Marco Polo's excellent reviews are definitely well-deserved.

Our room and the facilities were impeccably clean, and I think that there are more than enough toilets/shower stalls for the guests. We were free to use the kitchen, the fridge and the utensils as we please. Breakfast was self-serve (toast, jam, sweet breads, local fruits, hot beverage). You can purchase soft drinks and bottled water in the reception area for a reasonable price, but they also offer complimentary filtered water in the kitchen as well as hot water.

Check-in was a breeze, just make sure to notify the staff about your arrival time at the hostel. Samuel and his darling wife really go far and beyond to ensure that your vacation in Kuching is as pleasant and as stress-free as possible. They offered us a detailed pamphlet about the various places of interest that we wanted to visit such as Bako National Park & Semenggoh Nature Reserve, containing info on transportation options, costs and schedules.

The bus stops were close to Marco Polo and the terminal (10-15 minutes drive) was also easy to get to because of the white mini-vans that pick you up at the Gate close to Marco Polo for 1 ringgit (or something ridiculously cheap like that) that stop at the terminal. We have taken public transport with ease, but we have also used the taxi services of Harold for airport transfer and a full-day tour. He's very friendly, speaks English well and charges reasonable prices. We highly recommend him, so ask Samuel to book him for you if his schedule allows it.

The hostel is also very close to numerous restaurants, cheap eateries and fruit stands. Laundry services are also offered for a very reasonable price. Salamat Ate G. for doing our laundry!

Overall, it was a wonderful experience, especially for two-first timers in a hostel. Thanks Marco Polo!

Room Tip: If budget allows you, take a room with the AC!

We chose this place based on the excellent reviews and were pleased it lived up to its reputation. It is located a 15 minute drive from the airport on a road with lots of cheap eateries. We ate at Top Spot one night which was en rote to the river. It is not far to the waterfront (10mins) and about a 20 min stroll to the bus station although we were told there was a shuttle outside that went straight to the bus, which would be good if you had heavy bags. The staff were all very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The lady who did all the washing was great and so efficient (10RM/load). You can print things from their computer (2RM/pg). The breakfast was just right and differed each day. The whole place is kept very clean and has a relaxed atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for a 'party' style hostel but we thought they got the balance of this place just right. If we ever go back to Kuching we would definitely stay here. Incredible value for money - we think the best we found in Borneo.

STAY HERE!!!

Sam and Jen, the owners are lovely and always good conversation. We learnt many things about the city, the culture and cuisine from them!

It's in a really good location, only 20 minutes walk to the centre and there's loads of cheap places to eat nearby.

The breakfast is cooked up fresh daily! There's plenty of choice too; from toast to Malaysian style pancakes and fruits!

The balcony is very social and was amazing to watch the thunderstorms from!

Everyone there made our stay a pleasure and we were genuinely quite sad to leave. I felt like I was saying goodbye to family... thank the stars for facebook!

I took an evening flight to Kuching and arrived past midnight. Someone was still able to assist with my late check-in and immediately showed me my bed. I spent three nights for the Rainforest World Music Festival and I've already expected that it'll be packed. The dorm room was pretty decent for it's price and I shared it with 7 other travelers. The room lacked outlets and I have to check from time to time whether it's available for use or not. I sometimes charge my phone and power bank in the dining or common area. There were enough bathrooms shared by all guests and I never had issues waiting for my turn to take a shower. The owner and his wife, Jen were both accommodating and helpful in terms of giving me tips on how to get around the city. The breakfast which was served from 7-10am consisted of fruits, local Malay delicacies and lemon tea. The guy at the front desk told me that he can arrange an airport transfer for only 26RM. I used a mobile app and booked my own cab which cost me more than what I'm supposed to. There was a restaurant that's open 24 hours across the street which served kolo mee and laksa (both famous in Kuching). I'll definitely recommend this guesthouse to friends and workmates who are traveling to the Cat City.

Room Tip: If you're planning to book a bed in a dorm room, choose the lower deck and avoid the one facing...

We spent twice three nights at Marco Polo's Guest House and we loved it. Located 20 minutes by feet from downtown in a really nice neighborhood (new Chinatown), the guesthouse is really cute: a nice balcony (full of plants) with kitchen, one big common room, very clean (hot) showers and toilets, very quiet bedrooms with comfortable bed (dorm or private). WiFi, laundry, drinks, kitchen and even a computer are available.

Sam, Jane and Druv will do all what they can to make your stay comfortable and interesting. Very helpful, they can also arrange you taxi, tours, or just give you tips about things to see in or around Kuching (or invite you to go for some beers ;-)) and we had many interesting discussions with them. They make you feel being part of their family.

For everyone looking for a clean, affordable, welcoming guesthouse with great owners and many other independent world travellers to hook up with, we recommend highly this guesthouse!

Nice and clean. Prices were decent. Booked through Agoda.com. Sam, the owner, and his wife were very pleasant. A bit of a walk, I think, from all the main attraction in town, but take that as a good thing. You get to see and hang out with the locals. Lots of places for food around the area. Try the pork leg rice for lunch in the corner coffee shop. Marco Polo's Travellers offers breakfast for you in the morning. However, if you want to be adventurous, try kolomin and Chinese pork bun in any of the coffee shops in the neighborhood. Good luck!.

It's no wonder they are highly rated. The place is clean and well maintained, rooms are clean and beds are comfy. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. They also provide delicious free breakfast everyday, so it's well worth the money to stay here.

I'll definitely come back whenever I'm in Kuching again, haven't seen everything it has to offer yet.
