“Excellent Service”
Reviewed June 9, 2010

We must compliment the hotel for its excellent service returning our belonging we left behind in our room when wechecked out. For the convenient of us picking it up, it was sent to its sister hotel, The Fort Margerita in Kuching, beautiful wrapped! Thank you Damai Beach for the excellent service and honesty. Stayed here after moving around Borneo... room very spacious and poolside, food in both restaurants were good but the price of alchol is VERY expensive both local beer and imported.. and wine !!!!! ouch... we went when it was a holiday w/end and its was very busy with locals who prefer to swm with outdoor clothing on even tho' the pool attendants try to stop them. Would have been perfect except for the influx of new locals every day - too busy- and therefore no food for breakfast the following morning - check out local holidays before booking

Deck chairs in bad shape. Lots of outsiders hanging around and walking around the lawn, no privacy at all. Used baby diapers left by the poolside-disgusting!!

Staff attitude-bad, when told about the diapers, just ignore and walk away.

Dining room OK. Lounge is dead. No guest and no staff too.

After have been around on Borneo we ending at this beutifull hotel for the last 5 dayes
before going back to Denmark. All the staff are very kindly and helpfull, and we we lucky
for booking a de luxe room with seeview at the Hilltop. There were almost our own
swimming pool with a great view over the ocean. Also from our balcony we could see
almost the hole world, a lot of birds and also a Silver Leaf monkey. Sittin there with coffee
and a brandy very nice. The food was good but not excellent. But it´s far away form a town
so you stay there at the hotel and can use all there facilities - nothing is missing.
You have a lot of possibilities from the travel desk - try the Bako National Park.
The beach is not for use - always too windy and the water was brown.
We have a nice stay and will maybe return some day.

My family (2 adults and 2 kids (ages 4 and 6)) stayed in the family suite at the Damai Beach Resort for 2 nights.

The good- beautiful setting with amazing view of Mt Santubong and out to Satang Island, big pool, good buffet breakfast, friendly front reception staff (who organised breakfast for us to take to our early flight), free putt-putt golf, huge family suite.

The bad- the family suite is very dark (dark carpet, dark furniture, dim lighting) which was depressing, especially because the location is so beautiful. No matter what temperature we chose the air-con wouldn’t move from freezing. Food and drinks were very expensive eg. a beer was 5 times what we paid in Kuching and if you want fish and chips for dinner you have to pick a fish and pay per 100g for the whole thing. The food was average and there are limited options at the resort. The food and beverage staff were sooooooooooooooo slow and they really didn’t seem to care if they were helpful or not. The pool was very heavily chlorinated which hurt the kids eyes (a sign said the pool was closed all night “for chlorination”.) The beach was closed for our whole stay.

All up, I wouldn’t stay there again as there are better options in Kuching.

The Chalets on the beach were lovely large rooms, huge beds good bathrooms, some rooms overlook the ocean and some are facing to the back.
We arrived on a night when there was a huge function about to take place right next to our room, we were moved promptly to a Junior suite which was so quite, it was easy to sleep in until 10 oclock. I think I still would have preferred the chalet.
Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us and we spent most of the time sightseeing we had hired a car but we did get one day at the hill top pool which was fantastic.
We had the pool to ourselves for nearly the whole day, we had a lift up in the bus and the pool attendant called the bus when we wanted to go back down. If we needed a drink our food it was a walk to the phone and order it.
The staff are extremely friendly and only too willing to help with anything, they have English lessons with Mrs C and by the way they speak of her ,they love her.
The food at both restaurants was extremly good , one night we had a whole fish for about $12 and another night the local fare.
Overall a great place to relax but would consider going mid week as the locals can pay to use the beach and they come of a weekend.

its a nice hotel wif great buffet breakfast. the view was fantastic even from my room (superior deluxe). i woke up every morning with the great view of the Mt Santubong & the high tides and i end the night with stars pouring all over the sky. its a gd place to relax & be away from all the city busy area.

but distance is a problem. never rent a car while in kuching, we did and we were lost for nearly 5hrs trying to find this hotel wif the little help of the map the rental co. gave us. theres too many roundabouts in kuching. so with the shuttle frm damai to city costing each person MYR $12, i tink its worth the hassle of trying to figure out the way in kuching. food is also a prob. besides the green paradise cafe nearby (10mins walk from hotel), u'll hv to eat the hotel's food if u r planning to stay in it for the whole day.
