“Tasty food”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

Tasty food, reasonable prices, clean, good service.
I thought that the poppadoms that were delivered to the table without being asked for were complimentary until they appeared on the bill - only a small charge but would prefer to be asked whether we wanted them

Dear Nancybe,

Thank you for patronising our restaurant and enjoying our tasty food, good service including the poppadoms. We Sarawakians adore the people from our neighbouring country, Australia. We have visitors on a daily basis to our restaurant for the past 20 years and enjoyed our hospitality, good food and good service including poppadoms. Nobody ever made any adverse comments on poppadoms enjoyed by Australian. We are at loss to understand that you taking on us for a few cents on a technical ground that neither you didn't order nor we did not ask the permission before this titbit was given to you.

As all Australian knows that it is an Asian style of hospitality of giving a condiment (Indian restaurants, Poppadom; Chinese restaurants peanuts and pickle cucumber and cabbage and Dayak & Malay restaurants, 'ulam') to enjoy while waiting for the main dish to arrive. These things one can normally enjoy by having a beer or other soft drinks.

All our food are prepared and cooked upon your order and as such there would normally be a waiting time of 10-20 minutes depending on what you order and the crowd preceding to your arrival. And as such, the poppadoms is a convenient way of passing your time and enjoy your dining experience. If it is an expensive item, certainly we would not serve you without being ordered. A poppadom costs 50 cent Malaysian equal to 15 Australian cents and as such we assumed that you can afford it when you are visiting another country. If you found that the item was obnoxious to your taste, you should have refused when it was delivered to your table.

I hope you would visit us again with an open mind and enjoy our hospitality including poppadoms. Maybe we will consider giving you complimentary poppadoms :)

Thank you. Cheers!

“Great value and food”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

I have travelled all over and I can state this restaurant is one that you should visit if you are in the area. The food was ten out of ten. The service was the same and the atmosphere was good.

Thanks to the staff for a great experience.

Regards Jenny and Phil

“Great food”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

A great place and the foods were very nice. During my visit in 2013, I saw a Halal logo on the menu, however, I didnt see any Halal certificate by JAKIM/ JAIS at the restaurant. To attract more muslim (for them to feel confidence) customers visiting to your place, it would be great if you display the Halal certification at the cashier or on the wall as well as on the restaurant's door. Thanks.

“Very flexible and delicious”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

We'd heard that this restaurant could cater for those with dietary restrictions, so it sounded perfect for my wife who is unable to eat gluten or dairy.

The waiter understood her request, and suggested some meals. We already had some in mind, so we asked him to check those. Unfortunately all the tandoori food is marinated in yoghurt so we were unable to eat that, but we ended up with a brinjal prawn curry and chicken spinach curry with peas pulao. The chef also made the meals with minimal butter/ghee as per request. It was the tastiest indian food we've had in a long time!

“Great place”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Although it seemed the waiter was working on commission. Kept pushing us to order the 'special' menu - there was far too much food on it. There is a massive choice on the main menu and food is cooked to your spice requirement. We ordered 2 main chicken dishes, a portion of rice and a garlic naan. The waiter said it wouldn't be enough for 2 people, but it was. Great food, friendly owners. The only downside was our waiter - too pushy!

Dear Foodslut2013,

No sir/madam. Definitely he was doing his job the best way he can. He was not after commission but performing his job to be useful employee to our restaurant.

He is new in the job and we shall guide him to be more acceptable to the guests in the future. We thank you for patronising our restaurant and hope to see you again when you visit our enchanting city, Kuching when you can experience not so pushy waiter.

Happy New Year in advance!
