We have just returned from a week long honeymoon at LUX Belle Mare and could not wait to write a review for this amazing place. If you plan to have a relaxing, luxurious and absolutely stunning vacation, this is it!
The room was excellent, the staff was very helpful and the property is one of the best in Mauritius along the white sands and clear waters of the east coast.
We went for the all inclusive package which helped us enjoy it even more ;).
The experience was just fantastic and we would highly recommend it to everyone.
Special thanks to Eon and Jun at the front desk, Vijay at the Bar and Sachin who helped us with a mesmerizing Honeymoon dinner at the beach!

I just come back home now from a great holiday in LUX BELLE MARE in Mauritius.
and I am not exaggerating when I say that this structure is one of the best well managed hotels that I visited in my life around the world, from all points of view. At Belle Mare I met and observed an attentive, helpful and professional staff, from reception up to the waiters in the restaurants, from the staff on the beach up to the rooms cleaners. I wish to mention the nice welcoming at the moment of check-in with Andrei, a Russian guy working here from 2 years, very attentive and helpful. Also Guilliano, working at the General Office, made the best to satisfy all my inquiries. General Manager of Hotel, Mr. Ashish Modak, made me feeling as at home, and used to make all possible to let me enjoy all, at the best.
The Hotel boasts a nice beach, maybe the best of Mauritius
The Hotel offers a good program of events, entertainments, concerts and traditional shows. The nature and ideal location make this hotel a lovely place for a perfect holiday.
Thanks to LUX Belle Mare for excellent vacation!!!

I will start off by saying we have been here for 12 nights and have 6 nights left before we leave this beautiful hotel on this paradise island.

Rooms
We are staying in a newly refurbished junior suite and it is a lovely and spacious room with a walk in wardrobe and very large bathroom, well decorated and always very clean.

Service & staff
It is the staff at this hotel that make it so special, they literally can not do enough for you to make your stay nothing short of perfect. Always so friendly and greeting by name gives a personal touch. We have to give a special mention to a few staff in particular but they are all so good it almost feels a little unfair. Amlesh in particular is a great asset to the hotel, he puts our beach towels out everyday and always keeps us hydrated throughout, even cleaning our sunglasses! Also gave good advice about places to visit and advised us to go to Flacq on either Sunday or weds as these are the days of their local market. Roopesh is also worth mentioning, he is the manager of East restaurant and his kind and gentle way immediately sets the tone for what he ensures will be a perfect evening, nothing is too much trouble. The concierge's were really helpful (especially Goppee) and arranged our visit to the safari park to see the lions and our car hire in just a couple of phone calls and we paid relatively reasonable prices for both to our surprise. Also Ramess and Rahul run a very tight ship and are always welcoming, Dave, Sanjeev and all the bar staff are really good and make a mean strawberrys and cream cocktail.

Restaurants
Cafe Rouge
If you are due to stay here soon you will be pleased to know the beach bar & restaurant is completed and well worth the wait, with a cool vibe, very modern furnishings, outstanding menu and superb beach front location, it is a romantic and chilled out retreat on an evening with a large lounge area, and a casual relaxed bar & restaurant by day.

We have eaten both lunch and dinner at beach rouge as it is now called and have been blown away by the choice on the menu and service received, although the launch was behind schedule, Rahul the restaurant manager and the head chef have a restaurant to be very proud of. The rest of the hotel has a very Asian cuisine so this restaurant really gives the extra bit of variety with lots of choices of steak including tenderloin, rib eye, sirloin etc, chicken, lots of fish dishes, lots of pasta dishes and 2 pages of choice of pizza and incase the 2 pages of choice of pizza wasn't enough you can instead make your own by choosing from a list of ingredients. There is also a nice selection of starters and desserts. As with everything at this hotel it's not just about quantity its about quality and it feels like every meal has been lovingly prepared and oozes quality in both produce and preparation.

