful views.
La Palmeraie was exactly what I expected - just perfect.
