Damai Puri Resort & Spa
Ranked #48 of 55 Hotels in Kuching

The resort was nearly deserted and consequently many of the activities were not functioning. The food was very poor and 1/3 more expensive than the better quality and wider variety served at the Damai Beach Resort next door. The rooms are only just passable and that was superior room the standard ones were nothing better than 3 star. The whole property is on the verge of becoming tired and run down. The staff are friendly but poorly trained and really unable to help a great deal. I would not recommend this place .

Stayed 2 days. The initial room on the 1st floor had a musty smell. Moved to another room on the ground floor which was nice. Views of the sunset from the pool was great.
The only damper was seeing a rat scurrying across the restaurant floor during breakfast!

To make it short: don't stay in this hotel! Better go the the Damai Beach Resort which is just 10 mins. walking distance away.
We arrived in the evening at Damai Puri, checked in and recognized that in was very empty in this hotel. Being tired from travelling the day, we checked out the restaurants at the hotel and they didn't really made it - or do you want to sit a a BIG restaurant on your own? Asking the lady at the reception if there are other restaurants nearby, she denide (so we believed!) and went at the hotel to the Ku Restaurant. Chinese food, every streetfood in Shanghai is of better quality, not tasty, just bahh..... totally overpriced like the whole hotel. Ok next day....
Breakfast in a 300-seated restaurant, only glassfront to the beach, no possibility to sit outside. Like the other mornings, 2 or 3 tables we occupied out of 100 or 150. Scary. Cheking the surrounding, we found in walking distance other places to eat. At least we must not come back to the restaurants at Damai and found the lady at reception was lying. Try the restaurants at Damai Beach or the rainforest restaurant just on the right end of the beach up the stairs.
Hotel itself: big, really big. but like others wrote here, very very empty. Scary empty. The rooms are not four star anymore, maybe 15 years ago when it was built... bathroom, aircon, beds need a refurbish. Balcony door could not be locked. One day our room door was not locked by the cleaning staff. Everywhere are signed what is not allowed: "not allowed to pass for external people" - "not allowed to jump in the pool" - "not allowed to park your car" - etc... The pool itself really nice, big, some nice sunbeds, good time to relax. Towels can be obtained at the towel corner, due to the fact that almost no guests were present, there were 4 (!) staff all day in the towel corner starring at the few ladies in bikinis all day long.... my wife didnt feel comfortable with this at all... .
The hotel itself is absolutely overpriced, we paid about EUR 80 per night, which is compared to Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and even Singapore a hell too much for what you get. Overall service level of the staff is a desaster.
Upon departure, we complained about our experience. Wow, they offered us 20% discount on the food. Sorry to say, but this hotel has a absolutely incompetent management, the staff almost the same.
I mean the location is really great, small beach, nice view, rainforest, etc.. We went twice for dinner to the Damai Beach Resort (just 10 Mins walking distance) - three restaurants which nice food, full of people, smiling staff, etc... hopefully they will take over the Damai Puri soon. So please don NOT book your stay at Damai Puri!!!

We stayed during our 3 weeks trip through Malaysia (West, Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah) in this hotel for two nights. It was definitily a honeymoon break for two days. We had really great hotels and good excellent food, service and quality everywhere we stayed in Malaysia but this was almost a nightmare. No warm welcome at the reception, when we came to our room, the AC was not working and we got another room after 1 hour. Internet in the lobby did not work, neither in the business center. the resort is rundown, only a few rooms where occupied and there is no soul in that resort. The pool is ok but not very clean, the towels you get are over-used and not very clean. Food is absolutly terrible! The hotel might be ok for people who have no expectations at all and who are not looking for a resort and high resort standards.

The title says it all !!! Myself and my wife stayed here last year July. From the moment we arrived we were treated so very well.Upon being shown to our room, we were delighted to find that our bed had been decorated with roses.Fom the barstaff, the various restaurant staff. The service all round was fantastic. The menu of activities to choose from are excellent. Having come from other 5 star hotels in Bali, we found the level of service in the Holiday Inn Resort to be top notch. They even lets us to check out at 6pm without any extra charges. Thank You for such a memorable stay...we will most definitely be back !! Ramesh & Reka

First time in Sarawak give me hundred things of expectations, my friend & i decided to stay at damai puri for 1 night stay. We booking for a normal room & we check-in around 5 pm., but before that Damai Puri did call us for confirmation, that was a good effort i think.. Reach at lobby with the view of beach, make my expectation becme higher...but....during the check time, the thing that i never expect happen....When i otw to the room, someone is occupied that room, some teenagers, luckily there no shameless incident.. Then we go down again to change the room, really tired of it because we need to go up n down, with nobody help us...really mke my day turn down...

The room was good with the balcony n view of the beach..we love it..amenities quite good.. the best thing for me is the pool..there are 2 side of pool...so u can choose which one best for u... ;) ..Overall stay good although got bad mark for the check in time..On the night not so much activites can do...but this resort near to kampung budaya...so full ur night with budaya stuff...hahahha...

Room Tip: Choose the room higher floor with beach view rather than forest view.

It was a short holiday to the East Coast of Malaysia with my family last few weeks. Despite of all the positives and negatives feedback, we still have a go with it, as my sisters stayed there before and had a good experience and recommended me to go for it. It turned out great and not as bad as what was described in some cases...

First of all, the room was good, spacious and very clean! Good value for that rate. My room faced the ocean and the big pool and it was really awesome.

The swimming pools was great, clean and of course very large... My kids loved it!! However, I noticed that there were some people with no proper attire swimming in the pool But, still no offence.

We had our meals in the restaurant, it was reasonable and satisfying to us. My kids loved the pasta (pesto), credits to the chef =) Not to forget, the local cuisine (roti canai at breakfast) was very nice and also the Sarawak Kuching Laksa... Yummy!!! My husband loved the steam Garupa fish from the Ku Restaurant, and he said that it was his best experience of having such a fresh and delicious fish of all his life.

I went to have a try in the Spa with my husband, the Spa was not bad.. Well, we manage to relax ourselves. Next, the Spa village is very nice and beautifully decorated, I like it!

Great holiday escape, memorable place. Highly recommended!!! We will go back again, very soon!!!