East restaurant
East is also a favourite of ours, the menu is Thai, Japanese and Chinese with a wide range of choice for all 3, the tenderloin in teriyaki sauce is really good and so is the sushi, but in all honesty every dish we have had so far in East has been wonderful, and when we arrive Roopesh always greets us by saying 'welcome home, it is good to see you both again Mr & Mrs Goodman-Williams'. The only negative about East is that when we arrived it was in a tucked away location perfect for the romantic atmosphere of east, now senses is in that location and i am not sure why management decided to change it, but we would like to see it back in its original location (minor point).

Senses
We have only visited once but had a pleasant meal, Indian cuisine, nice but would prefer to dine in cafe rouge and east, but have nothing negative to say about senses.

The kitchen
The kitchen is the main buffet restaurant and serves breakfast and dinner (sometimes lunch). The restaurant is very nice and doesn't feel like the majority of buffet restaurants, with tables having wine buckets and such attentive waiting staff it gives it a different feel. The breakfast is extensive with traditional English breakfast, egg and omelet stations, cereals, fruit, a vast aray of pastries and even an oriental breakfast section, can't fault anything. Dinners are also very nice with a good selection and made for very enjoyable evenings.

All inclusive
We are on an all inclusive package and it's well worth it, with local and some international brand alcoholic drinks included and a comprehensive selection of wines. We were also pleasantly surprised to not have to pay a supplement for quality cuts of steak. On one of the buffet nights they also had oysters and sea urchin which was really good.

Boat house
The hotel also offer a lot of free water sports including water ski-ing, also a snorkelling trip and glass bottom boat ride. The main negative about this hotel would be the water sport staff, they seem to be on a different page to the rest of the staff, they can be a little aloof, come across abit lazy and tend to just grunt at you. They also seem to be very dis organised. My wife waited 40 minutes to go water skiing as they couldn't remember who booked in 1st so just let whoever shouted the loudest go next. The only shaded area to wait it near the beach hut and if you wait up there you will never get your turn so you have to wait in the sun which is a bit much for 40 minutes. I would suggest an area of shade to be created nearer the beach and some chairs to form a clear waiting area rather than everyone scattered about.

General
The management are currently making some changes to the hotel, all which seem good apart from the previously mentioned change in location for East and also the new bar furniture isn't very in keeping with the serene feel to the hotel with bright pink and orange chairs (we preferred the old furniture) as this feels a little like a kids birthday party (another minor point and down to personal taste). Also they have taken away the bar stools which were really nice to socialize at the bar and interact with the friendly bar staff, this is a shame.

Some of the really good changes include a new ice cream parlour, bigger and better than before, with 16 different flavours of home made ice cream, sorbet, home made ice lollies and a slush puppy maker. The beach restaurant is another great change but we did notice the finishing in the toilets have been a bit rushed, which is a shame as they are lovely toilets, this hotel is all about attention to detail so hopefully the management will go back and touch up in a few areas to make it perfect.

Also look out for the messages in a bottle on the beach giving away free spa treatments and the stocked bar that appears around the hotel for you to take the goodies inside. Not all guests are all inclusive so we would leave the bar drinks for the guests on non all inclusive packages.

It is also worth mentioning how clean the hotel in General is, we have only seen 2 bugs during our stay as the hotel has discreet bug traps everywhere.

Cafe lux
Cafe lux is a really nice touch, the hotel roast their own coffee, which is excellent. Cafe Lux is a great place to relax with coffee and homemade cakes.

Red phone box
There is also a phone box where you can call home for free including mobiles. I didn't use it as face times through the ipad with the hotel wi fi instead, but a really nice touch.

Spa
We haven't visited the spa yet, but looks lovely with jacuzzi and sauna. Can't wait to try it.

Summary
We haven't had the pleasure of meeting the general manager yet but hopefully we will get the opportunity before we leave to congratulate him on such a wonderful hotel, we have already recommended to a friend who is booked in to stay for 2 weeks for her honeymoon next sept and we know they will have a great time, as will anyone who has the pleasure of visiting this wonderful resort.....enjoy....

