Just returned from 14 days of paradise even with three kids (9,7 & 5). Basically agree with all the recent reviews i.e. there are a lot of kids in school holidays since the hotel markets itself as family friendly and it definitely is. The kids club is good and there are plenty of other activities for them particularly in the water sports bit. In our second week the hotel was full, but even then it was not too crowded. Food is good, although the buffets get a bit repetitive in the second week. Indochine is very good. Drinks are defintely "international" prices but not riduculous. Probably best to stock up on some duty free for the room fridge on your way out. There is a duty free shop in the arrivals part of the airport.

The hotel itself is magnificent. Very well designed and all the rooms are good. We had interconnecting ones close to the beach which were perfect. The real stand out feature of the hotel is the staff who are first class. They are incredibly helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Worth doing a boat trip to Isle Aux Cerfs and also the hotel has its own 7 seater car which you can hire with a driver for the day. Quite a lot to see and do around the island.

This is definitely the best beach hotel we have been to with kids and certainly beats the Carribean. If your kids can manage the 11 hour flight it is a must. If you do not have kids then go outside school holidays, it will be just as good.

Just returned today after having spent 10 days at Beau Rivage with my wife and 3 little girls (8,4 and 3). We thought it was absolutely great on all counts including the food, beach, pool and service.

A few points in no particular order:

1) Kids club is great - during our stay, there was a large influx of kids which meant our children made lots of friends. The staff there are incredibly helpful and we ended up using it a lot more than we planned - mainly because the children loved it and far preferred it to our company.

2)Restaurants - Rive Gauche is very good (we only had one bad meal) but can get a bit monotonous despite the buffets and changing menus. The mediterranean restaurant is a good alternative ( and not expensive) as is doing room service using the rive gauche menu as a starting point. The latter works particularly if you have bought a bottle or two of wine or champagne in duty free!

On the wine front,it is expensive (at 7 euros per glass) but most of the time that is the only expense of your meal. To put it in perspective, its not too different from the price you would pay in an upmarket london restaurant.

3) Pool loungers disppear early - this was the only annoying bit of the holiday for us as it meant that to ensure you got the front line loungers you had to be germanic and put your towels on prior to 8am.

4) Breakfast is absolutely excellent. You can be as healthy or unhealthy as you want and most of the time you will feel like skipping lunch.

5) We did the trip to the Naiade Resorts private island by speed boat. This was good but frankly the quality of the beach and the snorking/ glass bottom boat is not dramatically different from what you get in front of the hotel. Do it for the speed boat ride more than anything else.

6) Saw 2 mosquitoes in our room over the 10 days. Both pretty dopey and easy to kill. None of our family got bitten inside our outside. We used a mixture of Deet and repellent after sun. Our experience therefore was that mossies were not a problem but we avoided the inland tours just to be safe.

7) You can do horse riding on the beach. Well worth it.

8) Unlike caribbean, the hawkers are completely unintrusive. My wife bought some simple beachware and we did the horse riding but you wouldn't even be aware of it otherwise.

9) The boathouse is well worth using. Water skiing is fun and free. The glass bottom boat is also good fun particularly if you remember to bring some food for the fish. Other activities including snorkelling also looked good although we didn't end up doing them.

10) I don't know if everybody sticks to it but their official policy of the tipping pool makes life a lot easier. Basically you don't give tips to individuals directly but you simply provide a donation to a central tipping pool at the end of the holiday. Means you can literally live on the resort without using cash at all during your stay. Hopefully its not too naive to hope they really distribute the pool to the staff as a bonus.

11) Weather was great. When it rains ( in our case on 2 afternoons for a couple of hours) you can retire either to the bar or to your room. It helped that the rooms are spacious and have 3 channels of continuous sport! Most of the time the only concern with the weather was ensuring the sun cream was strong enough.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights for our honeymoon and we couldn't really fault the place. The staff were excellent and made you feel at home and the food was superb - it was diferent every night, either a la carte or buffet.

The only fault I can find with the hotel is its location. It is in a fairly quite secluded area of Mauritius and every night's entertainment will be in the hotel itself. It woul acualy be worth yor while going full board instead of half board becuase the chances are you ould be in the hotel most of the day.

Also a bit of advice to people who want to go on the boat trip to Ile Aux Cerfs. The tour companies at the Hotel overcharge for all the tours. My wife and I went into Belle Mare the nearby village and booked the trip through one of the independent companies (I think it was called Paaniman Tours, you can't fail to find it in Belle Mare since Belle Mare is a very smll village) and I could honestly say it was the best day out during our holiday.

The trip involved a trip around the east coast, some snorkelling and swimming, visiting a waterfall and then going to the island Ile Aux Cerfs. The people on the boat trip were so incredibly nice and friendly and really went beyond the call of duty to make you feel welcomed. By way of example they would dive for sea urchins and serve them as a starter for lunch, we actually had lobster for lunch and there woud be endless drinks.
