Having visited Maldives few times before and knowing what to expect from different atolls and resorts we decided to spend a week in the same resort where we have been staying last time almost a year ago - Dusit Thani. It may sound a bit strange because there a big number of luxury resorts of different type, style, location, etc. but the level of service, hospitality and the way how Dusit Thani treated their guests from the first minute of arrival to Male International airport until departure is exceptional therefore our decesion was straight and we never regretted about it!
Simply perfect. Service, SPA, food, fantastic house reef (the distance from steps of our Water villa to the edge of the house reef was about 12/15 metres maximum with sufficient depth even at low tide) - everything was excellent. I would like to take this opprtunity to say big thank you to everybody at Dusit Thani - well done !!!

Room Tip: Suggesting either Water Villa or Beach Villa with Pool

Dear yuri b,

Sunny Greetings from Dusit Thani Maldives!

Our heartfelt THANK YOU for your optimistic review of our beautiful resort. We take great pleasure in receiving such uplifting feedback and we are delighted that we were able to exceed your family’s expectations the second time around.

Our Water Villas are in a strategic location indeed, being set just off the coast in the sea with their own infinity pools and fantastic views over our house reef. Like you mentioned, the reef is very easy to access, giving you the pleasure of seeing the vibrant activity of marine life under the clear blue waters. We are very fortunate to have one of the best preserved reefs in the area being part of the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. I will extend your appreciations to the whole team, especially our ladies at the Spa, our F&B crew and our airport colleagues.

Thank you again for your comments and we hope to welcome you back to Mudhdhoo Island for a another ‘perfect’ getaway!

Khob Khun Krub,
Desmond Hatton

I spent March vacation at the Dusit Thani Maldives resort. It was a week of bliss. This vacation paradise offers you all that you could ask for, and more. It is quite simply, luxury at its finest. The short sea plane ride from Male, the main island of the Maldives, to Mudhdhoo Island, the site of the Dusit Thani property provides a glimpse of the stunning beauty that awaits your arrival. You will be met at the dock by members of the executive team. We were met by Desmond, the general manager and several other members of his team.

We stayed at a Beach Villa with a private infinity pool. My wife and I had one room and our three children shared another. The accommodation was fabulous with a large window overlooking the pool and ocean. Lying in bed or sitting on a lounge chair beside the pool offers a stunning view of the turquoise ocean. The room itself has excellent Wi-Fi, plasma TV with free current movies, Bose surround sound system, daily fresh fruit, an espresso machine and an unbelievable outdoor bathroom with privacy. Soaking in the outdoor tub after a workout at the exercise room or playing tennis was a joy.

After a relaxing coffee and quick look at the daily news from home, we had a wonderful breakfast buffet. A spread beyond your imagination and if something you desire is not available, simply ask and Chef James or one of his colleagues will make it happen. We don’t usually eat breakfast together and to enjoy a luxurious breakfast with family in a breathtaking setting was very special. The food offerings range from traditional Thai to Western and everything in between.

The days were spent playing tennis, snorkeling, swimming in the pool, deep sea fishing, exploring the island and availing ourselves to the spa. I especially enjoyed cycling around the island in the retro bikes provided at each villa. The spa facilities, treatments and setting is superbly unique with treetop treatment rooms. I had an outstanding massage and a magnificent manicure and pedicure (booked by wife who was insistent my nails needed a major overhaul). Prior to my massage I enjoyed the cold and hot Jacuzzi and for those who wish there is also a steam room and sauna. This was Thai hospitality at its best, and equal or better to any spa available anywhere.

The snorkeling around the island is outstanding. I have snorkeled in the US, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Adriatic, but this experience far exceeds those excursions. Snorkeling can be done independently or with Lauren, the Dusit Marine biologist, or with staff from the dive centre. Tropical fish, sea turtles, eels, squid, octopus and coral abound. Lauren is a treasure of knowledge and has an obvious passion for her job and preservation of this UNESCO WORLD Biosphere Reserve. It is well worth spending time with her. If you have children, arrange for them to have a session with her to learn about the coral and sea life.

