Reviewed June 28, 2013

The hotel lobby was inviting, but the resort sure needs refurbishment to keep up with its 5 star standard. Breakfast was quite disappointing for an award-winning resort. Same food served daily there, juz rearrange the location of the food items! Wifi is limited to restaurants and the lobby, disappointing! Wish they had it at pool area! The bubble spa treat at the pool is not auto, so u gotta constantly get up to press the button- irritating n half of the holes are stuck!! :( The Di Atas Sungei restaurant, river It did not flow as stated on the website, and stunk :( Activities at the resort are a lot but everything has a price and it is not cheap either!! Was bitten by mozzie in room even though they had lit up the mozzie coil.
For Dinner u can take a 10min walk to CB Wee Restaurant along the main road- food not that great but the only walking distant restaurant outside of hotel. or head to Dungun town for a meal @ Ban Yeow Seafood Restaurant.

**Saving grace is that the beach is quite clean and quiet! Enjoyed the beach while we were there!:)

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Unmistakably Malay Tanjong Jara Resort!

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for the review.

Popular breakfast items are featured daily, which makes up for a large portion of the breakfast spread. We do have a quite number of items too that are changed daily which you may not have noticed. Nevertheless, we will strive to improve on this.

Yes 4G Wi-fi is available throughout the resort via a transceiver for a nominal fee.

Thank you for highlighting the jacuzzi pool. We will have the pool checked for clogs and the timer reset to a longer duration.

We have experienced a dry spell of late. We will be seeking the cooperation of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to assist us with this. In the meantime, we have ben pumping water into the river to regulate it.

Thank you for the feedback and we hope to be able to welcome you back to Tanjong Jara Resort in the near future.

Regards,

Kevin Eu

The scenery is extremely breath taking. The beach is very clean and quiet.

The rooms are large with a very spacious bathroom. However, a few improvement defiantly needed as some features of the room were pretty run down. The main door was very difficult to lock and the washroom was little dirty.

There are some sitting area on the beach but some of it the sheets are extremely dirty.

The staff are very friendly and can see that they were trying their best to performed upon guests' expectation. However, is very obvious that the resort is lacking numbers of staff. The services was excellent but is very slow. I overheard a few complain form the tables next to us.

Overall, it was a very good place for relaxation, love the activities provided by the resorts. I would defiantly be back but maybe not on a peak season again.

Charm of serene Malaysian beach life captured in a bottle. That’s the experience provide by Tanjong Jara Resort. Overall a well rested stay pampered by exceptional services. Comfortable rooms, infusion of local cuisines and attentive staffs. The only drawbacks are mosquitoes, remote locations. Visiting the night market (Thursday night only) sharing meal with the locals was the main highlight of my trip.

Tanjong Jara Resort is certainly beautiful, however there were a few areas which could do with improvement. We stayed in the one of the Anjung Rooms (beach villa) we were lucky enough to have the one that was actually right on the beach, the others had a large strip of grass in front with pathways for people to walk along to go to the pool or restaurant or Spa, so not exactly 'private' as stated on their website. Our beautiful villa had a lovely outside bath, which was sadly overlooked by next door's balcony. This balcony could also look right into us sitting on the toilet (which had a clear glass door on it, we had to put a towel up so people could not see in). Again not very private. The food was the best food we had ever tasted in our lives, we simply could not fault it. The Di Atas Sungei restaurant situated over the river was stunning, however the river was not. It did not flow as stated on the website, and stunk to high heaven, not very nice when you are eating the most delicious food in the world. It looked even less inviting as though something had died and rotted in there. There was obviously some problem, as towards the end of the week work was being done to try and get it flowing again. At the beginning of the week the breakfast in this restaurant was pretty average, we had to ask for tea and coffee, there was no menu on our table, towards the end of the week as soon as we walked in we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and if we would like anything cooked for us, there was a menu on the table, and the selection of food was far better than at the start of the week. Nelayan again a beautiful restaurant with beautiful food. We were told by reception they only served Western food, which put us off going, when we travel we like to sample local food. Anyway we thought we would have a look anyway, and yes they do serve Western food, but also an array of delicious local food too. When on the beach the service was pretty non existent occasionally you would get a glass of water depending on what waiter was on that day, which was a shame. We have also been lucky enough to stay at another YTL resort, Pangkor Laut, where the service was second to none, and made Tanjong Jara's service look quite poor in comparison.

Room Tip: If you would like a beach villa that is actually 'on the beach' that you can walk to from yo...

