Spent 3 nights in Kuching at this hotel, stylish, quirky and with excellent friendly staff who went out of their way to help, book tours and drive us out to the airport at no cost.
Only downside was minor and it was breakfast. It was adequate and unispiring but not bad, perhaps skip it one morning and go to one of the nearby local eateries and have Laksa as many of the locals do.
The restaurant - a japanese one, was excellent too.
funky rooms with i-pod docks, flat screen and TV free wireless to boot! Excellent!

We had a lovely stay at the "classy, chic, cosy" Batik Boutique Hotel, Kuching recently and was utterly impressed with the spacious rooms and thoughtful amenities provided. The Batik Crew were obliging and friendly and even provided an extra bed with their compliments.
Local owner Jackie and her mum converted the three-storey shophouse into a stylish boutique hotel which caters to a diverse range of travellers including the lone business traveller to those with families. Well-travelled, Jackie adorns her hotel with lampshades from Turkey and the hotel is tastefully-decorated. We'll certainly be back again!

Recently spent three non-consecutive nights at the Batik Boutique hotel. Although Trip Advisor lists the hotel as a bed and breakfast, it really has more hotel characteristics than an B&B - full service restaurant, bar, laundry, etc. Rooms are very spacious and attractively furnished with big bathrooms, 40 inch flat screen tvs, many balconies, and good ac. What really shines at this hotel is the staff - nothing is beyond their call of duty. We received superb restaurant recommendations from Raj who even drove us to the restaurant one night gratis. When we left for the airport to go to Mulu on Malaysia day, taxis were scarce so the manager drove us to the airport - again gratis. When we visited Baku island, the hotel had a licensed guide they liked to use and he was wonderful - made our trip and kept us laughing most of the time. Of course, the guide also made sure we saw everything - including a probiscus monkey lazily chowing down on some fresh leaves about 15 yards away from us. It would appear that the word is out on the hotel (completely booked on our return) so be sure and make your reservations early. This is a real winner in Kuching and very well located to the riverfront. I can't recommend the hotel enough.

Room Tip: Smokers will need to book a balcony room - they overlook the great outdoor part of the bar.

A great change from the normal run of the mill hotel. Kinda funky, kinda groovy. though breakfast was included we missed it as we were already out the door on our way to Semmengoh to see the Orangs. We only stayed 1 night and we had a front room which was a bit noisy due to boy racers blasting along the deserted streets late at night. I liked the funky bathroom, the iPod dock and the fact you could plug your camera or computer into the TV directly.

The staff were very nice and I hope the business does well.

We booked via Agoda which was about 60% cheaper than going directly through their website which I don't understand but we came out winners so we were happy.\

This place doesn't have quite the polish that its website seeks to portray but it more than makes up for it in heart - there can be few hotels anywhere in the world with a more eager and dedicated staff.

The excellent first impression was created by the reservation process - far from the usual, cut-and-paste, canned emails we received personalized messages and were placed in what was clearly the most appropriate accommodation for our family.

The good vibes continued when we were picked up at Kuching airport - a complementary service that I thought was pretty remarkable considering that we were only staying for one night. The (extremely competent and confidence-inspiring driver was a retired civil servant who opted for early retirement and now works on the hotel staff - she has family connections going back to the White Rajahs' administration of Sarawak and gave us a great introduction to the region.

The rooms were extremely comfortable - there are different color schemes but the batik motif prevails throughout, on the walls, mosaic floors and so on. My photos didn't do it justice but I have included the sitting nook in the girls' room. In keeping with, it seems, most Malaysian hotels the BBH doesn't offer family rooms but they were able to give us adjoining, intercommunicating rooms.

We arrived early in the afternoon so ate in the in-house restaurant, Salmon Tarot. This was the bum note - it is ostensibly a Japanese restaurant but they couldn't serve sushi because the sushi chef hadn't come in; we tried to make a meal of appetizers, which wasn't quite sufficient but when we tried to order more they refused us, saying that they were cleaning the kitchen. Unsurprising, then, that at lunchtime we were the only customers in the place and that when we returned to the hotel at 9:30 that evening the restaurant was deserted. Breakfast here was a disappointed, too - although the bill of fare offered fruits and juices, none were available.

Back to the plus side, the lobby bar is bright and friendly and the outdoor patio has a very inviting hot tub. The complimentary toiletries were great and the rooms extremely clean. In retrospect we would have done much better to spend the rest of our time in Sarawak here, and make day trips.

The attentiveness of the staff continued on the day we left - we weren't being picked up until 5 and they insisted that we keep one of the rooms past check-out time so that we would have somewhere to hang out and were most solicitous to know if they could help when our ride didn't arrive on time.

The attention to detail continued after we got home, when we received an email addressed to all of us by name thanking us for our visit.

The restaurant experience keeps it short of being an Excellent though even here I should say that the hotel is centrally-located and within a short walk of plenty of other places to eat.

I would not hesitate to go back if I found myself in Kuching again - the whole Batik Crew is educated, willing and committed to making your stay a success, and it shows.
