The Kebun is everything that the website promises and more. The bungalows are far above the standard of other accomodation that we looked at in Sarawak, being characterful and tastefully furnished with all mod cons such as air conditioning, good showers and a television and DVD player. The bungalows are also of a good size; we stayed in Olivia's bungalow and enjoyed two verandas at the front and back, a decent sized living room with two sofas, a fully fitted kitchen and two large bedrooms. An unexpected bonus was utterly delicious food cooked fresh for us every night and delivered to the bungalow, delicious packed lunches provided each day, fresh bread every day, lifts to the start of the various walks that we did, and lifts to and from Kuching airport. The owners did absolutely everything they could to make our stay as pleasant as possible; we were very well looked after indeed - this wasn't the sort of place to just hand you the key and take your money. The only slight downside for us was that, as keen walkers and having just got engaged, my fiancee and I were hoping to walk on trails in the nearby Kubah national park on our own and enjoy a romantic time together in the rainforest, but a guide was provided for us each day who walked at about half our usual speed, which was a little frustrating. I don't want to sign off on a negative note though, because our stay at The Kebun was very memorable and probably the highlight of our two week tour around Malaysia. Highly recommended.

Hello RobM77,

Thank you very much for your review. We would like to take this opportunity to apologize if the guide provided for you walked at a pace that was not to the speed you would have wanted. Presently we have begun to make sure that each and every guest who is provided with a guide is asked consistently if the walking pace is to their desired speed.

Further we are pleased that you found everything else to your liking and that your experience with us was pleasant enough.

Again we Thank You for highlighting this issue of the pace set by the guide provided as this will help us ensure that future experience will be better catered too.

Sincerely, from all of us at The Kebun

After spending a long weekend here with our two young kids in November, I really wanted to bring my 82 year (but fit!) mother to experience Borneo. I didn't hesitate to go back to the Kebun as I know Adrian and Olivia do their best to make sure their guests have a memorable trip. As with our first visit, they planned all our outings and brought us to new locations that we missed previously - all with kids/grandmothers in mind, which is not an easy task! We were able to visit the fairy caves, Bako national park with a very fun guide, shop at the border market, and best of all, Adrian planned a traditional longhouse blessing by local tribespeople at The Kebun for us and the other delightful guest. It truly was a unique experience that makes you appreciate even more the local culture. Every meal at the Kebun included a wide variety to suit everyone's tastes (and delicious!) - Olivia even packed us a lunch for our touring one day because she knew our kids loved her food! Also, our guide, James, was great at providing insight to Borneo living/travel. We left feeling like there's even more to experience in this area and I expect we'll be back to escape the city life and lounge on our patio in the evening listening to the jungle/farm sounds.

Hello cpmsmm,

Thank you for taking the time in giving your review and for uploading the photographs. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed everything we had planned for you.

You are right, your mother is very fit for her age. Her enthusiasm and stamina would put many much younger people to shame. It was a real pleasure having her and giving us the opportunity to meet her.

Till we meet again,

Sincerely,

Adrian Cornelius

We stayed in Adrian's Bungalow for 4 nights. The bungalow provides a superb level of privacy, and is located in a quiet corner of the farm near the river bank. The accommodation is (as described in other reviews) rustic. Don't expect resort-style luxury, but expect a large bungalow decorated with antiques which gives it a real 'colonial' feel.

While the bungalow is something unique, the service provided by Adrian and Olivia is even more unique. Adrian seems to know everything and everyone, and we were personally driven around to whatever place or activity we fancied (getting bored is impossible).

If you are in for a unique experience that will forever cure you of wanting to stay at large tourist resorts, this is the place to go!

This has been a stay we will never forget....

Hello WeEnj0yTravelling,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We appreciate it very much as with the photo you added. It was a pleasure to be able to put some time aside for you in making the daily adventures.

We are also happy to note that you were happy with the large Bungalow and have implemented the suggestion you had made, an excellent one by the way.

We look forward to the possibility of hosting you and your family again one day.

Sincerely,

Adrian's Bungalow is one of my favorite memories of Sarawak. I had an excellent two-night stay. Adrian's family and staff's hospitality is incredible. Over just two days I kayaked on the river (right behind the Bungalow), visited a local Malaysian Chinese town, went to an island and took a motorboat ride on the river, biked in the vicinities of the Kebun, and visited Kubah national park, which had a tucked away waterfall that also served as a natural swimming pool.

The facilities are rustic but comfortable. Be prepared for insects attacking your food in the open-air dining area at night, and the occasional screeches of the ducks on the property; but that's a part of the charm. You will have everything you need, and all the folks at the Kebun are extremely accommodating. Adrian is also quite a hilarious host, watch out for his funny stories and sense of humor.

A tip for the readers- go out there with a sense of what you want to do. You'll have a pretty wide range of options, so it might be worth it to do some research beforehand.

We stayed recently at the Kebun with our 8, 5, and 3yrs old children and fit, 75 yr old father. Adrian and Olivia were charming, wonderful hosts and took us on lots of exciting trips. Adrian always had lots of suggestions for things to do. We loved the 3 National Parks we visited, seeing the orangutans, the crocodile farm and the weaving exhibition in Kuching. Our highlight was the trip down the river to the deserted beach at the river mouth. Our children are willing to try most types of food and we all thought Olivia's food was really delicious. The kids loved wondering around the farm looking at the animals and exploring the Iban longhouse. The accommodation is comfortable and characterful. The rooms had mosquito screens on the internal doors. The bathrooms function well but may be a little basic for some; nothing that a lick of fresh paint wouldn't deal with. All the family loved the holiday and felt it was one of the most memorable, fun trips in a long time. My kids cried when it was time to leave!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Kebun. We spent three nights in Adrian’s Bungalow where we were treated to all the comforts of home, including some wonderful extras like the fresh baked bread each day, in a beautiful, verdant setting. The hosts were extraordinarily gracious and generous, going to great lengths to accommodate our interests such as making arrangements with a ranger at nearby Kubah National Park for a night walk through the frog pond. If you are looking for a unique place and experience, head to The Kebun.
