“Simple but informative”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I am not particularly interested in Textiles, but this museum is free and offers a quick respite for the heat so I decided to stop by. I did not spend a lot of time here, but the museum has several examples of different textiles on display, as well as information on the history behind these textiles and how they are created. The displays are pretty simple, but I think it is worth a visit as you do not need to spend a lot of time here.

“Great historical view through threads”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

The Textile Museum, like most museums in Kuching is free and is spread over two floors.
It presents a "potted history" of Sarawak through the various textiles, their production and their use. The documentation (in both Malay and English) accompanying the exhibits is well worth the time reading. Stories relating to particularly the marriage ceremonies give life to the materials and photos.
A very pleasant way to spend an hour in a very interesting section of the Kuching city.

The costumes and weavings were fantastic. Highly recommended for anyone interested in textiles. Good gift shop too, but bargain!

“Combine this with Sarawak Museum trip”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

The textile museum is not as boring as it may seem from its moniker. Do give it a visit if you are around the area, we combined this with a trip to Sarawak museum nearby. in the textile museum you will find exhibits on clothing (what else) and the various materials used (even bark!) and there is a section on the wedding clothes of the various ethnic groups on the top floor. Needs some stair climbing to the upper levels so be advised accordingly.

“History of Kuching Textile”
Reviewed March 18, 2013 via mobile

Tucked next to the new Merdeka Mall is the Textile Museum. The three storey building houses exhibits on the history of traditional textiles in Kuching from bark garments worn by the natives, to Nonya outfits and Malay and Chinese outfits. Not a bad place to visit if you have some time to spare.
