I would like to start this review with a couple of quotes from the hotels own web site: "As a 5 star business & travel hotel, we offer a plethora of services, all aimed at making your stay the most enjoyable one in the city of Kuching" and "Open the doors to any of our rooms or apartment suites and you will be impressed by our comfortable and cosy yet classic furnishings which evoke the era of Merdeka, equipped with modern amenities"
One of our most disappointing hotel stays.
The pretence of the front end facilities, the spacious and welcoming entrance area, the pleasant and well trained staff, the magnificent Italian restaurant which runs like clock-work and serves the most wonderful food and the pleasant Seatle coffee shop all fool you into not expecting what waits beyond. Shabby run down hotel suites in need of a complete overhaul.
The promise of being impressed fell so very short of it's mark, the actual impression was first olfactory, the intense smell of stale smoke that lingered from the lift lobby of the floor to the room. It was so obvious that the rooms hadn't been aired since the old king died, this fact was confirmed by the windows that were all sealed, very badly sealed. I expect to stop us from throwing ourselves out!
We had booked into a suite with kitchenette as we like the American style of please yourself accommodation, however we were greeted by signs "No outside food or beverage allowed", like we would take any notice of that having paid for what was advertised, it did get a little more difficult when we found that there was nothing but cups and saucers, two glasses and tea spoons.
The modern amenities were as follows: TV's from the 1990's, bad satellite reception and no premium channels. WiFi powered by Wells Fargo, when it was a stage coach company.
The staff were friendly, well trained, welcoming and as helpful as they could be, we actually felt sorry for them as their efforts were unsupported by the hotel owners.
What is the point in attracting clients with a front end that isn't supported? who is going to be the next client? surely not a returning guest nor a social media user!
