It's really shame that a hotel that costs more than 1000 ponds offer this kind of poor service.I am fed up with all Chinese crowded in the hotel and all speaking Chinese and making a lot of noise in the hotel!if I would have known this earlier,I will never choose this hotel!

We visited Maldives for our honeymoon and stayed at Angsana. My wife got sick on the sea plane but that was probably the only negative experience for our trip but I found the ride very exciting! The resort takes up the entire island and we simply loved our room. We chose a beach villa and had our own pool. The room was great and comfortable and staff courteous and polite. The cook was Bangladeshi and willing to cater to local tastes on request. We really enjoyed the daily activities arranged by the hotel and the SPA is simple out of the world and a MUST TRY for every guest. Do try and indulge in all the water sports the resort has to offer i.e. snorkelling, diving and kayaking. Its pretty safe as the resort has a diving center with trained staff who are very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!!

This is my second visit to the Maldives. We had a good deal with Angsana Velavaru this time and decided to try it.

Transportation to resort
The resort was located about 40 minutes by seaplane from Male airport and they fly by schedules. The seaplane ride was amazing and we had an amazing view from the air. However it was costly, it cost between usd400-500 per adult for the short ride and you had to wait for your scheduled flight which could mean another 1 hour of additional waiting time. Resorts located nearer to Male only required speedboat transfer which cost about usd150 per adult and there was no waiting as the airport was connected to the jetty

The resort and the rooms
The resort consists of an island where the beach bungalows were located. The over water bungalows were connected by ferry which ran every hour. We took the beach bungalows as we had 2 young kids and decided against the water bungalows which were anyway substantially more expensive. The room in the beach bungalow was adequate, nice but not luxurious and a bit dated. It could do with a makeover. The room was small compared to the outdoor bath area with the outdoor bath and jet pool, they should have built a bit more indoor space rather than such a large outdoor patio and bath area. We had a peep at the over water bungalows and they looked a lot more luxurious. I guess you pay what you get. The water bungalows had 2 bedrooms and individual infinity pools and rooftop lounge area. But it cost twice as much as the beachside villa. It was our choice if safety for kids and costs were not issues. - the lack of a public swimming pool was a bit disappointing but was made up by a small jet pool and great beach which ran the entire island, soft powdery sand and crystal clear blue water. There was also a spa and a gym which we did not visit.

Service standards
Service was excellent, the staff were friendly and hospitable. the waiting staff were great, front office was prompt and they made us feel at home during the 5 days we were there. Special thanks to Mohamed from F&B, Song, Elizabeth and Jeff from from office. Biggest thanks to Tini from kids club, it was probably the best kid club we went. It was not because of the hardware but the heartware, Tini really took care of the kids and interacted with them and engaged them rather than just leave them to play on their own

Food
There are 3 restaurants, 1 japanese + Chinese (funa), 1 cafe (kanni) and 1 meditterean (azzuro) - as we were on full board, we were entitled to dine at the cafe only. If we wanted to dine at funa or azzuro, we had to pay 50%. The resort should have at least let us dine once free at each restaurant instead of a pay 50% policy. That was a bit disappointing. We mostly had breakfast +lunch + buffet dinner at the kanni cafe. The buffet food was good but not great, the BBQ every night was excellent though, they served out unlimited portions of beef, lamb, chicken and fish. We tried the set menu in azzuro on the last night, again the food was good but not great. In fact, the risotto that I had was overcooked. But the beef tenderloin was good. We did not try funa restaurant. Prices are generally pricy but normal for Maldives resort. Each meal generally cost around USD50-100 per person. Therefore it is best value to go half board ie breakfast and dinner.

Activities
There were free activities throughout the day on top of the paid ones. The best free activity would be the daily house reef snorkelling, at 1130am everyday to the house reef. The house reef was amazing and it was at the edge of the atoll and was a vertical drop into the ocean. The other free activity was the sting ray feeding at 6pm which was also amazing, at close to 6pm hoards of sting ray would come to shore and partake in the feeding and would leave on their own once the feeding was done. The other free activities include the beach soccer, marine talk (which was boring and need some revamping, there could actually show some videos instead of showing boring PowerPoint slides, canoe was also free but a bit disappointed that the water bikes were not available. Paid activities included the snorkel safari, speedboat looking for dolphins etc which we did not try. We did try the night fishing for $65 per adult. The experience was amazing the boat took us out to sea and we fished using large baits, the people in our boat caught a large grouper, a large red snapper and a couple of barracudas. There were 1-2 people who did not catch anything and were offered another session the next day The staff identified each fish caught to the room and the next day, the kitchen would cook the fish free in any style you wanted. The only disappointing thing was that it was too short, wished we were out a bit longer and caught a few more fishes.

Overall conclusion
Angsana Velavaru is a well run resort with friendly staff. The beachfront villas could do with some makeover but acceptable. I would rate the resort as good value by Maldives standard, food was good (not excellent) and you could manage the costs depending on what you ate. There were a few free activities such as house reef snorkelling or canoeing which would have been charged in other resorts.

Really nice place, beautiful sea and clean rooms. Only one thing made us a little bit annoyed was the night fishing activity on 1st Dec, the staff forgot to ask me and my wife to board on the boat when we were waiting in front of the water house restaurant. Fortunately, thanks to Jimmy’s help, he called a speed boat and sent us to the boat. Anyway, thank you providing us 4 days happy time!

The stay is without a doubt relaxing and peaceful. The villas are well maintain. Their service from all area were accommodative and pleasant. The servers from the bar to the restaurant were always friendly and helpful.
The beach is very clean. Snorkeling at in house reef was spectacular. Diving beyond 5 meter is only for Padi license. The diving center staff were all helpful and highly knowledgeable about the condition of the sea and other aspect of knowing more of diving skills and tactics.
The water sports option is plenty to choose from. Though the prices is steep. It's holiday so be willing to splurge. Night fishing and private fishing is avail. Nite snorkel is avail too. They have lots
of activity package to choose from.
Strolling around the island takes 15 mins the most. No sand flies at all:)
Do get half board as it's more than enough food during breakfast. Also purchase the beverage package to enjoy the house wines, beers, minerals drinks limitless at the bar and restaurants. Cocktails is chargeable. The food is slightly above average. Lobster and seafood dinner is chargeable.
Overall a wonderful resort to laze comfortably.

Room Tip: All rooms are good depending on ur needs. Big family- Velavaru villa as they have two separate house...

The experience was great ! When you to the Maldives you expect sunshine, beach and a nice resort, good food and friendly and helpful and friendly staff. Well, we got it all apart from the weather ! The hotel staff warm and very friendly without being intrusive. Specially the waiters at the restaurant - especially Haathim - was all what you expect form a five star hotel : discrete and very helpful. The food was below five star but still acceptable ( at least for 5 days )
The villas are beautiful with all the privacy you may request. Super clean beach, crystal clear water , a superb house reef .
Go for the half-board which is good enough .
After hours the bar is a place where you can really relax. And if you want to gamble they offer you the crab race... Same again : very friendly staff.
The diving center is managed by experienced, responsible and enthusiastic people. No PADI no diving below 5 meters. Kudo is a great dive instructor. We did fully trust him.

Room Tip: beach front villas with private pool good enough
