“A little slice of heaven”
Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

I've never written a review for a trip before, but I've been so bowled over by the excellent service here I've felt compelled to share.
From the point of arrival, our every need has been thought of. We arrived sadly minus our luggage due to a delayed connection. The staff here made sure that we had all we needed whilst we waited for our bags. On check in we were given a refreshing drink and then taken to our rooms.
We are staying in a Prestige room. It is spacious, with a good sized bathroom. Everything is immaculate. In the evening our bed is turned down and flowers are placed in various patterns on it. A really lovely touch. A card is also left, giving info on the weather for the next day.
The food here is excellent. There is a wide choice at the breakfast buffet. The dinner buffet is even better. We have been spoilt for choice. The curries are by far the favourite. Truly exceptional. The pasta is also very good. The desserts are mini masterpieces. Small, delicate and stunningly formed. The staff in the main restaurant are extremely courteous and the service is outstanding. It is the little things that count, such as when returning to our table, finding the cutlery replenished and the napkin re folded in a different design. The staff are attentive, but not intrusive.
The staff in the cocktail bar are also polite and attentive. They are quick to anticipate your needs and requirements.
There are 3 main swimming pools in use on the complex. There are always sunbeds available at all of them. The pools are generally quiet and you can often be the only person swimming in them. The beach here is beautiful. Again there are plenty of sunbeds. Some reviews have said that the staff are slow to respond to the blue service flag on the beach, but we were served promptly.
The grounds look lovely here. Everything in its place. The staff clearly work hard here to maintain the gardens.
We came to the hotel expecting a high standard of service, but this expectation has been exceeded. We have been extremely impressed by the excellent staff, who work extremely hard to make sure our every need is met.
I'm due to get married at the Constance Ephelia in the Seychelles in July and as a result of my extremely positive experience here cannot wait until then!

Stayed one week at this 5 star hotel. The foyer is spectacular and the grounds are meticulously maintained. The staff are warm and very friendly happy to have a chat and engage with the guests at any time. We stayed on half board rate which included breakfast and dinner, both buffet style on most days. The food is ok, nothing spectacular particularly at breakfast, we noted lots of the hot food as been cooked en mass - instead of topping up frequently - they sit there drying up on the warming trays - this is particularly noticeable with the breakfast sausages - dry and almost inedible by the time we get to them at 9am. The breads are not great - not a lot to select from and they dont seem fresh. There are no local flavors or dishes represented at the breakfast buffet - this is a real shame and a missed opportunity - we can be eating breakfast anywhere in the world. Dinner buffet is much better and have better representation of the local cuisine. We also eat at the Deer Hunter one evening and both the food and the service was excellent! Make sure you reserve a dinner table at least a few days in advance.. lots of guest take a break from the nightly buffet and hence the restaurant is often fully booked 2 days ahead.
The rooms are well appointed but a little dated. Dark timbers everywhere and the bathroom while well equipped does not have that lux feel we expect from a 5 star resort. The other issue is the room is very warm even with the air-con on all day we had the blinds closed and all lights off - in the evening the in room temp is often around 26 degree c. We have tried everything to get the temp down without much success.. the hotel checked the unit twice and we had to sleep with the balcony door open all night - not a great idea in a warm climate with lots of mozzies. Hate to think what it would have been like in the height of summer.
Overall, the hotel is good but what lets it down are the room itself - which in my mind is not quite 5 star. However the rest of the experience we had was 5 star and that is what will get us to return. Belle Mare is a bit isolated but it is still a piece of true Mauritius and it is still paradise on earth.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top level gets too warm, ground floor rooms might be the best option.

