What a perfect place for escaping from it all. Sitting here, back in Kuala Lumper - we really miss the peace and simplicity of life at Tanjong Jara. We loved our time there. Firstly the service was the best we have experienced at a resort, the perfect balance of friendly interaction and service. Everyone without exception was friendly, smiley and looking to make our stay perfect. I cant say enough good things about the staff and the service. It was exceptional. The food was also great. The main restaurant doesn't have a menu, which can be a bit disconcerting, but it wasn't as everything was great. Chef Ann was so engaging and fun and based on her trip to the Market and our tastes, suggested a wonderful array of Asian food for us to try each night. The chicken or prawn roselle is the best sweet and sour I have ever had. The vermicelli, sizzling beef, grilled prawns, rending and chicken with dry chilli and cashews also great. And then try the chocolate lava cake or banana fritters. We wanted to eat local, Malay and Asian food, so ate at the main restaurant most nights. There is a second restaurant, Neraylan which is next to the beach. The setting is nice but e food for dinner a little more mainstream and not as good in our view. Although we enjoyed their lunches - particularly the Asian burger, fish head curry and satay.
So thats service and food with a tick. The resort is set in the jungle but on the beach and as a result you get a really remote Beach with a feeling of a castaway as the loungers are spread out and there aren't too many people around. The only downside is that the sea brings a lot of rubbish onto the beach and this slightly spoils the walks along the beach and the sand is so hot, we burnt our feet - so keep your flip flops nearby! Don't expect White sand, it's yellow. The pool is an infinity pool and very nice. There is a spa and a cute little jungle gym. One of the other great things about the resort is the wildlife. While we were there, we saw on a daily basis large monitor lizards, lots of birds, two different species of monkeys and quite a lot of them, tree squirrels as well as the odd snake!. we also did a few Trips that were enjoyable. The bike ride was worth it for the roti and coffee at the local coffee shop and the river cruise and Malay village visit an interesting insight into the local culture. I would also recommend the cooking class which was fun. The night Market isn't great, the food area more interesting than the rest. The cocktails at the resort were not the best, so we stuck to wine and beer, and don't expect much sign of life after 10.30 as it's not that type of place.
All in all, we will definitely be back one day when we want to switch off and escape from the world. The service, room, food and wildlife were great. It's not cheap and the bill racks up as the alcohol is pricey - but we thought it was well worth it. Also - try and time it so you are there on a
Saturday afternoon so you can experience kampong life, including the famous coconut collecting monkey! a wonderful stay, we were sad to leave and a huge thank you to the wonderful staff.

This is really a paradise in the jungle. Very nice small houses with big, very nicely designed apartments. The facilities are well kept and the staff is super friendly and mostly very efficient.
Two pools are well located and clean, beach is not very long and unfortunately a lot of rubbish is coming with the water and is not removed.
Two restaurants cater the guests. Staff is not very flexible, one evening we left because they were not willing to put two tables together outside. Food is good but not always 5 star quality but always 5 star price. Location does not leave you other options, without car, you are stuck there. There is nothing in walking distance around

Room Tip: all rooms are nice, some are far away from beach or pools and restaurant. The resort streches along...

We had wonderful time relaxing at this resort just before the new year. Check in was smooth after a long trip early morning, staff really helpful always with a smile and very fast. There are 2 restaurants offering good variety of food between international and Malaysian. Room was clean and neat but quite old but the view was just amazing. Overall very relaxing and enjoyable.

Room Tip: Make sure you opt for full board, food is quite expensive and the town is about an hour drive. Do no...

Have just returned from 10 days (33'c) beautiful place, staff wonderful and helpful. We had an issue day one with our room, but without a fuss and very professionally it was dealt with. We were up graded to a wonderful room (thank you all) with a balcony and sea view. The food is delicious at both restaurants, we preferred the beach restaurant, but the main one is also fantastic with wonderful Chef Ann. The diving guys were great and helpful and again food was brill. the Island that you dive from is magical. The grounds to the hotel are well kept with much wild life evident lizards, monkeys, birds etc. There is too much to talk about enjoy it if you go and do all the trips for a change of scenery. Oh and enjoy the water ceremony you will have to participate.

Guys your hotel is wonderful and your all obviously very proud of it....... well done

We have just returned from a fabulous 10 days holiday. Wall to wall sunshine - 34 degrees every day ! We had a Serambi Room - spacious and with a fantastic bathroom ! The hotel grounds are magical - and the two swimming pools are beautifully kept. Fresh towels and endless supplies of iced water ! The Di Atas Sungei Restaurant served an excellent Breakfast Buffet and in the evening Chef Ann acted as "Menu Master" and devised your dinner around the foods that were fresh from the market. The Nalayan Restaurant was great for lunch and also dinner - more Western Fare than Di Atas Sungei ! Beware though Alcohol is on the expensive side ! The staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable. The ceremony of the gong at Reception is a nice touch - ONE ring for arrivals and THREE rings for departures. We were sad to leave and have wonderful memories of the holiday.

YTL Resort has never failed to impress me. A wonderful place to stay and relax. I decided to spend my birthday in Tanjong Jaya. Check in was smooth. Cold towel, refreshing drinks. They even hit a Gong as a sign of arriving guest. The manager in charge greet us, welcoming each and every one in person. I feel at home already.
We booked for bumbung room, however as we had previously stayed at YTL, they upgraded us to Serambi, free of charge.
The room is elegant, smell of spices. The bathroom is enornemous. Its even bigger than the room itself. Thinking about it alone make me jump in excitement.
There are 2 swimming pool at Tanjong Jara. One is deeperr than the other. The strech of the beach is long, good for evening and morning walks.
One should try the keropok lekor served at the restrant. The best ! While sipping fresh coconut drinks.
Overall, my stay could have never been better. Will definitely come again here.

I just came back from Tanjung Jara Resort for a 3 days 2 night stay..It's indeed as beautiful as everyone mentioned..The 5hours + journey from KL to Dungun is indeed worth the effort..When we arrived..we were allowed early check in, given small chilled face towels and a welcome drink..I have booked a Bumbung room..and requested a sea facing view(if available)..not only did they comply with it..in fact..they upgraded the room for us..The level of service and treatment is fantastic.Their attention to small details like providing simple chilled ice water with orange slices and providing ample beach towels is good...even my 2 kids were happy. In fact..they begged us to extend our stay.No doubt about it..we will return to this beautiful resort again.
