Owner description: Kuching Kayak is located in the beautiful city of Kuching in the “Land of Rivers”, Sarawak, Malaysia. Run and operated by Francis Ho, an architect by profession, who as an avid and passionate kayaker is sharing the beauty, joys and pleasures he has discovered paddling on these beautiful waters. So if you are thinking of a Sarawak trip and you want to experience Sarawak in your travels in Borneo - this is the authentic totally non-touristy experience thing to do when you are in Kuching. See our rain forests and jungles - from the perspective of the river.

If you are in Kuching, just go for it! Beko picked us up sharp at 8 from the hotel and after a drive of an hour or so through the very scenic Borneo landscape, we arrived at a small village (Kampung) from where the Kayaking started. To me the river landscape was beyond ordinary, every single turn had a surprise, at times thick forests, then huge rocks, or sandy beaches or caves or bamboo shrubs or open skies...it was breathtaking! All this while Beko ensured that we are comfortable, toldus stories of the land and kept us engaged. I have never kayaked more than 30mins before, but could easily kayak the 15 km stretch in the 3/4 hours and enjoyed it very much! They provide a light lunch too. Ensure that you carry sunscreen, insect repellent, a change of cloth and a small camera. If you are like me carry some granola bars too ;). Enjoy!

5 stars for Benko and James who run an absolutely great kayaking trip. Both are very friendly and chatty and made the day one to remember. They picked us up on time from our hotel, we then had a 45 min drive to the start of the kayaking.. a few hours gentle kayaking (you can go at your own speed), short stop to see a waterfall and then on to lunch, then another hour or so of kayaking via a few caves if you want. I cant recommend this trip more!! Great day- fabulous memories! (they take lots of photos for you too so that you don’t have to get your camera out!). Great guys that made our trip to Borneo 5 out of 5. Thank you guys!!

We booked by phone once we arrived in Kuching and decided to do a kayak/orang utan combination. James picked us up and we had interesting conversations on the way to Semenggoh. He's very knowledgeable about many things and loves natural history. After the morning session at Semenggoh we drove to a village to pick up our guide Beko and the kayaking gear. We then drove to the start point and paddled off. The scenery was beautiful, the weather hot and sunny. After a while it rained, which was very welcome. Don't let rain put you off - it didn't detract from the day a bit. We pulled in and walked a little way to a waterfall. Beko is a lovely guy and was very patient showing my 11 year old son where to climb to reach the top of the waterfall. He talked about various places along the river, how it related to his life and pointed out birds along the way. The sandstone rocks and formations along the river were fascinating. Beko took photos with his camera and later downloaded them for us to access. We would recommend this company to anyone. Great value, very personal and just what we wanted. Thanks guys.

After call to Francis we were picked up at 8am by the friendly and helpful James who took us to the Orang atan sanctuary. Unfortunately the promise of food was not enough to entice the orang atans out of the trees and we left without seeing any, however James promised to try again in the afternoon on the way home.

We then met up with Biko who was to be our on water guide, a local. We were dropped off up river and we met James again for lunch and then at the end of the trip.

The kayaking was leisurely. We had a few breaks at different spots and lunch at a local village. Biko was helpful and full of interesting stories and information. It rained most of the time during our trip but that only added to the atmosphere of drifting down a beautiful river.

We finished the kayak trip a little earlier than usual and headed back to the sanctuary and we were able to see a few orang utans thanks to the ever patient James.

We were dropped off tired, thrilled and with lots of great memories.

This was an excellent, well organized trip that did exactly what the description said. Kayaking down river for 11KM with stops to a village for a well prepared and enjoyable lunch and a trip to a beach. The company are able to cater very well for special diets including gluten free which was really appreciated. The added bonus of two of the guides taking the photographs was also very good. A CD was delivered to our hotel the same evening. I would definitely recommend this trip.