We stayed at the Constance Belle Mare Plage for 3 weeks in May, previously staying at Constance Moofushi in Maldives and The Prince Maurice in Mauritius. The Belle Mare Plage for us stood out with its exceptional service, attention to detail and fabulous golf.
We initially stayed in a prestige room which was lovely and beach facing. With many thanks to Guito for the upgrade to a junior suite which was more spacious and more secluded.
The staff at BMP are exceptional in thier service and friendliness, they cannot do enough for you. Eileen and Afif who cleaned our room we so friendly, leaving gorgeous flowers on our bed, their attention to detail second to none.
The service on the beach and around the pool is fantastic, clean towels every day, Jeetoo(Mr Jack) and Ashok were always on hand to top up our drinks and clean our sun glasses. I only hope Mr Jack is still cleaning Mrs Jacks windows for his reward of a couple of phoenix.
The restaurants at BMP are exceptional. We mainly ate at the Citronelle, although this is a buffet service it is a la carte food. The service from Annabelle at breakfast to Jerome on an evening made our holiday. The food was out of this world. A huge thanks to all the chefs, however many stand out. Satish and Daniella make the best omelettes ever. On an evening you MUST try Sohan' and Jemungal's curries - outstanding. Kenny and Jonathan on the pasta. Then onto puddings, Kritz's and Rachel puddings - wow. We really hope he passed your exams Kritz.
We also ate at the dear hunter, again exceptional food, this was a set menu in beautiful surroundings. We also saw the dear pass whilst we were having our meal.
An extra special mention must be made to the staff at the blue penny. The manager Wesley we had previously met at Moofushi. He is the ultimate professional, his attention to detail is outstanding. The personal service he gave us was not only first class it made our holiday very special. The blue penny is a restaurant you must eat at, the staff and food are lovely, Tony the sommelier has a huge knowledge of wine and knows his stuff - trust him in your wine choices.
The staff in guest relations cannot do enough for you, every little detail thought out. Thank you to Campbell, Karuna and Kailash.
This hotel is beautiful with exceptional service and attention to detial. There are plenty of sun beds available either around the numerous pools or on the beach. No having to put your towels down to reserve a sunbed.
We were so impressed with the BMP we booked for 3 weeks next year whilst we were there. We have high standards in choosing our hotels in relation to accommodation and quality of food, this hotel was sensational for us. No matter which Constance hotel you stay at you will receive exceptional service. We cannot recommend this hotel enough. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you are staying in a presige room, room 922 is lovely. We stayed in a junior suite, one of the 3...

Just back from our second trip to this wonderful resort. We went to Mixed Pairs Golf tournament in 2009 and decided to return this year on our own. We were not disappointed, everything about this resort is superb. The staff are without doubt the best ever, customer care is excellent and the food in all the restuarants Is excellent. Free golf, free buggies (on Links), free water sports, quality of food far out weigh every negative comment about drink prices. You get what you pay for and you cannot expect supermarket prices in hotel of this quality. Pity it is so far away as we would go here twice a year! Always guaranteed to meet lovely people as everyone is happy.

We are very grateful for repeated visit and such a great review of your recent stay with us.

It is a pleasure to learn that after having spent some time with us as a part of a group, you have decided to return for relaxing time-alone on beach or on golf courses, as we may notice you are a passionate golfer.

We thank you for all compliments for the setting, food, the greens and the culinary part of your stay. We indeed believe that at our resort we offer best possible combination of value for money, with total resort experience and variety of choices.

We look forward to welcome you back for the third time and in the meantime wish you a great summer at home.

I stayed at this hotel for two weeks in May and it was an excellent experience. In short the hotel and grounds are immaculately looked after and the staff are, I would say, amongst the best that I have come across. The hotel is built along the beach rather than back from the beach so you are only a few minutes walk from the beach wherever you are. The sandy beach and the sea are excellent. I walked along the beach on either side, up to Le St Geran and also along long beach the other way and the sea here is by far the best with a nice sandy floor, ideal for playing in and swimming. There is a wide variety of free watersports and if you like this sort of thing you cannot go wrong here.

The food is good with two restaurants for lunch and dinner. There are buffets for lunch and dinner, with a good choice, especially at dinner, or you can go to the Deerhunter with a beautiful view over the golf course for a set 3 course lunch, no choice, or 4 course dinner with a choice of two main courses. I went full board and am glad I did as the prices do seem expensive. To give you an idea, the half bottle of house wine and small bottle of water which were included in my full board dinner were accidentally put on my bill so I know that the cost for these two items was about £14. The other a la carte restaurants I also consider expensive but you don't have to use them.

Belle Mare village is about a 40 minute walk away with just a few shops and a couple of supermarkets. Apart from here, if you want to go outside the hotel you will have to hire a car, get a taxi or go on an organised tour.

