At least 45 minutes out of town with unreliable transportation (if you need to start an excursion at 9:00 a.m.). Beach isn't great; pool area really not great. Rooms are large but feels like the bathrooms could do with a good cleaning (and upgrading). Beds and pillows are like an American road-side motel. Food is horrible. Breakfast buffet had very little to offer. Definitely rundown (management says they are upgrading it ... but a long way to go). Better to stay in town.

Room Tip: We booked the Chalets (!!!) --- more like campground cabins. For a family of four it was better valu...

Spent one night in the "Standard Balcony" room, with ethnic interior design. It has been refurbished, thus very good for the money. Only draw back was distance from the beach and the hotel reception but it was not that far.The wide balcony faces towards the sea which is only partly visible due to presence of lush coconut palms and chalets in front. But, it has a relaxing atmosphere and delightful view. After our trip to Bako Nat. Park, we checked in again, into the newer "Superior Poolside" room which also has partial view of the sea. It is spacious, clean with flat screen TV, fridge and coffee making facilities. Internet is chargeable.

Jungle trek, Mt. Santubong (climbing) and the Sarawak Cultural Village are within walking distance. There are also daily in-house activities organised by the hotel. We patronised only one restaurant (Satang Cafe) during our 3-day sojourn as we relished the Ramadhan Set Dinner (order in advance). At RM30.00 nett per person, it was great value. Buffet breakfast was good (combination of local and Western). There is a convenience shop with reasonably priced beverages and snacks. 25% discount off drinks during "happy hour" from 4 pm to 7 pm at the lounge. The staff is very polite, service-oriented and helpful.

As previously mentioned this place has seen better days:) But traveling in sea for few years now we've learned not to judge the book by its covers but by the people who make it good or bad. And people around here made it great. Since we travel with 3year old son we had to adapt to that and our backpack days are on a stand by for a while:) We have checked in Baruk suite which was really great and big enough for 4 of us ( we also travel with our friend), with great views over the South China sea. The resort really fills up with local crowd on wk ends so it gets a bit crowded. Unfortunately we had more rain than usual so we couldn’t take our boy to see orangutans in...... We did river kayaking with Borneo kayaking and it was really great. Little one enjoyed the time we spend kayaking and talked about it for few days after.
Back to the resort: ply bear in mind that the resort is about 45 min out of Kuching so you will have to drive a lot (kayaking, orangutans...) This is all even further from the city (+ another hour). Few minutes’ walk from resort is Sarawak cultural village. We went to see it on afternoon when we were stuck in resort because of the morning rain and thought it would be like some tourist trap but it turned out quite nice and we do recommend it. Also across the village is damai center with 7 eleven (no beer though ;), seafood restaurant and stalls with local Malay food (around 5 MYR for dish) where we had our dinner.
Bottom line, if you don't mind the drive to Kuching and also want some ocean (but don't get confused with e Malaysia’s islands as perhentian or redang or tioman) this is the place for some quite rest. But then again you don't come to Borneo for beaches but for its stunning nature.

Room Tip: Baruk suite is the one one you should take

I would agree with most of the less flattering comments already said about this place on this website, so I won't repeat. But overall, I would say that my family had a wonderful holiday here. We booked a chalet with two connecting rooms for my family of 5, and were right next to the beach. Perfect spot. Our ride from Kuching on a rather scary shuttle bus travelled through beautiful lush green dense vegetation, promising an exquisite location for our holiday. We were not disappointed. Everywhere coconut trees and tropical plants. I was so happy to look out of our chalet and be a stone's throw from the beach. And in the evenings there were magnificient sunsets.

My kids adored it here, there were two pools to choose from, a play area, the beach, of course - and when we'd had enough of that, plenty of trips and tours to choose from. Sarawak Cultural Village right next door is fantastic and we were lucky enough to also see a show of traditional Malay dancing.

Customers, if you are trying to decide which type of room to go for, the beach side chalets are excellent for families, the King-bed rooms are huge. But if you are wanting something a bit more exclusive, consider the HillView rooms and suites. Incredible views of the ocean from a cliff side, a prettier, quieter pool than the one in main resort, a more select poolside menu for casual snacks and some stunning acommodation.

A couple of further tips: we discovered that food and general service was very slow - so we suggest trying the small community centre next door which has a good hawker stall area and a few eateries. The Sarawak Cultural Village also offers a traditional Malaysian dinner served in bamboo sticks and banana leaves in their restaurant. Open at lunchtimes only.

Internet connection is very slow, but that is a problem for the whole of East Malaysia and should not be blamed on the hotel. In room internet connection is not offered, but you can purchase Wifi cards from reception, something that is not advertised but I found out by asking.

Finally, if you are trying to book via internet and discover that your desired room type is not available, it is really worth ringing the resort and asking. I found the chalets I wanted were not available when I tried to book on internet, but when I phoned I was told that they were. Okay, this meant we didn't get the internet offer prices but the hotel prices are very reasonable so we didn't mind.

I know several reviews have indicated that the resort needs refurbishment but I suggest you go to this place with an open mind and accept that East Malaysia has some catching up to do to be on par with international hotel standards. Just go to enjoy the experience of being in environs of a jungle and Sarawak has so much to offer with its national parks and wildlife.

Room Tip: Choose a beach side chalet if you are with a family. There are connecting rooms if you have kids and...

We originally booked a room in one of the chalets, however we were pretty disappointed there were no terrace or balcony and the air condition was very noisy. We asked the reception for options and were shown an executive suite. It was big and had a big terrace facing the sea, just what we wanted. The room was a bit worn and the carpet had seen better days, but all in all OK.
The included breakfast buffet was good and the rest of the food we got in the restaurant was also OK and the service from the staff in the restaurant was very good.
The surroundings and landscape is magnificent, with the lovely sea and the mountains in the back.
During weekends the resort gets very busy as a lot of locals visits, we stayed for a week but would probably only have chosen 5 days if we were to go again.
Upon checkout we were charged for having two extra beds rolled in, we were never informed about this, so the manager Christina decided to remove this cost from our bill.

-MINUS-
-the room carpet is POOR, i think this is an old resort

Stayed here for the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2012 for 3 Nights. best place to stay for this event as it's just a 2 minute walk to the Sarawak Cultural Village, venue of the RWMF.

booked into a Beach Chalet inclusive of daily breakfast & dinner.

room is spacious but furniture & fittings abit dated. bathroom very old school. wish they would do up the rooms.

service much to be desired... took them more than an hour to deliver room service!!! service at the restaurant was poor and slow... staff not attentive. food came out slow - main course would come before the starter! breakfast buffet was ok but dinner was NOT exciting at all - i was expecting more for the rate i was paying.

a great place by the beach, it is a pity the owners have not paid much attention to it. in really does need a refurbishment.

i would go back there only because it is the closest place to the venue of the RWMF..

Room Tip: Beach Chalet is best as it's just steps away from the beach.
