My wife and me were being pampered by the staffs, services and ambience in Tanjong Jara Resort (TJR) during our stayed in early of November 2010 for five nights.
All the staffs in TJR are nice, friendly, helpful and attentive, right down from the resort manager (Mr. Eric Tea) to the gardeners and cleaners. We were warmly greeted and welcome upon arrival and all the times whenever we meet them in the resort during our stayed.
The resort is being well maintained to keep to the SLH standard, located near to a vast sandy beach and surrounded with a clean and tidy garden.
We were staying in the Anjung Room 1601, is one of the semi detachable villas with best view located in the resort, was told by the guest relationship manager (Miss Gin), the room is large and well decorated with comfortable ambience, including a spacious toilet and outdoor bathtub with a full range of amenities as needed.
We like to seat on the veranda outside our room at the afternoon with cup of coffee, enjoying the direct sea view just right in front of us with beautiful rolling waves and lovely sea breeze, chatting with our best neighbour friends and playing bubbles with their lovely 2 years old daughter.
We also spending our time in the Spa Village for couples massage treatment to relax and unwind our body, their staffs are nice and providing professional massage skill, strongly recommended Pak Yahya for man if traditional Malay massage preferable.
We have most our meals in the Nelayan and Di Atas Sungai Restaurant, with choice of western foods and local delight, foods are delicious and well presented, Chef Ann is very polite and helpful.
We have been invited to join their management cocktail which to be held at the poolside Teratai Bar, having a chance to chat with most of the resort management staffs and others guest in the resort if you want to. We like Satay to be served in the management cocktail
The Kampung life activities have shown us the traditional culture of Terengganu State. The most impressed us is most of the resort staffs have involves in this one hour activities, introduced and serving local food (keropok lekor, apom, etc) and playing games (congkak, sepak takraw, etc) with the guests, demonstrated and teaching batik drawing to promote the best handicraft in Terengganu, and explaining the traditional living style of Terengganu people to foreigner guests.
Tanjong Jara Resort is a perfect place with quiet and nature atmosphere for relaxing and unwinding ourselves.
We are enjoying staying in TJR and looking forward to come back soon.

We stayed there in April 2010, under the all-inclusive package which was quite worth it. We booked the Serambi room they very graciously accommodated my request for a sea facing room when I called up to make the booking.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, and arrangements were made to suit our preferences for our free floral bath and massage. We were invited to join the General Manager for drinks at the pool side later. As it was off season, there were not many people staying at the resort. However, we did have to wait quite a bit to place our order during dinner at the ‘Di Atas Sungei’ restaurant. The menu selection was purely Malay, and the food was mediocre. Although it was nice and romantic, it was a bit too dark for dining, and when there was no breeze, it could get quite warm while you dine there. The next night, we chose to dine at the ‘Nelayan’; the selection on the Menu was far better and the Western cuisine was quite good. The ambience here was nice too – it was breezier as it is closer to the beachfront. Breakfasts were great in the sense that they serve you the cooked breakfast when you make your order, while the general items like bread, juices, etc were served buffet style.

The Spa Village was great, the massages were pretty good, compared to the massages we have experienced in other places. The room units were spacious, including the bathroom.

At night, one could chose to sit in the comfortable sofas they have left by the beach front, without much disturbances as the whole resort is very private and quiet. We sat there till almost dawn. We noted that another couple had even requested for a bottle of white wine to be served chilled there – what a romantic way to end the evening!

All through our time there, the staff were gracious and helpful. My only complaint was that they did not have wi-fi in the rooms, and I had to walk quite a distance to the business centre next to the reception area just to gain Internet access to attend to some crisis at work. And due to the time differences in Europe, I had to walk up and down even in the late hours of the night, which was very frustrating.

All in all, it is a resort that is ‘distinctively Malay’ in style, so if you do not appreciate that, you should head elsewhere.

We will definitely go back again, if we head to Trengganu…for the serenity and personalized service that this resort offers…

My partner and I stayed at Tanjong Jara Resort over the Hari Raya (Eid) Holidays. For the prices they charge, it is a decidedly average resort.

