Our time at the Batik Boutique hotel was a highlight of our travel through Borneo. The cozy atmosphere, the clean rooms with their special bathrooms and a nice chill out area made it easy to relax after a busy day. Jo-Lynn, as well as the whole team were very attentive and always there for a friendly chat and good travel recommendations. We recommend this place to anyone who plans to travel to Borneo, as it is a cut above any of the hotels in terms of style and friendliness.

Such a quirky, funky and charming hotel. Loved the design of the rooms - and they are spacious. You get an iPod dock, very nice tea and coffee selection, and the laundry service was the fastest I ever had!

The staff were very warm and friendly - and as other reviewers have said - it's like staying with your own friends and family. I felt so at home here and the staff did so much for me in terms of organising trips and recommending places to see.

The location is perfect - two minutes to the beautiful river and the old town, and just a few steps from the more modern streets.

I was very impressed by the food, and the breakfast (which is included) is great - there's a good choice of very different dishes. Dinner is cheap as chips and the menu items are really tasty and unusual - plus the chef is happy to tailor a meal to your tastes.

If you want to use a pool you can walk five mins to the Hilton and pay a small fee to swim there for the day.

I loved Batik Boutique - the only complaint is that I had to leave!

This was our third visit to Kuching and our third stay at the Batik Boutique Hotel. I have no idea whether this is a 5-star or a 3-star hotel - but it doesn't matter, because you'll feel 6-star. Where to start? The hotel is conveniently located in Kuching. The hotel is small - I would guess less than 25 rooms, and this means that every guest gets 6-star attention from the staff, most notably from the current manager, Jo Lynn. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and they have all the mod cons - free WiFi (hard to believe that some hotels still charge for this), coffee-maker, TV, iron, hair dryer, great shower, and A/C. Our room was 301, and even though it looked out on the main street (a large window bringing lots of light into the room) it was very quiet. Breakfasts are terrific, and there is a happy hour every day. The staff are very knowledgable about the local scene (restaurants, sight seeing) as well as about Sarawak overall. And their rates are very reasonable.

Room Tip: Rooms are variable - talk or email the staff about what you'd like

This B&B is spot on. It's really quirky, the staff are young, very helpful and friendly (esp. Jo Din - apologies for spelling). We had room 303 - Green with a white 4 poster framed bed. The room was very quiet (not overlooking the street), the bed and bedding was really comfortable - overall a great room! Impressed that you get free water bottles every day in your room and free coke (a cola!) although not sure if replenished every day as we didn't drink them. The breakfast omelette (spinach & mushroom) was very tasty!
We got a taxi voucher from the airport to the B&B which costs 26RM. On the way back to the airport the B&B kindly ordered us a taxi but it never came. We flagged a red and yellow taxi down and they again charged us 26RM. Just made our plane - not b&b's fault.
We went to the Cultural Village and Wetlands Tour arranged by Batik. Both trips are worth doing. Batik quoted 180RM for the Wetlands yet when we paid Permai (the resort that the tour is through) it only cost 150 (perhaps the 30 dif is a commission to Batik? Not sure to be honest but it was a nice surprise. Both trips are worth doing but I have left separate reviews for them.
Definitely recommend staying here, For a 4 star I think this is a great little B&B!!

Not a six-star hotel and not brand new, but so what? It's a little off centre, the staff do a lot more than the cursory "good morning" / "good evening", and it looks / feels clean enough. It's also walking distance to the waterfront, a couple of malls, a handful of bars / local eateries. Overall quite good given what you see of the other properties in the area!

Batik Boutique is a great hotel in central Kuching, just 5 minutes from the Waterfront and Main Bazaar. Our room was lovely, bed was sooo comfy and despite being on a relatively busy road we weren't kept up by traffic noise. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom had an amazing tub with lovely comp bath salts.

Breakfast was just ok, we had pancakes one day which were the most awful ones i've tasted, possibly made with powdered milk. The menu said that we'd get a fruit plate with our breakfast but this wasn't forthcoming. When we asked for it we got a banana cut in 4 pieces. There seemed to be different people making breakfast on different days, so i don't know if we had bad luck and got a guy that didn't usually do the job. I didn't try the more authentic dishes (laksa and a variety of other prawn dishes) as I'm allergic to shellfish, so maybe these were better.

Other than that the hotel is great though, and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Would recommend, but maybe go elsewhere for your breakfast.

You're less than 5 mins from The waterfront, they welcome you with a local rice wine and a variety of a local cake. Lovely clean rooms, spacious, posh (boutique) coffee and tea faculties, yummy breakfast and complimentary water, and 2 complimentary soft drinks with iPod decks in all rooms.
