“A piece of our home in Kuching!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

We booked the hotel online because of the modern but warm fewing pictures. The room was great and clean. We got everything we needed. The staff was more than helpful. We liked the sporty way of dressing them. Most of the time the staff in the hotels are overdressed but most of the time less friendly and less informed as the great batik stuff! The meals are very good, they try new things, have traditional food and also a choice of western style if anyone wants to have.
We felt so much at home for a few days! We come again for sure when we come back to Kuching.

Room Tip: In the head of Kuching, great staff and food!!!

We spend a delightful 4 days at this hotel in the heart of Kuching, and couldn't have had a better time. This tiny boutique hotel (15 rooms) is well-placed near the riverfront and restaurants. The rooms are very comfortable and individually designed - slightly quirky but very pleasant. But it is the staff that make this hotel so special. Without intruding they manage to individualize your holiday experience in Kuching, and are knowledgable of the city and region. Especially Jo-Lynn. Rather than take a tip they would prefer a donation to one of the many charities they support, e.g. improving education for children in rural areas. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the fantastic weaving collective they support, Toniti Crafts (www.toniticrafts.com), which is also owned by Jackie Tong, the hotel owner. All in all, staying at the Batik Boutique Hotel is like staying in a house with friends. We recommend it highly.

We had a wonderful 3 day weekend stay at the Batik Boutique hotel and staff looked after us like we were regulars especially Alfred and the house keeping lady. Alfred made sure that someone was at the airport to pick us up as well as drop us back at the end of our stay. We went for a green city facing room which was bright and modern especially with the stone bath..

The hotel is located around the corner of Top Spot which is the must visit seafood hawker centre and a few minutes’ walk from the riverside. Another recommended place to visit is the Malay village on the other side of the river which has good local cuisine such as the famous Kuching laksa as well as kek lapis (go to the Dayang salhah shop which is apparently the best).

The hotel was able to arrange tours such as kayaking in the rainforest, orang-utan spotting as well as advice on getting to the Bako national park which we lucky to have time to do them all.
All in all Batik Boutique made our stay in Kuching a very pleasant and memorial one and definitely plan to stay there next time we visit.

Really liked this hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and spacious with a few nice touches like local coffee and English breakfast tea. Breakfast was decent. Good location for exploring the local area. Offered to look after some of our bags when they found out we were going on to the KuraKura Homestay afterwards.

I visited to cover the recent Malaysian elections. When I entered, they served me a welcome drink, the most wonderful tuak (rice wine) I've ever had, similar to a fine sake. And kept topping it up till I said stop. That was the beginning of 5 days of warm, lovely Borneo hospitality. Everything else--room, decor, Wifi, food--is what you'd expect of a good boutique hotel. But the people are whom I'd go back for.

Great central location. Loved the big egg shaped bath, and the lovely smellies to go in it! The staff are attentive, kind, professional, and great fun. Very good breakfast, with local options. Great cocktails in the small bar. Even an invitation to go hiking in the jungle with the staff!

It was a wonderful stay definitely thruout our holiday. Actually it began quite early as through the weeks prior to our departure. She planned on the suggested places of interests there and asked for the recommended transport company to bring us for tour and shopping throughout our stay in Sarawak. She not only gave a list of places to go and what to do but she also went all out to do the transportation booking for us and gave us a summarise total for the cost of each trip (transport, entrance fees)! That definitely put my wife at ease! also helped to order a cake as a surprise for my birthday...that came indeed as a surprise! a wonderful guy who helped us to check in, arrange the surprise birthday cake, provide the videos for us so indeed a great guy. Not only that, the rest of the staff especially Aunty Mas also left a deep impression on us. Thank you Team Batik Boutique Hotel for your warmth hospitality towards us. Will definitely come back!!
