Went on holiday to this hotel island, and had an unfortunate week where the island had taken two last minute group bookings, one Korean company and one Chinese company with roughly 30 or so people in each party, that then completely took over the island. They were loud, obnoxious, rude, rowdy and drunk, and this is supposed to be a top notch romantic destination!! A particular highlight was one more inebriated girl of one of the groups teaching a staff member to Gangnam style, in the middle of the dining room, at dinner time.

Fair enough they reduced our bill at the end (after some heated negotiations) however this didn't come close to making up for the ruined trip. My wife was devastated having looked forward to the holiday for months, and I can quite easily say that not enough was done to make up for the pure lack of regard for other guests in the wake of their bottom line. I know they need to make money, but now I feel they will lose money in the long run when none of their guests return, as they will not welcome back the company parties after the sheer numbers of complaints, and there is no way any of the couples will return.

All in all a complete waste of a very long trip, and a heck of a lot of money.

I have stayed previously at about 12 different resorts in the Maldives over the past twenty years (such as Conrad Rangali, One&Only, Banyan Tree, Baros, etc), but the amazing in-ocean-villa (IOV) at Angsana Velavaru resort is by far the best resort that we have visited in the Maldives, and is now in our top-3 of all resorts world-wide (alongside the Nam Hai in Vietnam, and the Oberoi Amarvilas in jaipur in India). Every minor detail about the entire resort was perfect, and above all the service from the staff was truly a cut above anything we have experienced before.

We were booked to stay for three nights, but within minutes of arriving at Angsana Velavaru it was obvious that this resort was exceptional, so we immediately decided to extend our stay for five nights. From the moment we arrived by seaplane and were greeted by the staff, to the moment we departed, everything was impeccable.

Our IOV was furnished to the highest standards and the design of our room and pool was fantastic, the local coral reef was one of the best we have ever snorkelled around, the staff in the dive-centre were also fantastic, and their enviromental approach to protect the reef deserves very high praise and recognition.

The food in the restaurants was superbly cooked and presented, and the Azzuro restauarant in the ocean-villa section is one of the most relaxing places that you could hope for, with michelin-standard service and food (thank you to our butler Adil). We did the cooking class which was great fun, and the cocktail-making class which was a great afternoon of hilarity and happiness.

But above all, it is the friendliness and service and attention-to-detail from the staff that we will remember and treasure for years to come (especially the IOV front-office team, and Mini, who organised everything superbly and effortlessly). Not even the tiniest of things to fault, this was a perfect holiday experience.

Thank you to everyone at Angsana Velavaru for a truly wonderful holiday at your resort, and we will be back agin in 2013, now that we have discovered THE best resort in the Maldives.

It was my first time been to Maldives. I had went to Angsana Ihuru before transfer to Velavaru, both of them gave me a wonderful experience, nice view of endless ocean and blue sky. At Velavaru on land, the sea was so close to us, few step from to villa. Best place to seek for peace, only sound we heard were music made by sea wave and wind. And a lot of beautiful seashell on the unpolluted sand. The seabed was full of surprises, sharks, clownfish, triggers, peacock flounder fish etc, there were too much species to list out. After one night on land we went to in ocean villa, the villa was one of the best compare to the rest of Angsana resort. The service has no comment, whenever we needs them, they will be there to help. The food they serve were above expectation, i will recommend the Maldivian dish, if are able to eat spicy food. If not, the seafood was not bad too. But the breakfast they serve was not very good as compared to the others resort(Angsana Ihuru, on land Velavaru). And another problem was the letter which provide us about the information of the departure was in chinese, this gave me problem in reading it.

Room Tip: must request for sunset view villa.

Food - the buffet selection is too less, quality of food is poor
Service - the stuff service is so so, not efficiency, and cause many delay.
Room - it is big and nice, especially with the private poor
air plane - it is not comfortable to travel by air plane, too hot and too far.

Great employees and above standard service and facilities. Everything works as advertised if not better. I suggest splitting the stay between beach villa and ocean villa.
The only catch is the internet, as it gets very slow or no reception some times.
I definitely recommend it for you.

My husband and I chose Angsana Velavaru resort for our honeymoon, and I believe it was one of the best choice we've made together so far! We stayed 4 nights at Angsana Velavaru premier in osean villa, and another 4 nights at W resort ocean oasis ragoon villa. After visiting two different resorts in Maldives, I must say that Angsana Velavaru was better and more fun place to stay.

After more than13 hours of flight, we were exhausted and worn out, and really not in mood for excitement at all. However, the moment we arrived at Angsana In Ocean Villa Reception, we were very surprised to hear Korean staff greeting us in Korean with a big smile. Her name was mini, and she impressed us with genuine hospitality and courtesy during the stay. She is the reason I am writing this review, she deserve this praise and "our two-thumbs-up!" Also, there was a Korean staff at W resort, but her unfriendly and cheeky manner made us frown all the time! I think mini was the most responsible and rememberable staff at Angsana Velavaru. If we ever re-visit maldives and decide to stay Angsana Velavaru, it is all because of mini :-)

We also enjoyed food, service, and massage at Angsana Velavaru, and in villa massage was very satisfying!

