“Nice gateaway for a day trip!”

Annah Rais Hotsprings
Ranked #40 of 99 things to do in Kuching
Attraction details
Reviewed June 18, 2014

Since I was on my long Gawai holiday recently, I took an opportunity to visit Annah Rais Hotsprings with my parents and cousins. It is only about 1 hour drive from Kuching city. From Kuching city, please take the road to Borneo Highlands Resort. We went during week day where there were not many visitors there too.

The entrance fee is RM5.00 per person. To reach the hotspring, it took 5 minutes walk through a village farm. The river is very clean with clear crystal water. The hotspring area is in the river itself and the area is being walled for easy access to all visitors. You can take a dip in the hotspring then jump into the river besides it to cool yourself down. This makes Annah Rais Hotsprings very special because it is hotspring in the river. Anyway, the hotspring here is not very hot as compare to those in Poring Hotspring in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and the sulfure smell is not very strong too.

Please remember to bring your own foods where you could have a picnic near the river. Before you leave, keep the place clean by throwing your rubbish into the rubbish bins provided.

I love nature and this place is very peaceful! I would recommend you to visit Annah Rais Hotspring!

Just under an hour by car from Kuching. The springs are pools (concreted) on the edge of the river. A short wade across the cold water can be a trick if you don't step carefully. I went base over apex in the cold water. Embarrassing is not the word!
Into the body broiling water of the springs to invigorate and refresh tired leg muscles.
Back across the cold river to land. My poor jeans were soaked and a "parang" - long bladed extremely sharp knife - was used to remove the offending wet legs. (Much to the amusement of partner, driver and people there.)
Not the best hot springs I've been to but still put it on your list if you've never been.

Annah Rais Hotsprings is located the Padawan District. It is about 1 hour - 1.5 hours drive from Kuching City. The road heading up to the hotsprings from Annah Rais longhouse used to be quite uneven with large potholes here and there, but it is all good and well-tarred now.

Entrance fee is RM5 per person. Basic shower stalls and changing rooms are available but there aren't that many stalls to begin with. It is best to rough it out and just rinse yourself at the open shower outside the stalls after your dip in the hotsprings or river.

The hotsprings are actually in / beside the river itself. The area is walled up to stop the hot water from flowing away. There are 3 pools in total and I do think that the water in the hotsprings is really hot (not boiling hot, but hot enough to make your skin turn reddish pink). Which is good, cuz that's why we are here for in the first place anyway.

But if you are not a big fan of hot water, then the river itself will be fun for you too. The water is clean and cool. But do take extra care when waddling in the river for the current can be quite fast.

Took the opportunity to check out the Hot Spring after a tour of Annah Rais Longhouse. The hot spring spot can be found on a few spot on the river floor. The community had built a pool surrounding the spot to contained the hot water to be enjoy by the visitor. The water inside the pool are quiet hot and be advise that you need to feel the hotness of the water before dipping in. The water outside the pool is cool and crystal clear. You can have the place all to yourself during the weekdays.

The Annah Hot spring which is located just after Kampung Annah Rais Longhouse, in Kuching, Sarawak, easily be reach by Borneo Height Road,

As we went during a weekday the hot springs were completely empty and it was just my partner and I bathing in them. The small hot spring was fairly hot, hot enough to probably burn you and thats why we didn't step into that one. The larger one was luke warm where we spent most of our time, the flowing river just beside it is very clean and contains small fish. Watch out for the spiders which rest on the wet rocks near the river beds!

Roughly 1h15m scenic drive from downtown.
