We have just returned from the best holiday of our lives. A beautiful hotel, immaculately kept and gentle and helpful staff who will do anything to help you. If you complained about being here you obviously have very sad lives. It is just beautiful and go to the Deer Hunter at night for dinner, we saw the Java Deers as we were eating dinner overlooking the 18th green. They strolled in front of us and then two stags started rutting. What a privilege to witness that. We ate also at the Blue Penny Cafe - best food we have ever eaten. We did not eat at La Spaggia but that will happen next year. Everyone raved about it though. The main restaurant, La Citronelle was clean and lots to choose from. Italian, English, Asian, Mauritian, Indian food all available - all buffet style which meant you have to be on diets as soon as you get home.!! We spent most lunchtimes at La Kaze where were looked after by Boodhoo, Soobash, Ajay & Vinnaye. Lovely people and looked after us fantastically well. Great sense of humours. Chand and Jeeto (and Jeremy) on the beach were great and looked after us during the day with our drinks and food if you wished and of course with providing us with dry towels and great sunbeds in great positions. A special thanks to Mayveena who looked after our room and made my birthday very special. What a stunningingly beautiful looking lady. To Rai who looked after us in the bar before dinner - lots of laughs and great hospitality. To Mario, Levinson, Addish and the rest of the boys at the Legend and Links course for all the fun and entertainment. If you play golf you must enter the competition on Monday. Lots of fun and drinks and food afterwards at Symons Bar. The Mauritian people are incredibly friendly and made you feel very welcome. You certainly did not feel it was put on. Cannot highly recommend this place enough. Around every corner is another little surpise. We had three massages at La Spa Constance - fantastic. Thank you ladies. Go do some scuba diving with Raphael and Christoff. Amazing experience and I have lots of back problems but they looked after me so well. Nothing was too much trouble. The dives were amazing and I saw a turtle!! Belle Mare Plage is a must for anyone visiting Mauritius. People we spoke to have been going for 14 years. Says it all.

Room Tip: If you like swimming choose rooms by La Kaze or Indigo. Both quiet but ON the pool.

We stayed at the Belle Mare from 24th September to 9th October 2012. From the minute we arrived to the afternoon we were waved off to go to the airport we couldn't have been looked after any better. We chose the hotel because it had two golf courses and a beach front, we are both golfers but needed some R&R as well.

Our room was on the top (2nd) floor, we looked out onto one of several pools in the complex, also we could see the sea. There are some rooms which are on the beach front but they have footpaths in front of them so the occupants of the ground floor rooms have to put up with the possibility of people looking in. The rooms have lots of space, a walk in wardrobe, separate toilet, bathroom with bath, shower and two sinks. The bed was huge. There was a sitting area with a double settee and two chairs inside, TV, kettle and fridge. On the balcony there was another double settee and two chairs as well as a table with two more chairs. It was all in good condition and very comfortable. The twice daily room service was very good. The complementary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were gorgeous. I managed to break the blind in our room and it was fixed within a few hours with no fuss what so ever.

You are frequently scooped up by a buggy driving up and down the main path, but really there isn't anything that isn't easily walked too.

We played golf nearly every day. We played on the Legend course twice. You can walk to it in a couple of minutes from your room. It has a lot of water hazards so take a lot of spare balls. You can buy balls there if you run out, we bought two bags from people selling them as we played the course, nice balls and cheaper than at home. You have to pay for a buggy (about £30) or hire a caddy (£10-£15, depending on skill level). The caddies are helpful in advising on line and hazards. The rest of the time we played on the Links course which you have to get a shuttle bus to. The bus runs back and forward all day, we never had to wait more than 15 mins for one. On the Links you get a buggy for free. The course has less water than the Legend and is easier for the higher handicapper. The staff at both courses were extremely helpful. Buggies come with a cool box with water and beer etc. to help you get round. Water was free, beer etc. had to be paid for. There were competitions during the week, they were a nice way to meet other golfers and you had a free drink on the afternoon when results were given out. The hotel will move your clubs between the golf courses as you need them so there is no need to store them in your room.

We ate mainly in the Citronelle buffet restaurant. Breakfast buffet had a wide variety of foods, remember the clientele are not all British so you get an exciting variety of options to choose from. If a full english is your preference you will be disappointed, although you can make up something approaching it! For the evening meal in the Citronelle there was always roasts cooked beautifully, curries, Chinese and Italian options plus a large salad bar. The sweets on offer were divine. The other eating places offer waiter service menus, some are included in your half board, some incurring an extra cost. It really depends on your preference.

There is entertainment on each evening, mainly small singing groups. We didn't tend to stay long so can't really comment on them.

The staff throughout the hotel were superb, all well trained, smiley and friendly.

There is a fitness room with a wide range of kit in it. There is also a Spa for a bit of pampering.
The beach is lovely, there is no need to rush down and bag a bed, there are plenty for everyone. Towels are provided by staff at kiosks on the beach or round the pools. The free water sports and glass bottom boat trips are well used.