Quality and cleanness of the ocean and condition of the beach at Angsana was much better and satisfying compared to W resort. I should say snorkeling safari was the most fantastic experience in my life :-)

Castaway dining was fabulous! Special thanks to our dining crew, Jawaad, Saigu, Nahiz, and Azeez. They had made us the most amazing dinner in our life!

One program I really did not enjoy was local island trip. I think it was waste of money, and unpleasant experience. I really hope resort can remove this program or explain guests about condition of local island before they sign up. It woul have made us feel better if resort use money from this program to donate local isand or improve condition of it.

I posted my personal review and thoughts about Angsana Velavaru on my blog, and so many people asked about this resort. I strongly recommeded to choose Angsana Velavaru, and a few couple alreay booked in ocean villa for their honeymoon.

I thank you, again, mini for the most memorable stay at Angsana Velavaru :-)

Nov 2011 - 1st site of the hues and shades of the Maldivian waters, refreshed us off our sleep and charged us for the last leg of our journey to the resort ...

On our Arrival at the Male Airport we were greeted by the resort rep, who was our first experience with the renowed Banyan Tree / Angsana hospitality. He greeted us with a warm smile and after a short wait guided us to the coach which took us to the lounge at the Sea Plane terminal. There too we were greeted very warmly by the lounge hostess, who ensured we were comforable and well looked after, while we waited patiently forever, for our sea plane departure.

The sea plane experience was unique and a must do for everyone, though i must say that the seating is a bit too cramped for a person of my size :))

The very view, of the beautiful in ocean villas from the sea plane, took away all our tierdness of the past 12 hrs, since we left home.

We were warmly greeted by Andrew at the jetty who escorted us to the Azzurro, where he spent over 15 mins with us chatting, and immediately got Nicolas to understand our food preferences, as we told him we were concerned about Veg & Indian food.

Nicolas came across as a very warm and friendly person and immediately assured us that we would be well taken care of, the very first meal, our lunch, that he prepared for us, assured us that we could go on his words :) Then after every meal he ensured that we were well taken care off, even when we ate at the Land.

I was eagerly waiting to step into our Villa, i have been soooo looking forward to this for soooooooo long !!! It was an absolute delight, the sheer size, vibrant theme, the plunge pool, THE HAMMOCK, the Sala and the roof top all were to die for :) We had the Sunset view villa, which gave us the a lot of privacy an amazing unrestricted view of the sea. Though i do feel all the possibilities with the Pool, the Hammock and the sala cant be explored due to close proximity of the other villas.

The next day we had our first experience with the water, The house reef snorkelling, it was a great and liberating experience. The marine life and the reef were just too amazing. Puto ( i hope i have his name right ) who guided us thru the experience was always alert and ensured we all made the most of our exprience. The staff at the boat too was very helpful. Delighted with the snorkelling experience, we decided to go in for the Discover Scuba course later that afternoon, we booked for the same and were assisted by Latif, who took us thru the course very patiently and ensured we picked up all the nuances of diving, delighted with the experience in shallow waters, we decided to go in for next level, the house reef diving, the next day. On our return back to the land we realised that our ferry to the In ocean was already gone, and the next would be only after an hour !!! and we had our Spa appointments .. Ali from the diving centre was very thoughtful to have arranged a spl drop for us, without we having even asked him !!! thats what i call customer delight :))

We managed to reach in time for our Spa session, again the warm greeting and the relaxing treatment by the masseuers rejuvenated us. However, i must add that the Spa at the In Ocean can do with a better ambience and needs to be structured to look different than our villas.

The next morning we we all ready to go for our diving session, i must admit i was a bit jittery about diving in the open sea, however Latif put us at ease and ensured we would be ok as he would be taking good care of us. He surely did, he ensured we had a great time down there and saw all that we had to see, being on our back through out ensuring that we were at ease, to enjoy all that the ocean had to offer us. We did 8.8 mts and 48 mins under water !!!

We decided to have Lunch at Kuredhi as we wanted to try out the land dining experience, though Nicolas has coordinated with the ppl at the land.. some how the staff there was very lathargic, totally lost and it took them forever to organise our food, our soup was served after the food !!! it was our first disappointing experience (:

We had our 2nd spa session at the land spa, it was amazing ambience and experience ... much much better than the In Ocean Spa, though i had the same masseur, Namcha, who was really good both the times.

That night we had decided to have a castaway diiner at the beach, Nicolas was again very helpful and prepared the menu as per our liking, and promised that he would have it all co ordinated at the land.

All excited we landed at the beach for the dinner, the arrangement at the secluded end of the beach was as we had expected.. the food again though took longer than expected, however, once it started flowing, it made up for the delay.

Wanting to make the most of the last few hours at the resort, we decided to go for house reef snorkelling again ... again our man Puto escorted us the experience and it was fabulous to say the least.

Finally all packed up it was time to say goodbye to velavaru ...

I must say all the staff, especially at the In Ocean villa was very couteous and warm and responsive. The Land staff however have a lot to learn from them.

Room Tip: If you can afford it ... Only & Only the In Ocean Villas !!!! The Sun Set Villas offer more Priv...