We have had the opportunity to a mixture of relaxation combined with many of the resort's activities. The staff are very friendly and helpful, whilst the rooms are large and comfortable with a large bathroom. The food is good without being 5 star great. Chef Ann is a character with the food in the Asian restaurant above that of the pool side restaurant. Gluten free food is well catered for. Our highlight was the jungle trek to the waterfall - a rewarding day.
Airport transfers quoted by the resort are overpriced, taxi transfers are available at the airport on arrival for about 1/3 of the cost.
A few additional non motorized beach activities would have been an improvement on the stay
Overall a terrific location for a couples holiday

Stayed in TJR at the start of June for 7 nights as part of our honeymoon. Overall I would say this a very good resort. Set into a wooded backdrop against a good private beach. The resort is quite picturesque and we found it to be very quiet. During the day it often felt like we were on our own private beach. The estuary in the grounds lets the resort down. A bit pongy and is obvioulsy suffering from the lack of a strong water flow. Think this might of increased the amount of mozzies near by.
There are two restraunts one western and one Asian cuisine. We ate mostly at the Asain restraunt and every meal was very good. A main and two beers generally came to about £50. We ate in the western restraunt once because a large corporate group had taken over the Asian restraunt (much to our annoyance) and was told by the hotel that we had to eat at the other restraunt. As mentioned by others wine is very expensive so we stuck to the beer at cocktails which were about 28RM. But there is a happy hour to make use of every day at the adult pool bar.
The rooms are very nice with a classic wood theme, very spacious and very well kept. We received an upgrade upon arrival and the view from the room was amazing, over looking the beach/sea. The only things I could moan about the room is that the roof needed to be repaired with a couple of the wooden slates falling onto our balcony during our stay and the lack of Wifi.
What set this hotel apart for me was the staff. Extremely helpful and dealt with any of our requests with the click of a finger. I left my watch on the beach one day and rushed back 15 minutes to retrieve but met a member of staff (Shukri I think) was already on the way to our room to bring it back to me. He had rembered where we were sat and autmatically knew who we were. Chef Ann in the Asian restraunt had a great memory of what we liked which helped each time we came to eat and made their menuless ordering effortless.
We did not do many of the excursions but the bike tour with Captain Mokh was very good and giving a glimpse of local life in the near by fishing village but the hotel needs to either replace or repair the bikes as my partners was not fit for use. The Malay experience in the resort was also very good with opportunity to sample some local food.

The hotel could do with a bit of evening entertainment.

Overall the resort provided a great start to our honeymoon. I would recommend it any couples wanting a relaxing beach holiday.

We visited Tanjong Jara after booking some cheap flights to Terenganu and realising that the boats to Redang and the hotels on Redang all seemed to have some issues.

Not, of course, that Tanjong Jara doesn't. Its 89km south from the airport so the hotel can provide a 300RM taxi, or an airport operator can do the same for 250RM. The meter should be about 220RM. We went with the hotel but considered the options. The Naza Ria we received could take 5 passengers without a struggle but the hotel pitched it as 3 adults. not sure why.

The hotel itself is lovely with a service staff providing an excellent experience. The best Malay-run hotel I've been to. We booked a package of food+ massage from the YTL Travel Centre who continued to get in the way of me finding out the necessary detail to be able to access the information I needed.

Breakfast + 2 course lunch + dinner is a lot of food (and all of it pleasing) and prices for food and alcohol in resort are pretty high. It quite a good idea to pick up a bottle of something to take as Terengganu does provide lots of outlets for buying alcohol + its expensive. 25 or 28RM for a beer in resort.

The massages were good, but they do tend to allocate same-gender masseurs unless you ask specifically.

The Saturday night (Village experience) was good, with an assortment of different foods, crafts and games + a monkey that collected coconuts from the palms for the guests to eat and drink. Very nice.

We couldn't do the walk through the forested area as we hadn't brought rugged footwear.

The beach was beautiful with some short seaweed and small fishes. Nice temperature, and the pools very good.

With two twelve year olds we had to get two rooms as rooms will only take two adults + a child
Rooms very stylishly done with great bath and lots of wood.

A great place to chill and relax for a few days

Room Tip: The YTL travel centre we booked through wanted to charge extra for all extras. The hotel staff are m...

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Tanjong Jara Resort!

Thank you for choosing to stay with us instead of Redang and thank you for taking the time to review us here. I am happy to note that you and your family had an excellent experience here with us. We take luggage into consideration hence the pitch of 3 adults for our Nazas as they have very little luggage space at the back. We hope to receive you and your family back here again at Tanjong Jara Resort in the near future.
