We had a fantastic day with Mary. She took us to a local market and explained the various local produce - we also tried some. We then went to a Baruk (a skull house) and then for a 90 min walk through the jungle. Peter, our guide, showed us local plants and we tried some of the edible ones. We then looked at another village before heading off for a late lunch. This lunch was, frankly, incredible. Mary's sister-in-law cooked us a number of dishes incorporating local ingredients and all of them were delicious. We also tried local arak - which tasted like a cross between sherry and brandy. After this we went to the fairy caves - which are remarkable.

Overall this was a brilliant tour as we got to do lots of different things and Mary gave us loads of interesting information about the area and local people. I can't recommend this tour highly enough.

The food is something else isn't it? I think I mentioned in another response that keeping the weight off when there is so much delicious food around is a challenge! Thanks for joining us and for the review

James and Mary provided an excellent full day tour and were great company. The Tringgus Trail tour which was probably the best value and longest day trip I've experienced included an informative trip to the market, visit to a Bidayuh village with traditional buildings, a hike through the jungle, off road ride through jungle and palm oil plantation, traditional lunch at Mary's sister in laws which was delicious, afternoon trip to fairy cave with informative commentary by James and the chance to spot a few of the local inhabitants (bats and frogs) and a visit to another traditional village where the locals provided cold beer. The day finished off with a visit to an old flooded gold mine and more cold beer. We then took up the night jungle walk which I will review separately but which was equally as good. This trip is highly recommended for anyone looking for something a bit different from the normal commercialised tours and James and Mary's passion for the environment is really catching.

You are absolutely right - its a passion! The frog was probably Rana Hosii whose skin secretions are so poisonous that they can kill other frogs. Thanks for joining us and for the review. (Incidentally, your NightWalk review hasn't appeared yet Phil)

We had an excellent day with James from Kuching Offroad exploring some of the unseen sights of Sarawak on the Bau History Trail.

This is a perfect trip for those who "don't do" organised trips. James's easy style and encyclopaedic knowledge made for a pleasurable and interesting day. Packed with different aspects of the Bau life, we got to see some of the real life of the villages in a way a bigger group could not. A nice mix of culture and adventure with the Bidayuh style lunch a highlight both in terms of the food and to experience something of real life rather than an impersonal restaurant.

A fantastic day for all the family provided you can climb the cave steps and are willing to engage in the adventure. Top marks for a trip that captures the essence of this beautiful area.

Many thanks - a great review. The focus with all our products is 'today' with a glimpse into the past rather than trying to recreate history. 'Now' in Sarawak is full of interest. Our home cooked food is becoming a highlight of our activities in the Bau area; Keeping the weight off when flavours such as you tasted are just up the road is a real challenge. I'm very glad that you enjoyed the day.

We had an excellent day with James and Mary from Kuching Offroad.

Tringgus Trail took us to Sarawak's countryside, small villages with a visit to a Baruk (skull house), a local market, a short trek through forest and a visit to Fairy cave. James is very much into caving and he gave a great insight to otherwise touristy cave. We had a fine home cooked lunch at Mary's sister's place and after the cave a well deserved cold beer by an artificial lake.

Thoroughly recommended.

The geology intrigued me from the first time I saw it so I researched the processes involved little knowing that a few years later I would have the opportunity of sharing the information with our guests! I'm glad that you appreciated it and that you enjoyed the day. Thanks for the review!

Very many thanks. I'm glad that you enjoyed the day. Sarawak has many wonderful places to see off the beaten track. I have had a great time finding them. And I'm having as much fun sharing them!
