“The place to be in Kuching”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

Everything you're looking after in a guesthouse is at Singgahsana Lodge :
- the dorms are air-conditionned and very clean and you're provided a locker with key
- there is a great terrasse-bar on the roof, where you can meet your fellow backpackers, have a beer or two, and play fusball
I totally recommend this lodge !

Clean, comfortable rooms. Really helpful and friendly staff. Great for backpackers - very sociable with amazing bar on the top floor. We weren't backpacking but didnt feel out of place. Basic breakfast (and a bit of a stampede with people filling up before going out on trips) but certainly better than nothing. Highly recommended place to stay.

The guesthouse is great, staff is very friendly and super helpful. The place is clean, affordable and has a really great athmosphere. The rooftop bar is a great place to chill out after a busy day visiting kuching and is also a nice place to meet other travellers. If I ever have the chance to go back to Kuching, I would definitely go back there. Would highly recommend. Stayed there 4 nights spread during 2 weeks (went to trips in between) and each time we went back, we had the feeling to go back home. If you are still unsure about the place, just go and check it out, you will see for yourself how great this place is :)
Btw - have a look at their book in the reception of tips from travellers to travellers, there are some great recommendations in there and it does change a bit from the lonely planet ones :)

The atmosphere is welcoming the decor attractive the communal areas cool and relaxing.
The twin rooms with shared bathroom are basic, comfortable and include air con. The bathrooms are kept clean and the showers good with plenty of hot water.
Some rooms can be a bit noisy due to traffic or those using the upstairs bar.
Breakfast includes fresh fruit, juice, tea or coffee and white toast with butter and jam - very relaxed buffet style.

Located almost on the the riverfront, it is also next to the small restaurants of Chinatown and just a few minutes walk to the shopping district of Kuching. Once again I chose to "flashpack" it and take the honeymoon suite by myself at MYR132 per night. I had a spacious and rather luxurious room with private ensuite and air con. Excellent value for money. Free wifi in my room. Upstairs is the uber cool rooftop bar which seemed to close no earlier than 4am on the 3 nights of my stay, but posed no problem with noise. Many folks stayed there with young kids. As I said, a very cool place to have a few beers and there are several cool watering holes within a 100-200 metre radius for the hotel. Staff will help you with organising packages to anywhere in the region. The bus to Bako National Park leaves from the bus stop about 20m from the door.

Room Tip: If you feel like being pampered for once, spend the extra and go for the Honeymoon Suite.

Stayed here for 4 nights with our 2 boys aged 10 and 13. Had our own room with aircon and en suite bathroom. Clean and welcoming. Pleasant surprise that many of the other guests were similar age with children too - it didn't feel like back packing used to 25 years ago! Great base from which to explore Kuching, Bako National Park and see the orang utangs. Go and have a seafood meal on top of the car park - the staff will direct you!

This is a very good hostal in the middle of the city, almost on the river walkway. Excellent lounge/bar/breakfast on the terrace. Very friendly staff, plenty of information. If you are by yourself, plenty of travellors to talk to.

Room Tip: ask for a window when booking