A few final general points. I went in May, the beginning of winter, so I got an excellent price on the hotel. I had been to Mauritius before but stayed on the west side. On the east side, where Belle Mare Plage is, there is a constant wind at this time of year which goes through into June, the west is sheltered so you don't get this. This can range from a breeze which is nice and keeps the temperature down to quite a strong wind which is not, When the wind does drop you realize just how hot the sun is so be careful, you could get burnt without realizing it. Also at this time of year there are no mosquitos, if you go in summer I have been told there are lots and the chances are you will get bitten.

Would I go again? Of course.

Our entire team will be glad to learn that you have truly enjoed your stay with us, in aspects of location, beach, service , room and the food. We indeed are very proud of our location on one of the longest beaches on the Mauritian coast, and combination of it with two beautiful golf courses just next to it.

Both summer and winter are very pleasant to pass with us - our summer gives a warm beautiful hide away from European cold, snow and fogs, whilst our winter - where temperatures very between 20 and 25 , are very pleasant as still with sun and fresh breeze, but without the heat of the cities in June - September.

We look forward to welcome you back to our or any other Constance resort.

Yours sincerely

I'd not been to Mauritius for 13 years and had a great stay last time at Le Touessrok so my expectations were high.My room was in block 900 tucked away in a corner which was disappointing as the hotel was not full.La Citronelle the main communal restaurant is like a big school canteen and is to be avoided which is a problem if you are on half or full board because your allowance for eating in the other hotel restaurants is 450 rupees which will get you a starter. That being said the food in the other restaurants was very good particularly in Spiaggio.
If you need connectivity you will spend your time in reception which is the only place which has WiFi.My in room "entertainment" reminded me of travelling around European hotels in the 80's as the only English channel is CNN and there is the Supersport channels.
Gym facilities are excellent as were the golf courses.
The staff get 5 stars though attracting attention on the beach is a problem despite the flag system.I'm not sure having someone knock at the door at 1015pm for the turn down service is ideal but after 2 nights of doing this they did get the message

Room Tip: Ask for a beach view and be further from the central reception area where the nightime cabaret is

We thank you for your detailed and honest feedback about your stay with us, highlighting positive things in your stay with us, and as well those that you see as points to improve.

Our team members will be grateful for the high score given to them, as they are of course the main point of every hotel. On the other hand, we regret that room location has not met you expectations. As this is very subjective point of the holidays, our Front Office team is always pleased to assist with room change, in case that originally allocated rooms does not prove to be the best choice for the holiday.

At Belle Mare we are proud of variety of restaurant choices, from main buffet in Citronelle for those who prefer such option, to the other three a la carte restaurant , all of various cuisine. For all of our guests who are on half board, we are pleased to offer a partial credit of 950 MRS per guest daily in order to enable them to taste all the options we are able to offer.

In order to improve our TV and entertainment services we are proud to confirm that as of June 2013 all of our rooms are equipped with Mini Mac Apple system, which provides guests with 46 TV channels, video on demand, radio stations, wi fi , Mac Air system, and hotel information.

Once again, we thank you for choosing us for your holidays and time taken to post your comments, and as you have enjoyed our beach and golf, we do hope to welcome you back to our resort or any other Constance property.

We stayed in the villas, for a family our size, very convenient and practical. our house butler, Nidhish was polite, attentive and was constantly cleaning up after us! Excellent! hotel is great, still one of the best, we have stayed here a number of times and if you want your own private family vacation, with your own secluded sanctuary, pool and "private beach" - the villas are the best option. Food and meals in general is very good, however, 2 nights in a row during dinner at the main restaurant we found some of staff - more so the younger ones, unresponsive, surly and slow - one on occasion our pre-dinner drinks arrive at the end of the main course after our wine. it is still nice to see some of the familiar faces happy and attentive - especially the "bird lady!". The Italian restaurant. at night is a must - excellent cuisine and great service. some observations, 1) the main shop at the hotel - I think you must have the option to put your purchase on your room account - not every on carries a wallet when they are in their swim shorts, 2) perhaps compost the flower the beds at other times other than morning, especially when the kids return back full of breakfast goodies ;-) Would we come back again? for the 5 time, yes - and we live in Mauritius!

Room Tip: Choose the villas