My son and I did three fishing trips – a traditional Maldivian and two sport fishing trips. We caught fish on all three trips including several large species of tuna and a huge sailfish. My son was over the top! The chefs prepared the fish for us to enjoy at dinner. All the staff were aware of his fishing success and repeatedly congratulated him. He is still smiling and showing off pictures to everyone he meets. We did not dive but the resort offers PADI certification and is a diver’s paradise. You can also sail, island hop and seadoo through the dive centre. Your butler will arrange for packed lunches if needed. Nahed, our butler arranged for sumptuous packed breakfast for our early morning sport fishing trips.

Desmond hosted a guest cocktail evening where we met visitors from Germany, India, Switzerland, France, Australia, Korea and China. We enjoyed a sunset drink each evening at the Sand Bar. The Sea Grill and Benjarong restaurants offer very fine dining in a beautiful and serene setting. At one dinner I was speaking to Chef James and mentioned how much I enjoyed fresh sole and the next evening I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Chef had arranged for me to enjoy some sole as a special treat. The chef at Benjarong, the Thai restaurant, prepared our fresh catch of tuna in numerous ways: grilled skewer of tuna with an outstanding chili sauce; grilled without sauce; curried; tuna salad; broiled with vegetables; and in a special Thai sauce (magnificent and even though we were stuffed we could not resist). Meals at the resort are delightful.

The week went by too fast and I left wishing I had more time. On my next visit I intend to repeat all that I did, but also visit a local island, take a seadoo trip, do some sailing and maybe learn to dive. This resort is a tropical paradise with every desired modern day amenity that caters to your every whim and delivers it all with Thai graciousness. You will not be disappointed and I am sure like me, you will be planning your return.

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful!!

Sawasdee Krub Khun Ameen P,

Thank you, we greatly appreciate you taking the time to describe in wonderful detail your stay with us here at Dusit Thani Maldives. We are pleased that you had an enriching experience with the marine life and enjoyed our food and beverage offerings. We agree with you that it is an enriching experience to personally appreciate the fantastic underwater beauty just beyond the beach, as well as enjoy our varied aquatic activities, which is A+ in itself! It is highly motivating for our team to receive such commendations, and I will ensure to extend your thanks to Nahed, Lauren, Chef James and our Benjarong contingent.

We are glad that you had a wonderful time, as it is our multicultural team’s goal to provide you and each of our guests with gracious Thai hospitality blended with local Maldivian charm. We would love for you to come back and visit us again soon!

Yours sincerely,

The moment we touched down at Male international airport and clearing immigration, we were greeted by Dusit's representative. We were ushered to the Transmaldivian seaplane check in counters (few meters away from arrival gate) and had our luggages tagged and obtained our boarding passes. Our luggages were handled from that point till arrival in the villa.

We were chauffeured on a private sedan to the seaplane terminal (less than 5mins drive). Upon arrival, another friendly Dusit's representative greeted us and brought us to the Dusit Thani lounge on the 2nd floor. The lounge looks clean and brand new with a balcony that oversee the seaplanes berthed at the harbor. There were sandwiches specially made hot upon request and assorted cookies etc plus nespresso coffee and other beverages + free wifi and a cold tower upon arrival. Procedures on Checking into resort also took place here. Excellent service there!

Prior to departure, we were escorted to the tiny gate and ear plugs were supplied for the noisy seaplane. Personally, I think Dusit really takes comments from guests seriously from trip advisor as I remembered reading that a guest mentioned about supplying ear plugs. It isn't that noisy, it was bearable for me.

The seaplane ride took us +/-45 mins over the Maldivian sea. View was Amazing! According to the Dusit staff, it's actually only a half hour flight (128km from Male) but we were scheduled on a flight that reaches coco palm prior to dusit. It's an advantage for us cos we get to see more islands along the way :)
Note: the seaplane can be quite hot when they're about to take off as they need to conserve power I guess.

The seaplane flew pass Dusit island before they made a sharp turn around and almost 45degree landing. Thrilling! So make sure your cameras are in standby mode. The plane berth beside a stand-alone platform and Dusit's ferry will fetch you almost immediately once the seaplane crew brought our luggages down.

We were greeted by our butler mr Riyaz on the 2-4mins ferry ride to Dusit's jetty. A warm welcome by hotel staffs on the jetty n we proceeded to the buggy that drove us straight to the ocean villa (room 212).

