From the moment we arrived we arrived at the island we were stunned by the beauty and how calm everything seemed. My wife didn’t know where we were going and was amazed as the island approached in view and then by our Ocean villa, the pool and Jacuzzi with out door seating area was picture perfect to the brochures. Pure paradise.
Our villa was hidden away in corner from the main walkway which made it even quieter and the front garden you can say leading up to the ocean was very large. With a table outside the villa and then a hammock further up followed by an enclosed area. The main room is very nice where bed looks out towards the ocean. The villa had a tv and cd player but we never used them in our 5 day stay! The bathroom is open to the outside but turning on the fan will reduce the heat if your worried, the outside shower was fantastic. The Jacuzzi was incredible and we sat in there each night after dinner relaxing while looking at the stars. The wifi station is in each villa, but it does manage to reach out to the beach and other public areas. The whole villa is very private and large enough, its just magical.
Only 20 minutes away from Male Airport which is perfect to get away from the capital but not far that it will take you ages to make it back for your return flight. You can walk around the island in 10 minutes or so but even when we stayed it was almost full we felt like we had so much privacy as you very rarely come across people. The beach is lovely all around, in some areas it is getting washed away but work is being done to protect the beach. In our area there was plenty of beach and the water was shallow till quite far out. The bar on most nights was very quiet but that was great for us, I had a shisha one night on the beach infront of the bar which was an amazing experience.
Well what can I say, the food was just unbelievable. Lets start from the breakfast , everything you could ask for was there in the breakfast, no rush and the juices were very tasty. Lunch was buffet out under the palm trees, but this was not let down, a vast amount of choice and always meat of the bbq was excellent for me. My wife loved that fact that one day there was dahl served as we were missing home food. The dinners are set menu and the courses keep on coming, each dish is cooked to 5* quality and you do really feel looked after. The dining in the dark is very romantic and in the warm air it feels perfect.
As part of our honeymoon package we received an 30mins couple session which was quick basic lesson, this was enough to get us to book a longer package for 2 hours. The massage was great and the body scrub was great as well, as I had never been to a spa before my wife told me afterwards it had been done very well. They do the couple packages in such a way that its only you two in the rooms so you don’t need to feel shy that others are watching you.
This was the highlight of the whole stay, picked up just before sunset we were taken by our private speedboat to a sandbank about 20 minutes away, we even passed some dolphins on the way there, the sandbank is yours for 3 hours, as the sun sets you are served dinner by your own waitor and your own chef cooks the food, they stay out of the way for you so you really do feel alone on this 100 metre or so island. You really do have the most romantic meal ever. The stars we saw looking were just out of this world and the whole experience will never be forgotten, the food itself was also perfect. This is a must for a honeymooner.
As the island is small and you only have 45 villas, the waiters, reception know you by name and its great to hear them greet you each morning with your name. This personal touch makes a difference. You are also handheld as such by the hotel from the moment you meet your rep at the airport till he drops you of at the check-in desk. You can relax and forget any worries as they sort out everything and have thought of everything in advance.
I had my hesitations with Maldives but Banyan Tree it was perfection for five days, its been nearly a month since we went and we keep mentioning it. We didn’t want to leave and when we checked into our Dubai 5* hotel after leaving Banyan Tree we both said its great but nothing will match Banyan Tree… We hope to be back one day soon.
Just as a last note, we went in June and we had 5 days of glorious sunshine, no rain even though it was monsoon season.
