“Good place for Hit of golf if there is...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2010

Good place for Hit of golf if there is the opportunity. Good resort hotel. Dining is at the high end. Most staff were friendly. Not much in terms of shops and other food options in the direct vicinity. Quick taxi ride to Sunway.

Stayed here in May with friends on a golfing trip & played at the Glenmarie course associated with the course. Hotel lobby was excellent, staff were very helpful (especially with golf bookings etc), breakfast was good (but very busy)
PRO's - Fantastic golf courses (especially valley Course) hotel & golf prices are very good. Hotel is pleasant (although a little dated/tired in parts), pool is also very nice.
CON's - miles from anywhere - do NOT stay here if you plan to visit K.L.C.C. every day/night but it is perfect for a golf trip.
Food & especially drinks are expensive & there is not really anywhere else to go so you are a captive audience - with the exception of catching the free shuttle bus to the Pyramid shopping centre (10 mins) & taxi back. If you do this there is good choice of bars/restaurants at a much better price)
Overall we loved it & were prepared to pay 30 Ringit for a beer based on the fact that the golf was cheap & very very good.
Would not recommend this place for a City Break as its 45 mins by taxi to the centre.

The name of this hotel is misleading - it is not in Kuala Lumpur. I stay there when doing business in Shah Alam, mainly because it is so close. The hotel is reasonable, but I wouldn't stay there unless I had to specifically be in Shah Alam. It is miles from anywhere, and teh bar prices reflect this - its an expensive place to drink.

Overall fine if you are in the area; but better places are available in town.

One big downside is that there are coach loads of tourists sometimes, which make breakfast very noisy and crowded - but the rest of the time the hotel is quiet

However if want to say around the old Subang airport, Subang Jaya or Shah Alam area, and if you have a car, then it is quite convenient. It is located far from other places of interest, and there is no public transport other than calling for a taxi.

There is also an above average Japanese restaurant on its premises, as well as a bar and an international buffet restaurant (Kites) located next to the pool for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals in the restaurants was average.

While the corridors leading to the rooms looked shabby, the rooms themselves look like they were recently refurbished, and were clean and comfortable, Service was good, parking was in the open but free.

The hotel fronts a golf course, the pool and the surroundings are designed resort-like, and if you are there for a holiday (as I was again during the CNY holidays with family) they will enjoy the pool. Unfortunately, that's all there is for the kids.

There is also a spa in the hotel, but I don't know how it is.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Glenmarie (Kuala Lumpur Malaysia) for 3 nights in a junior suite in the executive wing from 13-16 April. The junior suite was just a larger than normal room. No separate living area. We booked for 3 people, my wife and self and 15 yo son. The room only had a king bed so I requested a roll-away. The room was only set up for 2 so I also requested extra towel, bottle water etc. It took 2 x calls to get them delivered and then again next day only 2 x towels, water etc were left.
The stay did not start well when the receptionist in the executive lounge did not acknowledge my platinum Priority Club membership at check-in as happens to me at all of the IHG hotels I visit in Australia and Singapore. We were also kept until after 4pm before our room was ready.
The service in the executive lounge, especially the breakfast was extremely poor. No cutlery on table, no milk in jug, no butter, scrambled eggs ordered were delivered cold. I thought there was going to be a “mutiny” by guests at breakfast as most were as unhappy as us. The quantity of the food at the evening “cocktail” sessions (read cocktail as beer, wine and soft drink) was very limited. If you weren’t in the door at 5.30 you missed out on all-but the unpopular dishes. The air-conditioning in the executive lounge did not work properly making it very uncomfortable. At one stage it was even cooler outside which is difficult to believe on a KL evening.
Ordered dinner from “snack bar” in lobby one night and my wife and son had finished their meal before mine arrived, so I sent it back and we were not charged for the 2 x meals eaten.
I complained to management twice and was assured that this was most unusual and that he would personally follow up. The duty manager offered us a 20% discount for our troubles on checkout. This proved that it is worth complaining if you are unhappy with service provided.
On the up-side, the hotel surroundings were nice with golf course views and inviting pool. The food in the Japanese restaurant was quite good. We also booked a city tour through the concierge desk that took in Batu Caves, a batik factory and the Royal Selangor Pewter factory and Petronas twin towers. The driver, Fuad was excellent, giving us many insights into local sights, customs etc. Note that you are unlikely to get a ticket to get up to observation area in Petronas towers unless you queue up at 8.30 in the morning as only a limited number of free tickets are distributed each day. We learnt this when we arrived to find a “no tickets left” sign on the door.
Another must do on a trip to KL is a trip to the Kuala Ganja Elephant Sanctuary. It is about a 2 hour drive from hotel, but is worth every minute to be able to feed, ride, bathe and even swim with these incredible creatures.
The hotel is located about 25km from city centre so not great for city shopping etc as the traffic is a bit crazy at times, but would suit a relaxing golfing holiday.
In short I would not stay at this hotel again and would not recommend it to friends.

Had a one night stay here in April 2010 whilst in transit within Malaysia. As the budget carriers (Firefly and Berjaya) fly into Subang for KL, this hotel made an excellent place for a night stop. Cab from airport was RM25 and took ~10-15mins.

Pretty impressive all round given it's a Holiday Inn, and so this place represents good value. Pool was good too. Ate in the Kites Restarant which was reasonably priced for a hotel place and good food all things considered. Staff were like all the others in our experience of Malaysia - extremely friendly and happy to do anything you ask.

What you might not like:
No complimentary internet. It was a max charge of RM57, but that's still expensive. Be warned, although the guide says max of RM57 per room, if you use more than one laptop, then you will incur another charge.

We stayed at Glenmarie Holiday Inn for one night in March 2010 as we required a hotel near to Subang Airport. It is a 25 Ringgit cab fare from the small airport that operates Firefly and Berjaya Air flights. On arrival at the hotel we were upgraded to a suite as the pre-booked double room was not available. The room was fine, in good condition and fitted with all the amenities one would expect from a hotel in the Holiday Inn group. It had excellent views of the adjacent Glenmarie Golf Course. The evening meal we had was good and the breakfast was fine. The hotel had a pleasant lounge bar and an OK pool. I would recommend this hotel for travellers utilising the golf course or Subang Airport but it would not be of benefit those wishing to see the KL City sights.