The extras (lunch time food, poolside drinks, wine) you have to buy are expensive by UK standards, and they add 15% tax on top of the prices, so you need to factor that in when budgeting. We asked our taxi driver to stop on the way to the hotel from the airport at a supermarket to buy water and some wine, he was happy to do it and it saved us a bit of money.

There were many people there who had been several times before. Would we go back? Definitely!

Following our first visit to Mauritius last year when we stayed at the Heritage Awali we knew we would return and return soon. The Heritage experience was simply wonderful and high on the list of our hotel selection this time around. We were returning with our friends this time who were to be experiencing Mauritius for the first time, and so after a lot of internet surfing and searching for our hotel choice to stay, we found the Belle Mare Plage and thank goodness we did. The Belle Mare Plage is similar in looks to the Awali but a little larger and benefits from a more appealing beach. The free sporting options on the beach (especially the Hobbicats) are great for passing the odd hour or two and the water skiing boys are very patient and helpful. The food side of things is A1 not only quantity and quality but also due to the fact that the staff are wonderful from morning to night. The Chefs, the waiting on staff, and the table clearing boys and girls are all conciderate and thoughful to your needs, well done to them. The omelett station chefs each morning gave me excellent service for fourteen days and produced omeletts that looked and tasted perfect. The reception team including the shuttle bus boys that provided excellent and consistant service to get me and my friend to the golf course every other day or so also get a mention in despatches for their over and above service. The golfing side of the holiday could take this review over in itself but i wont bore you, shall we say just go and play the links course with a buggey and see for your self, you will be talking about it for years!!!
Take a day boat trip to the various highlights of the area, check out V+V Vicky for this for both a great service and price and one other thing,he is a very nice person to deal with.
The hotels deerhunter restaurant has everything to make your holiday very special and following your fun ride to the restaurant on the many buggeys that are there to transport you to and from the various facilities, a great time will be had, also this restaurant is available to you on the half board basis. During your meal, look for the heard of deer to make their nightly appearance behind you, all floodlit and majestic looking, i guarantee you will love it. Now the negatives so to speak...The overall dress code of an evening is elegant casual and thats fine and 90% of guests take the trouble to comply but i dont think that this message is getting through to places like South Africa and the Far East, maybe the restaurant managers could advise these guests as they enter?, plus after checking i discovered that the words 'please' and 'thank you' are still in the South African vocabulary but they just dont bother to use them to the staff!! Thats the negatives dealt with and so to close, our two week holiday was so good that I felt that we had been away for months, my advice to you is get it booked and enjoy your time there, you will not be dissappointed.

Room Tip: First floor between the beach and the tennis courts.

This is a great hotel with good views and excellent staff. The food is very good although breakfast could be improved. We enjoyed our stay at Belle Mare and would certainly return and recommend to our friends. We are already planning a return next April. Our special thanks go to Chef Nicole who was very helpful in the restaurant. You are fabulous Nicole! Thank you.

We visited this hotel for a week from the 29 September 2012 to the 6 october 2012. We were made to feel welcome and they were ready for us although there was some confusion on whether we had booked for double or single rooms. We are 4 brothers so had single rooms. The hotel is well appointed and well situated for the golf courses in the area. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate so ate every night in the buffet style restaurant. The food was excellent but the service was slow (and a touch surly) except for the night the General Manager was walking around!!

The rooms are well appointed but it is here that the lack of attention to detail was evident. The side light in my room had the knob missing, the kettle cord was not long enough to reach the plug so had to put the kettle on the floor to boil water. The plug in the bath was broken and, despite reporting it, it was still not repaired when I departed.

Room service also needs to attend to the detail. The tissues were finished and was not replaced for 2 days and then only when I asked for them. The bath oil was not replaced pr re filled and my coffee mug was not cleaned one day. These are all small issues but a 5 star hotel of this calibre and with so many excellent features to it, was let down on these small attention to detail issues.

Just got back from Belle Mare. Everything better than we hoped for. Hotel staff couldn't be more helpful, food was fabulous, invited by hotel for our anniversary to Spiaggia Restaurant by the beach, food and service amazing, including surprise cake! Lots to do at the hotel at no extra charge. If you take your golf clubs, its free to play on the Links course. Legends charge for a golf cart. Both courses are fantastic. Both club houses on the 18th are a fantastic place to have a cool beer. The beach is 2km of pure white sand with Palm trees, sea is crystal clear.

For us, the highlight of the holiday was hiring a boat with 2 crew, Robin and Enrique from VV Vicky boats. Google Vicky Boats. We left around 9.30, cruised down the coast, they pointed out everything along the coast. Went snorkelling, Had lovely BBQ served to us overlooking the Indian Ocean. Visited waterfalls, would recommend having guide to take you to the top of the waterfall for a swim in the fresh water.

Would recommend this hotel if you are considering Mauritius. Already looking forward to next year!

Room Tip: Ask for sea view.