We were there for three days before doing an organised tour which ended at Belle Mare again for four days. When we returned, it felt like coming home. We loved the hotel, the staff and the beach. We thought that Lux Grand Gaube had the best natural scenery but Belle Mare was where we felt most welcomed.

We were in the most basic rooms on both occasions but the large bathroom, walk in wardrobe, sitting area and enormous bed were all we could have wished for. Our first room overlooked the garden and our second, the pool but they were both great.

The staff were wonderful, starting from reception who arranged for us to have breakfast and then a shower room so we could freshen up and change when we arrived at 7.30 am (silly BA flight times). We then moved to loungers by the pool where we had soft towels put out for us, our sunglasses polished, and drinks fetched, all with a smile and lovely welcoming attitude. The restaurant and bar staff were equally welcoming, we didn't find a single member of staff who were less than perfect. We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary there the first time and they brought us a lovely chocolate cake at the end of our meal in Senses. That was great, but when we returned ten days later, they remembered our names and it felt very special.

The only downside to our visit was that there was construction work going on at The Beach restaurant. The noise was kept to a minimum and we were so relaxed that we tolerated it. This restaurant and bar should be open by now and we were delighted to meet Pete who was designing cocktails for the bar and to act as his guinea pigs with tastings.

The food was amazing from the fresh fruit and wide variety at breakfast, through the wonderful lunches to the high quality buffets (and I really don't like buffets) or a la carte restaurants. We had an Asian Tapas meal in the East restaurant, at a supplement, and it was fantastic. My favourite, however, was Senses.

Finally, the extra touches that make the hotel so special. We never found a message in a bottle but we enjoyed looking. We were at the Cafe Lux every morning for our coffees and we loved the designs they made on our flat whites. Many thanks to Wayne, the gorgeous travelling coffee maestro who explained so much about coffee. We also loved the ice creams (and sweeties) which we usually had as a dessert after lunch. Pineapple and chilli was a flavour too far for us but all the other ones we tried were lovely.

Room Tip: We were happy with both rooms we stayed in.

We've stayed at LUX Maldives twice and decided to stay at their Belle Mare property having been treated so well.

However, they haven't quite managed to embed the same levels of service at Belle Mare.

The refurbished room was lovely. But staff seemed to think about what their bit of the process is rather than put the customer first.

Small but annoying issues included the receptionist forgetting to cancel my diving so was woken up whilst ill to find out why I hadn't turned up, 15 mins wait to get a tea at breakfast (we had finished breakfast before drinks arrived on day two), plates not cleared during buffet service, security calling to say we needed to move the car because it was too big for the space, reception reciting a price for extending check out by three hours even though the resort was only 80 per cent occupancy. We had a call to say some sparkling wine was being brought to our room on the last night but it never arrived.

Language can be a barrier too but we were relaxed about that.

However, the management do know how to turn a compliant into a compliment. After the first complaint, Raj, one of the duty managers became our contact. When we had these little issues, he made sure we were looked after. We were then spoilt and almost felt a little embarrassed that everyone suddenly knew our names and looked after us with an AIB package.

If these little things are resolved and staff trained up a little more and once the building work stops, it will be a lovely resort - they may get to be as good as their Maldives resort.

The beach is fairly narrow but amongst the best in Mauritius (overall the beaches aren't amazing on the island). Diving is excellent and sites only five mins in a speed boat. Th Le diving highlight was sitting on the ocean floor and watching eagle rays glide overhead and then moving into an area with 100's of king fish all around you.

Thanks Raj for everything you did to get our holiday back on track.

It was the second time we spent our holidays in the LUX Belle Mare. This hotel and the resort itself are one of the best we have seen. We can recommend it to our best friends.
During the last holidays we could find out the good quality of the villa. It was a perfect stay. All of the staff, including Mr. Suren Maudhoo and the members of the management were warm and friendly and ready to help. They would greet you with a smile the hole day.
The two butlers, we had, were also very friendly and if you wished something in the next few moments it was served.
This holidays were the best we ever had had. we surely come back next year.

Room Tip: Rooms in the south side are quieter. Junior suits are very good. But all the best are the villas.
