“A great day trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

This is an enjoyable day trip through the countryside to the Centre which has an entry building explaining much about the inhabitants followed by paths to various displays and animals . We were particularly impressed by the animals and creatures who were only enclosed by barriers rather than in cages . See if you can find the freshwater crocodiles aside from the saltwater ones and how can you tell the difference?

“A great effort at releasing animals back into the wild.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

It was a very sad thing to see the animals in the cages, but when you visit the Vistor Centre you see the great efforts the staff here are going towards in hope of releasing some of Orangutans back into the wild. Make sure you visit the Information centre before looking at the animals, it makes it all seem worthwhile.....

“Helping animals not showing them off”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

I am sad to see bad reviews about Matang. It is not a fancy zoo for people to stare at poor animals in cages. Its a rehabilitation centre trying to get rescused animals back into the wild. I volunteered there for a month and it was best experience in my life. Try and forget the glamour of tacky zoos with their mercahndise and gimmicks and instead support somewhere real trying to help animals.

“Sad place good effort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

This is not a happy place. Like so many of this projects this is chronically underfunded. The people running it and volunteering doing a great job. The rescued animals in Matang are in cages often smaller then in most western zoos but this is much better than the places they came from. The people at matang try there best to release the animals back into the wild but sometimes this is just not possible for different reasons.

“Matang Wildlife Centre, Kuching”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

Compare to the Semmengong Wilfe life centre. This is actually a rehabiliation(zoo) where animals and birds are placed here either to recover or to prevent fights(common among Orang Utan). Come ihere if you want a guarantee chance of watching an orang utan although be prepared they will be caged.
