“Modern, Contemporary hotel that will cater for all!”
Reviewed June 20, 2011

I recently stayed at this new hotel on Mauritius during business travel. The hotel really is a breath of fresh air on the island and doesn't copy the usual resort style that has been done over and over again.

From the massive arrival lobby to the restaurants, bars and rooms, everything has a fresh open and airy feeling to the whole hotel. Most of the public areas consist of open pavilions with modern furniture and fresh colours. Really creates a modern relaxed feeling to everything.

The rooms also are light and modern and quite big for a hotel of this size. All amenities are in the rooms, and I especially like the free Wi-Fi and the coffee machine in the rooms, seeing as I was there on business.

The main pool is massive (1400m²) and located next to the beach bar area where you can also sit and dine during the day or night. The infinity pool is more beautiful, but only usuable on nice days when the wind isn't blowing too much.

What I do like about this hotel is that 4 out of the 5 restaurants are included in the DB&B price, so you can choose in the evenings what you feel like. italian, mediterranean, asian etc. I especially liked Chopsticks (the asian / noodle restaurant). The jasmine tea served during dinner time is wonderful and the food was delishes.

Apart from the hotel there is also the sports centre which houses the gym, kids, teens club as well as tennis courts, climbing walls and really everything imaginable for a teen/kid. The gym is large & I enjoyed all the equipment in the gym. Probably one of the bigger gyms I have seen at resorts of this calibre.

The resort is very new, and we did hear and see contractors still working on the hotel site, but I suppose that will be there for a few more months to rectify everything. Overall a very fresh, modern hotel that I hope I'll be able to visit for leisure in the future.

Long Beach is superb in almost every way, it is having a 'soft' opening at the moment and the only thing missing is the atmosphere created by a full hotel. This hardly detracted though, we knew what to expect having been only just finished - there were several maintenance and snagging crews about but they were hardly noticeable and will soon be gone.
The hotel is a Piazza style with bar and restaurants overlooking a lovely area, tiled and set with palm trees and little seating areas - the design all through from rooms to restaurants is very modern with top end materials and fittings.
A few comments on what we found - likes and dislikes:-
Restaurants - very good food, the Japanese, chinese and main restaurant - Le Marche were the nicest - the italian was not liked due to poor menu (no meat!!) and a slightly surly waiter. The Le Marche had either a buffet or set menu - both were very good but we preferred the set menu - one night there was a seafood bisque, quite the best any around us had ever had- stunning.
Bars - a pool bar and main bar - we did think they are going to be way too small when the hotel fills up - drinks prices ok - around £9 for a cocktail and £7 for a beer and house wine.
Rooms - Not all the same but fitted out very well and lovely crisp bed linens ( changed every day) and a great shower. Only dislike was 2 entrances into the bathroom but no doors!! The loo was in a cubicle but not completely opaque glass - a lot won't like this but some rooms did have doors, according to others we met.
Beach
Our big disappointment as we like to snorkel, is was too shallow and not good - we have been spoilt by the Maldives. The rest was fine, long sandy walks and rocks to scramble over, good water sports but limited swimming areas.
Pools
These were great -an infinity pool at a higher level with great views over the beach and a very large freeform pool with good areas for kiddies, little islands for relaxing on and very good sunbeds and parasols. Supposedly heated but they were freezing!!
We did a couple of trips and hired a taxi through the Hotel, which was reasonable, but the best trip by far was a photo safari found in a magazine handed out at the airport. The 'reps' trips are way too expensive - almost double what you can get by asking around.
The Golf at Le Touessrok is very good and a good trip out with great rates. about £50 from Long Beach for a round and all transportation.
To sum up:-
The best - modern hotel really going places, enthusiastic staff and good food.
Worst - the trip from the airport on the coast road - about 1hr and stomach churning!
biggest niggle - the house wine was poured by hand and not measured out - vast inconsistencies to how much you got, a word with food and beverage manager soon got a result though!!