There was total privacy on our deck with only occasional guests snorkel by (which they are not suppose to as the current is too strong although water there is shallow). We saw sea turtle, eagle ray, cuttlefish etc from our private deck. There were dolphins from afar too!
Note:
From the reception area beside the Market restaurant, it's a nice +/-5mins stroll to the ocean villas. Bicycles were available but we rather walk and enjoy the greeneries every day.

After Riyaz's clear explanation, we can't stop admiring the villa, the infinite pool and the view! Awesome!
(Look at my pics for self explanation) Nothing to complain but lots of praise. And for those who rated Dusit badly, it's a shame that u guys didn't enjoy your holidays and picking on insignificant details. How micro!
Note: all indulgence package includes unlimited daily laundry, all beverages in the mini bar not including snacks and wine, 6 capsules of nespressor coffee. They provides Molton Brown shower gel, shampoo and conditioner and body lotion (My advise is bring your own moisturizer as u really need lots of it after the sun), an aromatherapy oil burner, iron n ironing board, electric kettle, TWG teas, wine cooler, safe box, weighing scale, bath salt etc. the king bed was so comfortable and pillow menu was available. They provide twice daily housekeeping service too.

We were there on the full indulgence package, which includes daily breakfast buffet at the market restaurant, 3 course lunch at sea grill restaurant and your choice for dinner at any of their 3 restaurants. Most drinks from the drink list are included (not sure about wine/alcohol as we don't take those, however, always ask before ordering as not all waiter/waitress knows what is/not included).

We chose to have Italian buffet for dinner at the market restaurant on our 1st meal. I expected it to be a small scale spread but we were so wrong! Range from Parma ham with melon to hot pasta cooked on the spot and many mouth watering dishes.

The breakfast spread shocked me everyday! We were spoilt for choices! Wide range of varieties but only one stomach! Wish I can taste everything! The fruit bar was heaven with all the cut fruits (persimmons, mangos, kiwis. Longan, etc). And we simply love the Thai noodle soup!

Lunch at the sea grill restaurant were good too. The dessert was amazing! Dinner at sea grill: must try their aged beef of 300gm! Wow! The seafood lasagna as a starter was delectable!

Thai buffet on our 2nd night with live BBQ selection. Delicious tom yum soup tasted like spicy lobster bisque!

Indian buffet on Saturday night: not that good if I'm comparing with the rest of the meals we had.

We tried the Thai dinner at Benjarong: nice ambiance, food was ok, not the best I have as compare to those in Thailand, however they are still worth a mention for the tom yum gung and the red beef curry. The Thai head chef (SIC) was a friendly guy and controls his crew well!

The island is covered with well kept flora. Walking around the island was such a leisure. The island was filled with a light sweet scent from fig trees. Such a delight! They have a few flying foxes near the reception area and some tiny chameleons roaming freely. Kudos to the horticulture staff for the great job (though they never get tipped from guest for the wonderful job, I guess the management keep them happy with whatever).

Expect some tiny harmless flying insects (hey it's an island! Wat else do u not expect?). Insect repellent was provided in the room, which we didn't use it at all. No Mosquitos for sure.

Special mention to staff: Mr Alex (who made us a special refreshing icy Mint lime drink for the Indian buffet and always made time for small talk even though obviously they are busy. He's a friendly gentle big guy!); Mr AdsaXXX (pardon us can't read your name well, but through our conversation he's from Chiang Rai), (who knows my preference so well and he made sure an ash tray is always ready for me. Very attentive!); And lots more who always greeted us with charming smile and very attentive to guests needs. Warm genuine Thai hospitality were felt through the stay. We were glad we made the best choice of resort.

The spa: nice treatment rooms. Treatments costs kinda steep. Although they have 15% discount from 10am-2pm. Visit their spa website for more package details.

All guests must attend a 15mins talk about snorkeling at the dive and marine centre before they give away free rental of snorkeling gears and return a day before departure.

FYI: let your butler know if you're celebrating any special occasions and they will make sure you will get a surprise. We had a huge birthday cake each for on our birthdays. Little touch to make our stay memorable.