The food at its restaurants were so mediocre and you have to endure mosquitoes during dinner. It was only after several insistent requests did they produce some mosquito coil to keep the mosquitoes away. Service by the beach was so poor, it took more than the flailing of arms to get the attention of the staff around - which were already few and far between. They also had a very silly 'menu master' system which slowed down the ordering and preparing of dinner considerably as there was only ONE menu master for the entire restaurant. We ended up driving out to Dungun town most nights for dinner.

From what we could see it was 50% a couples resort and 50% a family resort, which meant that there were always children by the poolside.

The only thing good about Tajong Jara Resort is the expanse of space - which meant that although the resort is full it didn't feel crowded at all. The beachfront villas are probably the best on the property and the most spacious, but the beach itself it very average.

Overpriced for what you get.

We booked 5 nights here in a Bumbung Room which is the lead in room type, they are above the Serembi rooms and were really nice and I couldn’t see the point of paying more. The only drawback is that they had patio doors but no balcony unless you are lucky enough to get one of the 2 special rooms with an extended balcony with sundeck and day bed, we had one of these rooms (no 306) and it also had beautiful sea views.

The main pool is large with a lovely sea view and plenty of sunbeds, they also come round with complimentary iced water but you do get the noise from any kids here so we preferred the smaller pool at the Teratai Terrace as this was an adult only pool again with a bar and snack menu service. This was like our own private pool most of the time.

Acticities: Our main activity was lifting a glass and knife & fork along with re-applying the sun lotion, but if you wanted to do more than us there is a good choice including some excellent snorkeling and diving, push biking, cooking classes and lots more.

We ate at all 3 restaurants;
Nelayan: is a seafood speciality restaurant but still had western food and also served lunch. You can have a table set up on the beach if you prefer.

Teratai Terrace: is for Private Dinning around the small pool which is ideal for a nice romantic meal.

Di Atas Sungei: Typically Malaysian Food is served here at night but it is a ‘Menu less’ experience, the Menu Masters come out and chat about the type of food that you like and how spicy you want it, they then put the dishes together for you, they do wonderful Curry and Fish dishes. The famous ‘Chef Ann’ is here and she is such a character, very eccentric and takes of the English accent so well she really makes the eating experience. Breakfast is also served hers with the usual western choice and eastern food (still can’t have curry & rice before 9am).

On a whole it is a lovely hotel to relax and enjoy the activities offered but there is really nothing else outside the hotel such as local shops and local eating out.

Perfect for people that don’t feel the urge to explore, personally I do need to get into the local culture for eating out so for me 5 nights was lovely, longer and I would start to get itchy feet. Most people could probably spend 10 nights there and be OK.

Weather: Being on the East Coast it means that the weather is practically opposite to KL, Langkawi & Penang so it make a great choice for visiting during our summer months which is great for the Summer Wedding/Honeymoons.

The staff were outstanding here from the management right down to the gardeners and cleaners.

Ottobre 2008-The trip had been a dream
Ottobre 2010 - the trip had been a disaster! Same room, anjung suite, same price, same period. It become a crowded and noisy family resort with a volleyball court right in front to the most prestigious suite(ours).Different meeting took place at the time.So extremely noisy and stinky workers were up and down disturbing the peace of the place. Moreover,a car were put inside the hall as show to one of the meeting! The restaurant on the beach was closed only malaysian food, the linen were dirty, the low standard service.I cannot believe that this belong a 500 SLH in the word. All is documented by pictures. An awful week! We come back tensed instead of relaxed and this in our opinion is the worst problem!Out of that sum, people would think to recharge themselves for a strong coming back to work....Speechless......

We stayed here for four nights in September. It is a lovely resort and the service was first class. The staff were very attentive and we loved the iced water served to you on the beach while you sunbathed &relaxed. Touches like this make a difference to your perception of a place. The room was spacious and the housekeeping team kept it spotless. The turtle watching excursion at night was marvellous. We had a great, relaxing stay and my only criticisms would be the high cost of the food in the restaurants, compared to prices elsewhere in Malaysia, and the rather over enthusiastic marketing of activities by the hospitality team. We would definitely return to this resort.

We preferred our stay in Tanjong Jara to that in Pangkor Laut - which surprised us! The rooms are stunning and immaculate (YTL know how to get this right). Ours was extremely peaceful and with a great view straight on to the beach. Food was delicious at both restaurants. Staff are super helpful and friendly. Beach is lovely.

A fault? It is very expensive....