I've been to a few hotels in Mauritius now but as soon I turned into the hotel complex, I sensed that Long Beach was going to be something different; something new. Before I arrived at the main lobby area, I had already gathered a sense that this place was going to be unique.
Surrounded with a vast array of flora and fauna and peppered with contemporary sculpture, Long Beach offers more than an incredible 700 metre beach. In fact, it's more of a 'hub' for whatever you want!
'Fresh' - I think from it's design. The way Long Beach has been thought and mapped out. It just works! The heart of Long Beach is focussed on it's Piazza. Here's where you'll find all the bars/restaurants. I was amazed to learn that they're connected by a series of underground tunnels, giving easy access for the staff only. Facilities then spread from here out towards pool areas (main pool with its own bar), until eventually you reach the accommodation. Rooms are stretched away from the centre, therefore offering a quiet location wherever you are. I had a Superior Beachfront room (all located on ground level) with direct access to the beach. Rooms are equipped with UK, 3 pin-plug sockets - which was just as well as I had forgotten my adapter.
There's something for everyone here. For the younger ones - kids & teens are entertained from their individual clubs. For those who are more active - there's a complete activity centre, near the fully equiped gym (archery, cycling, football, jogging, tennis, yoga and evening a climbing wall and many more). There are cabanas around the pool areas - great for couples and honeymooners. A whole range of watersports are available directly from Long Beach's boathouse.
Nightlife is focussed in/around the Piazza area. At one end, there's Bombora nightclub while at the other is 'Shores' (cocktail and lounge bar). The hotel frequently hosts live entertainment, consisting of local bands, singers & dancers to acrobatics.
I found all the hotel staff so, so friendly. All of them were happy to help with any query or point me in the right direction.
So overall, would I go back? Absolutely!
Is there anything I could pick fault with? Not really - just that the hotel is so new some of the plants need to establish themselves.
I honestly came away as if I'd just discovered a new toothpaste!

I stayed here for 4 nights on business from 21st-25th May and was very impressed with the facilities offered. The hotel had just recently opened, and although the Spa was not quite finished, all the other facilities were up and running.

The lobby is very funky, modern and almost Mediterranean in styling, with a real feeling of space, invigorating a relaxed feel upon arrival.Unlike some 5* hotels, it is not stuffy or pretentious and the relaxed vibe to the hotel continues throughout.
I stayed in a large Superior Beach Front room which was directly on the beach, with its own terrace.Perfect place to watch the sunsets!

Room facilities were good with Ipod docking station and massive 42" tv with a good choice of International and English speaking stations. The free Wifi was a real bonus and internet connection was good at all times. It was nice to have a premium tea/coffee making machine as well.

The long sandy beach was very easy to access and the watersports centre was well managed, offering a good choice to choose from , at reasonable prices.Snorkelling from the shore was possible, and you did not have to venture far to see a great variety of fish, although there did seem to be a fair amount of seaweed at times.

Local fishermen were actually standing in the waters off the beach everyday, but this did not spoil my enjoyment of the beach area.Local beach vendors were few and far between, and were always polite and actually did take no for an answer.

Shores and Tides Bars well well stocked with a good cocktail menu to choose from.Shores in particular had a real "Cafe Mambo" vibe to it, with soft Ibiza style music playing in the evenings, and big comfy sofas to lounge in.

Large freeform pool had lots of areas to relax in although my favourite was the infinity pool on the terrace overlooking the ocean. They even had in pool jacuzzis, which were very effective and not just gimmicky.

It was also nice to be offerred two beach towels without having to ask.....nice touch!

Food quality throughout all the restaurants was of a high standard and service levels were very good. Can recommend Hasu the a la carte restaurant, and best restaurant at the resort in my opinion.

The Piazza where all the restaurants are located was a great spot to watch the evening entertainment, and provided a real central focus to the resort.

All in all, a high quality 5* modern resort, that wll appeal to young couples, honeymooners and families alike, and maybe even older couples who are young at heart.

I stayed here with fellow travel colleagues in May. The hotel is brand new and the furnishings and furniture are immaculte. The rooms are spacious, cool and have evrything you could need. the piazza dining and entertainment area is great as it creates a communal space for you to make new friends and feel part of the hotel community. the staff are helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
The beach is beautiful with plenty of room to sunbathe. The water sports centre offers many motorised and non motorised sports to suit everybody. I would recommend this hotel for weddings (you can choose where to get married from several location), honeymoons, groups and couples. A 5 star property with a relaxing and comfortable ambience.