Note to resort management: brighter or additional lights will be great in the room and at the market restaurant, albeit it is romantic for dim lights but some guests like us prefer brighter lights to see or read. Restaurant staffs should know in advance who are the guests on half board/ full board when they ask for room numbers. This will help the them to explain to guests what's included n not included.

This is my 37th destination in my travel log. I had high expectation on first visit to Maldives for anniversary celebration. Dusit Thani Maldives had made their great effort to satisfy all our wants. We felt respectful and enjoyable with the beautiful and natural environment during our stay.
To strive for excellence as a 5-star hotel, do for guests in details is the crucial point to make it success. Staffs are friendly and cheerful. Our requests are fulfilled but have to wait for sometimes. Facilities are working and some are relatively new. Amenities is not enough as only shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bath salt, comb and towel are provided. Toothbrush, toothpaste, shaver, shower cap, repellent spray are shortage in supply. We had to request for them and wait for 4 days for the full set.
We booked private dinner on beach and the fantastic view and starry night was impressed. To make it prefect, the food quality could be better monitored as BBQ Chicken wings were raw but steaks were well-done. The portion was too big to finish. Dessert was relatively sweet and it was expected to have some celebration wordings as we had mentioned when booking but nothing was received.
Lots of activities were scheduled everyday. Staffs in dive center were friendly. We joined the guided house reef snorkeling but I expected more advice, like notify us where has special sea creatures etc. as we were experienced in some other countries. Canoeing is complimentary and very good to have professional advice before we go. Morning Yoga was excellent experience for well-being with the professional teacher Rja. A special event with various complimentary activities was held. The water painting workshop taught by artist Afu was very relaxing. More promotion on this would be better as some guests we met didn't notice on it. Behind the scene tour and fish feeding could be more organized and enrich in content.
We went to dolphin cruise and sunset fishing cruise which were great. We caught fishes and requested to eat them on that night. We had negotiated with butler and restaurant manager as there was a policy that fishes are only prepared in the following day. Thank you for staff in sea grill to help in this regard.
Overall, it had provided the standard service on 5 star hotels. As far as it wants to get higher rank, initiation to do the best and value added services are necessary. With the committed GM they have, I assume it will soon be one of the best hotels among Maldives.

Room Tip: Water villa in series 501-510 has the best house reef as where have most fishes. Spotted eagle ray, star fish, sea cucumber, clown fish and turtles were found there. Ocean villa has more privacy but not as value for money as water villa. Guests can go snorkeling directly from the deck for both ocean and water villa provided that there is in high tide period.

Dear km_chung,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Dusit Thani Maldives for your recent anniversary vacation. We are pleased that you took the time to review your stay and share with us some areas for improvement as we strive to deliver an excellent experience for each of our guests. We will offer no excuses but our sincerest apologies for the delays you experienced. We have just placed an order for new Molton Brown bathroom amenities and they are due to be delivered by end of May. We are also pleased to share that we have just appointed a world-renowned Butler and Service trainer who is coming to the island in 2 weeks. We are positive that the intensive training program he and his team will dedicate to our service colleagues will ensure that we in turn deliver the prompt Dusit standard of service at all times.

With regards to your fishing experience, our kitchen usually prepares the fish caught by our guests for their lunch or dinner the next day, to give ample time for cleaning, marinating and preparation. Nevertheless, even if the fishing trips normally return to the island late in the evening, we will be happy to prepare the fresh fish for you the same night with early notification from our Dive Center associates to our kitchen team. We apologize for the slight delay and we have sent a reminder to our partners at the Dive Center and our kitchen crew to allow for flexibility on the procedure. We have also noted your observations with the BBQ preparation and I have spoken to our executive chef James to guarantee the quality of our borderless dining items in future.

We are glad that you enjoyed our Call of Sangu Arts Festival during your stay, and we hope to further promote Maldivian culture and share this appreciation with our international guests. Moreover, it is indeed an unforgettable experience to personally witness the fantastic marine life in our reefs! Khob khun krub for celebrating with us this very special occasion and we hope that we were able create fond memories for you.

We look forwarding to serving you again in Dusit Thani Maldives.

Yours sincerely,
Desmond Hatton
